November 2024 chemo starters

They sent a couple of people home because the treatment wasn’t ready. So I am grateful for mine.

A couple of ladies had amazing wigs on - wouldn’t have guessed in a million years they were wigs. And another had a scarf tied like a 40s land girl and she looked so stylish. So food for thought.

Anyway, night night! Xx

Hi is anyone on this thread struggling with the pain that the filgrastim injections cause? I feel like me vertebra are being pulled apart, pain in my lower back & pelvis is really bad!! Just wondered what everyone else’s experience of the injections are?

oh my gosh you poor thing but so glad you’ve got your first one out of the way!! whoohooo!! sounds a bit scary though but I know they are good at acting quickly if anything arises!!

how did you sleep and how are you feeling this morning?!

I’ve just had my sister come over a chop all my hair, it was getting matted very quickly, so no actual shave yet but a very short boy cut, lol. it feels WAY better though!! it was getting extremely sore and itchy!!

hope you’re ok!! Xxxxxx

Not personally, but if you look at other chemo starter threads or search, lots of people do. I start my second lot tomorrow, so will report back, but the first round was alright. That doesn’t sound good though. I hope it settles down soon.

@shelbylou81 Oh my god that sounds horrible !
I have t been given the injections yet as they said they usually just watch and see what happens on this regime … I think I’ve seen others say that they are really unpleasant though :cold_sweat: the bone pain is your bone marrow rapidly making those extra white blood cells x

@stevie86 Oh god I didn’t sleep a wink until about five am  everytime I dosed off I had like a weird adrenaline rush and palpitations… I suspect the steroids or it could be abraxane side effects …. Subsequently I’m yawning non stop today .
I feel slightly short of breath today but they said I’m anaemic . No sunrise there due to heavy periods on blood thinners … I’ve stopped my hrt and I’ll be quite pleased if I never see period again !! I did laugh when I had to do a pregnancy test yesterday at 52

You’ll feel better with shorter hair if it’s matting … friends who e had chemo day your scalp. Can be quite painful as the hair falls out

Ooooh gosh. But sounds like you got a little bit of sleep!! hopefully you have a nap today!!? omg I was getting that weird adrenaline rush but that was just before chemo, I think it was all the stress and my brain not letting me sleep……. I haven’t had it since but it’s horrible isn’t it…. I also got it bad when I was going through my under active thyroid diagnosis a few years ago ;(

Oh I feel loads better now my dreadlocks have gone, lol…. that’s how my hair had become!! I might wash it now as it’s very itchy.

Watching a Christmas movie and putting tree up now✨🫶🏼

Hope you get some good rest today?! xxxxx

@stevie86 maybe some of it was just stress then as I did wake up on the morning of chemo with a racing heart … I’ve been painting today , not decorating I should add ! But now I feel quite washed out and faint … chemo constipation has kicked in already ! I’ve just downed a glass of laxido … oh the joys …

I bet your hair feels lighter and fresher now

Did you get your decorations done ?

aw painting sounds fun!! what did you paint, are you an artist?? you’ve probably told me or someone before but I forget with all these messages, lol. I’m a photographer in my spare time, so not professional but I just love taking photos!! I have an Instagram page for it.

Yessss me and Mum did the decorations, went for a little tree this year, as I wouldn’t have been able to get big tree out, so just easier with a little new one from Argos!! it’s so pretty!! I still live with my Mum, so she’s always here to help me, plus she’s just had a hip replacement this summer so I was helping her loads too!! she’s doing so well, bless her.

Awwww take it easy now then, just relax and drink LOADS of water!! really does help!! I’m watching strictly now with a jacket potato!! Lol.

Day 7 after first EC. Will I ever feel properly normal during chemo or do we all just accept some level of ‘illness’ for the months that we go through it? Had it on Monday and was horribly ill Monday night (although think because I ate when I got home and won’t do that again!), and spent following 4 days basically in bed! Exhaustion, hot and cold flushes constantly, constipation, mouth thrush, headaches, name a few. But mostly like I’m recovering from flu. Every day wake up thinking please feel better today! Got dressed properly yesterday and stayed away from my bedroom but was desperate to get back there at 5pm! Is this is now for months ahead? Am I unlucky? Is it just shock of first one? I keep reading about people coping so much better than me! I do hate to be ill by nature (I think something to do with control and lack of!). So sorry to moan. So many wonderful positive people on here. I feel like such a moaner!!!

oh you poor thing!! I really hope your start picking up soon…… was it an instant not well feeling when you got home from chemo?? and has it been constant since?? are you making sure to check your temperature often? quite a few people on here say they feel like they have the flu for a week or so, so maybe you will start improving the following week?? have you spoken to your breast cancer nurse or anything, just to explain how you’re feeling?! are you eating and drinking? some good advice is to drink LOADS!!! like it’s your main job!! Have you been sleeping loads?? this storm isn’t helping, I feel like my window is going to come through!!! scary sounds outside!! :-/

I’m so sorry you aren’t feeling well :(((( I felt a bit run down after about day 5ish but then I’ve felt pretty normal rest of the time…… I’m two weeks since mine now, I have my next one on Friday!! Not super looking forward to it but at least I know what to expect!!

Sending love!! Xxxxxxx

also, I’m on pretty much the same as you I think…… EC x4 and taxel x4……. and I’m only a week and a bit ahead of you!! Having surgery after!!

Xxxxx

Thanks for the reply. Yes first night was sudden and horrible. I’m optimistic I can take steps to avoid that next time (eat well before chemo and avoid food first night!). I think maybe I’m being a big baby. Checking temp often and it’s fine despite me feeling I’m running hot and cold in my chest. Yes, drinking like it’s a new hobby for sure! Have just done a couple of domestic chores and although knackered now I feel good for having done something! I think some of it is the fear of the unknown and they scare you so much with the serious side effects that you are always on high alert (well you are if you are me!). It’s just frightening being willingly poisoned! I’m sure I’ll get braver and more confident as it goes on and work out what helps me. By the way I’ve been drinking lots of organic ginger cordial with sparkling water that my husband bought. Highly recommend for sickness in the beginning if you are not a ginger biscuit kind of person (which I’m not).

This was the norm for me during EC. I spent a week in bed after it as I just felt so weak and rubbish. I’ve completed 4 now and thankfully moving on to paclitaxol. Praying I do better with that.

Sorry you’re feeling that way it really does suck feeling rubbish. I just make the most of the 2 weeks that I feel ok and appreciate the good days. Sending hugs

That’s reassuring. Thank you! I’m intriqued to see that yourself and @stevie86 are having it every three weeks. I am having every two weeks.
