November 2024 chemo starters

I forgot to buy some ginger biscuits actually…… i can’t have gluten but think they sell them at sainburys?!

I didn’t really have any sickness feeling…… so hoping I don’t get that on my next infusions!! I ate pretty normally, although was probably extra hungry on the steroids the first few days, eating anything and everything!! the first night of my infusion I made a mug cake for the first time, was amazingggg!! lol. obviously I’m trying not to eat too much sugar, but I don’t anyway!! I feel I can’t cut it out completely as would probably make me feel weird without sugar. Just trying to eat normal, with added protein as im also veggie too :-/

Oh god yes all the side effects that could possibly happen does scare you but I decided to just think I won’t get any…… think it helped??

Yes every 3 weeks for me!! I’m not sure why?? I thought yours might have been too?? X

Hi, I had my first cycle of TC on Wednesday and went ok. The steroids gave me headache for 3 days but managed it with paracetamol approved by the nurse. I have to say I’ve felt like I have had a hangover since Wednesday. My head feels very foggy and although no sickness and I’m taking the anti sickness pills my stomach feels queasy and Ive lost much of my appetite for food. The filgastrim injections have been ok. Nothing more than a few aches now and again. Have had naps and noticed yesterday that showering breakfast and a dog walk put me to sleep for over an hour afterwards so I hadn’t realised how just small things might make me feel exhausted. All in all I’m managing without feeling too bad. Just hope my head clears soon. It’s an unpleasant feeling carrying this fog all day. Sending you my love and hope your first cycle goes well. Xx

@stevie86 The tree looks lovely :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: makes it feel Christmassy when decorations start to go up and we all need a bit of christmas cheer x
It’s lovely that you have your mum and she has you too after her op , there’s no substitute for having mum when you feel rough ! :see_no_evil:

I’m a face and body artist , canvas artist , furniture artist and amateur landscape photographer lol … I was keeping busy painting some designs out but I’ve paid for it today as I’m feeling groggy and tired although I did sleep better last night . I do love to follow photographers so please feel free to message me your insta and I’ll follow  I don’t have an account for my photography anything as it became my furniture account but as today is wild and windy and I hope everyone is keeping safe , here’s something to look forward to … summer days when hopefully we’ll be looking back at chemo at least as is in the past xx (golden hour on watchet beach )

It’s my sisters birthday today, so she and my young nephew are popping over for a bit today, so that will be nice!! no hugging and kissing though but I’ve missed my nephew sooooooo much with all this going on, breaks my heart. So can’t wait to see him!!

I hope you feel a bit better soon. That sounds rotten. I think we are all just different. I’ve been taking my anti-sickness pills like my life depends on them and drinking lots of water too. Maybe they can prescribe some different pills for you next time. I have buckets of them to take - or it feels like it! I have been using a mouthwash to help my mouth - not sure if it has but I like to think so!

Have you started your injections yet?

I had my second round of EC on Friday so it’s still early days. The nurse and onc both said I might feel more tired as it goes on, but I’ve actually been less tired so far - as I say early days. I found that going for a walk every day perked me up a bit - I know you probably don’t feel like that though - but just some fresh air got things moving a bit. I start my injections again tonight so not looking forward to that. I hated them last time.

One of the ladies sitting next to me said that the first one was the worst, then your body gets a bit more used to the shock of it - so fingers crossed…

I hope as you go into your second week, you feel brighter. I suddenly turned a corner and felt pretty ok. It’s tough though and you get used to one drug and then you are onto a different one. And not knowing what side effects might hit you and when is particularly hard.

All we can do is listen to our bodies and take it easy when we need to.

Hi everyone, hope you are all ok- some very mixed reactions. I had my first EC on Friday evening so it’s very early days. Definitely having nausea but not as horrific as I expected. However, I don’t want to speak to soon. Definitely feeling ropey, exhausted and lightheaded! I’m trying to get up and do a bit around the house but I feel like it would be so easy to overdo it.
My steroids finished this morn so I’m dreading the further exhaustion and nausea they may follow.
Sending you all much love

Thanks for the update! That gives me confidence. I was supposed to have my first TC on Friday 29th but have delayed it a week as that’s my partners’ birthday. Hope you’re feeling better soon, and that these cycles fly by! Sending good energy.

@rfg - Don’t forget that if you are struggling with any side effects , do call the number in your red card . The idea is that you have few side effects as possible x I think for many , side effects can kick in from straight after to a couple of days later and can last up to ten days … If you’ve been b floored by your first dose you might have a dose reduction next time x Don’t forget two keep an eye on your temperature too

I inhaled a pizza on Friday evening and it’s probably the reason why I then had hot flushes and palpitations all night :see_no_evil:

@louisea77 Glad to hear your first round went well and that the injections aren’t affecting you to much . I think the chemo fog is definitely a thing !

Don’t overdo it and listen to your body x

@flojo Good to hear round two isn’t so bad - fingers crossed for you that it stays that way x

@rfg I’ve just noticed you are on a dose sense cycle ago that might be why dude effects are hitting a bit harder x

@sam3 I had my first nab- paclitaxel on Friday and I’m feeling similiar , hung over and I feel wiped out like I’m getting over a really vile bug … nausea has been ok …but taste buds have gone to pot already ! All my favourite things taste like … nothing … husband is cooking me egg fried rice from scratch because I had an Intense craving !

Chemo constipation is literally kicking my butt right now !!

You take it easy too - glad your nausea has been ok. I had terrible cravings for Marmite last time - every day for several days. But this time, it’s not the same. Weird isn’t it! Hope things settle soon. xx

That’s actually a good nudge. I think I have been feeling like I have to be brave and like all the side effects are just bad luck. Also probably a bit of ‘I don’t like to bother them’ which is ridiculous. I did call them on Saturday as the oral thrush was grim and it was painful to swallow. My husband picked up a prescription from the hospital for that. I think overridingly I just feel really disappointed in myself. Which I do realise is ridiculous I know. I felt like I shouldn’t call the hotline unless an emergency. But I am realising that I’ve got that wrong and I don’t have to be ‘brave’ like I’m trying to be…… I’m intending to speak to my nurse tomorrow to update her. I hear you on the pizza front - appetite is def back (in fact feel constantly gurgly) but I really pay for it an hour later. Have to have a hot pack on my lower abdomen. Also still mostly in my bed and chemo was last Monday! Had a little cry on my other half which actually really helped. Feel a bit less catastrophic now! Thank you so much for all your support. Hope you are ok……Rosie.

I normally drink at least ten mugs of tea a day. Today I’ve had one and a half and can’t stomach anymore. I am craving butterscotch angel delight- weird! I don’t have any so I’ll see if craving is still there tomorrow and get some.
I managed to get a shower this evening, I didn’t have one yesterday as it was too much effort :hear_no_evil: I feel better for it but I’m terribly bloated, headache and nausea still.

@rfg we don’t have to be brave … we just have to crack on with this but that doesn’t mean suffering in silence , take all the meds you need … let your team know how you are feeling … it’s a rubbish journey to navigate but the treatments for chemo side effects are so much better now x

I’m also suffering from low achey abdomen … Thank god for heat packs x

@sam3 The cravings are weird ! I’m now craving strawberry milkshake :see_no_evil: I’d love a shower but feel like I might faint

@arty1 I was exactly same- worried I’d fall over in shower. I managed ok by lastnight thankfully. Feel nauseous this morning  Hope you are doing ok. Big hugs x

The oncologist gave me the go ahead for Weds following the delay due to infected seroma, so I’m still in the November club!

omg my heartburn and acid reflux was actually my worst symptom after my first infusion…… I had to call red card but they said I could just take antacid unless it get worse. it has since subsided and not as bad…… but I could even lie down for like a week because of it :frowning:

How are you feeling now?? are you taking anything for it?? I’ve actually been given ingestion tablets for this round of chemo, I have to take them for 5 days!! so it’s obviously a thing that can happen??

Hope you haven’t been suffering too bad??

Sending love!! Xxxxx
