Frontiers I think. But did lots of research ages ago.
IMPC spreads via grouped clusters into lymphatics—not as individual cells through the blood as the clusters are usually too big for blood vessels. Having multiple nodes involved doesn’t automatically mean IMPC has spread throughout the body. But it is aggressive in the lymph, that is why it shows up in nodes more quickly and recurs regionally quickly. For the same stage and grade and lymph node involvement it seems in many reports to be a similar if not better overall survival than idc. Who knows.
Oncologists havent got time or the interest to research something that is only 2% of cases. Mine knows nothing other than ‘we treat it the same’.
I look for positives and hold on to that.
Exercise is the best thing you can do for yourself. That and not drinking or smoking.
My radiologist who had been doing breasts for 25 years said it was difficult to spot due to its form. So inexperienced radiologists may have never seen impc before. Same goes for the pathologists. Mine hadn’t ever seen it.
Hi bell05,
So far treatment is going quite well. I had my 2nd chemo of 8 on Tuesday. I prefer to say I’m 1/4 of the way. It sounds more positive. So far, I’ve been lucky and not had much in the way of side effects other than the hair loss starting now. Hubby will give me a short buzz cut this weekend. I have a nice selection of hats and scarves.
I’m staying positive and have been feeling well enough to do some light workouts and catch up on things around the house now that I’m not working.
Congratulations on your clear mammogram! May we all continue to heal and thrive!!
Interesting what your radiologist said. I assumed mine was difficult to see due to my dense breast tissue as both that and the cancer show white on mammograms. The pre-surgery ultrasound my surgeon ordered said that I had non enlarged nodes with cortical thickening that looked suspicious due to the cancer diagnosis. I saw the report on a medical app but she didn’t mention it to me when we met before surgery. Perhaps she didn’t want to stress me without confirmation as they weren’t biopsied?
