Newly diagnosed movers

Hi girls,
I know there are quite a few of us on “newly diagnosed” that have just got our dates/started chemo so thought we could start to chat on here, might be quiet for a couple of weeks while the rest of us catch up but at least we will have the same names etc.

Hope everyone is doing well

Love and hugs

hi Tricia,
I was wondering where you were petal, that Irish dancing is hard work lol.
Sorry you have been ill, is this your first session?
I wish my hubby would clean, but he injured himself on Fri 13th so will do even less than normal, which is hard cause he doesn’t do much as it was.
I discussed trial with my onc but here in N. Ireland we have few research nurses and my hospital has only just got one who is having her induction, there aren’t really any that suit me anyhow at the moment.
I start 3xFEC and the 3xDoc (tax) on 25th, ready to start it now.

I see onc 25th June to tell me treatment plan. I’ll keep one eye and me good ear on this thread
Cheers for now

Hi ladies - good to start this one Lisa!

I’m starting TAC on 20th (this Friday) - 6 sessions. My good friend who is a consultant onc (not mine) said ‘oh dear - TAC - but at least you’ll be sure that the best is being done - you’ll feel awful though…’ - so thanks for the warning, mate of mine !!!

i dont’ read much about TAC here - anyone else got the pleasure???

Big love td xx

Sorry - being dense - is TAC Taxotere? Or is that abbreviated to TAX?

Sorry Td,
I am having FEC first, if it is tax like Helen has asked then I am having it last 3 sessions.

If it is it is a very stron anti-cancer drug and has all the same side effects as FEC together, so hair loss, nausea, etc etc.

We won’t be far apart then, I’m 5 days after you, woohoo!!

Sorry but I am so ready to kick this things ass, only reason I am not starting this week is because of family stuff, school concerts etc.

Hi girls

I got my first fec on the 11th (last week). i came home and a couple of hours later had to go to bed, was sick a few times. sickness stopped on Friday evening but i have had to lie down quite often for a rest. I was wondering what the rest of you have been like with the steriods as i thought i would have been better, instead it feels like they have had no effect on me as all i really felt was they need to sleep/lie down and have no energy.

You will be ok Lisa - I am having my 2nd FEC this Wednesday. Like you, 3FEC 3Taxotere.

The first FEC made me very sick, but better every day and back to normal within a week, and I have worked full time the last 2 weeks. I will ask them to do something different with the anti-sickness this time, as I think it can be controlled enough so that you’re not acually vomiting. Yuck!

love, Helen.

Oh the joys LOL.

I’m not bad with sickness, when I was pregnant with my 2 youngest I would get up, sit half an hour, vomit and then go eat breakfast.
It’s the steroids and the weight gain from them I am more concerned about, how vain LOL.
I have already put on too much from comfort eating don’t want to put much more on.

I am shattered as it is but then maybe I should go to bed at a reasonsable hour.
I am busy trying to organise our local Relay for Life and wondering how the hell I can approach survivors of cancer, I’m classed as a survivor already, its anyone dx.
But we need more, I have to say being part of the event has given me hope so want to make a special effort this year to get loads more involved.

Right must go meeting a friend for lunch, making the most of normality now (well whatever normality is).
Still need to sort my bloody house out :(.
Tonight for defo I will start the ironing (yeah right)

Hi Lisa/All

I’m starting chemo on 7th July. 4 epi followed by 4 cmf then 5 weeks radio. Like you say Lisa bring it on!!!

This is a kinda weird time isn’t it? I want to do lots of ‘nice’ things before it starts but I’m still recovering from my surgery 2 weeks ago and still a wee bit sore!
We also move house on Friday 27th June so its all go!

Anyway gotta go pick up some boxes - need to start somewhere!

Take care and hope all are well today!
Ali ;o)))

Hi Helen

  • no, tax is different to TAC which is Taxotere Adriamycin & Cyclophosphamide - so it has tax in it, but also the drug Adriamycin (now called doxorubicin) which has lots of side effects.

I think the reason my friend the oncologist says it’s so yucky is that. like FEC, you are getting 3 very powerful poisons to get rid of those little blighters so you have more side effects…

My onc gave me a printout from cancerbackup.org about TAC - very useful - I’d imagine that all the chemos are on there…

Ali - nice to hear from you!!! Don’t overdo it with the moving now… and make sure you get the computer plugged in as soon as you land!

Hi Td

A few of us on TAC. I had my second one over a week ago, and hand on heart all I have suffered is fatigue!! I feel like a fraud. After number one, a few iffy days and some mouth ulcers but that is it. Fingers crossed you won’t be much different. Search TAC and some of us have another thread if you need it (Starting TAC on 15th May I think it is).

Good luck!
Rebecca

Yuck yuck yuck.
I keep reading about all the side effects and all I can say is yuck lol.
I keep trying to prepare myself for the worst, I can’t believe I still have another week to go, time is slowing down now, might not be so bad though.
Still have loads to do in the house but the wasking has ground to a halt as the tumble drier door is fubarred, need to get a new one or at least the catches for it.

How is everyone doing?
Good luck to all those having their sessions this week, hope it goes OK.

Love and Hugs

Heya Lisa

As you probably know by now the waiting is the worst bit, and waiting for chemo to start is right up there in the not so much fun list.

Just try and distract yourself. I’d bet money that it won’t be as bad as you fear. I’m now entering week3 after my first round so should have done most of the side effects now. Hair is starting to fall out now but the way I see it when that’s done there should be no more suprises for a while… I like that.

Round 2 for me next monday. which means only a month till round 3 and that’s half way! I only started a fortnight ago.
Not wishing my life away honest

Good luck with it next week, hope you too have no sickness (I am getting fat though from eating too much

Thanks everyone.

It is so good to come on here and rant.
Anyway I have shool play tomorrow night, not seeing it on Thurs but have to drop off and pick up.
Friday is my eldests leavers Mass and apparently I am taking him out for dinner, first I knew of it.
Then they fly to Spain on Sunday so kiddie time this weekend,
So all in all pretty busy, I was supposed to start tomorrow but asked for it to be put off because of school stuff.
Trying to get this relay organised but I think we have about 7 or 8 teams which is great.

Hope everyone else is fine
Love and hugs
Lisa
