November 2024 chemo starters

Two down and two to go - that’s halfway! Before you know, you will be done! xx

@stevie86 I need to do something productive with it  I’ve power wrapped the rest of the pressies too !
Woohoo for cycle 3 … that’s half way ! Xx

@flojo as long as no more delays my last one should be on 30th Jan but the injections unfortunately don’t end until Nov

@bluehourd well done on getting through that … how have you been ? I notice a lot if you take steroids the day before … I just get mind by injection on the day then tablets to take home

I thought I’d share all my wigs … I’m having great fun changing my style … My hair is now patchy bald … underneath them all

You look brilliant - and very confident! Do you have a favourite? I went out for a walk with a friend today in my wig - I’m always worried it falls off my head though!! xx

@flojo Well it’s kind of fake it till you make it … !

I know it’s not the same as your own hair but the wigs are quite fun because I can almost change identity … I do worry about them blowing off

How did you feel in your wig apart from the wind risk !

the hat wigs are great as the hat holds the hair on … my faves are the first one with the purple hat , the red one and black one with pink ends
Just for clarification here’s me today with no wig … not pretty !

Hi! Please forgive me as i just saw this…i will be responding to later this evening…i just have to take care of children and get them ready for sports tonight. Hope you are doing well…and just so you know YOU GOT THIS…your going to do great…stay strong!

Hi! My apologies for not responding sooner. I was offered tamoxifen/ alongside chemical induced ovarian suppression which is standard regimen offered at Memorial Sloan Kettering where i received treatment. After doing extensive research and self evaluation i felt surgical menopause was the best option for me…i had my surgery 3 weeks and i feel great…just little emotional…it was the BEST decision i ever made…below are my personal lists of reasons why i REFUSED tamoxifen/ chemical ovarian supreme and went surgically.

  1. I am done having kids, ovaries not needed, every women will go through menopause, mine will just be alittle sooner and actually i feel no different.

  2. You are at increased risk for ovarian cancer when being diagnosed with breast cancer… het rid of them…

  3. I refuse to go monthly to clinic and receive painful injections on my stomach to supress ovarian function, too much energy, time, stress, for 5 years every month.

  4. Tamoxifen has risk of endometrial cancer. Look it up, its low the risk, but its there. I thought to myself i got breast cancer, whos to say i couldn’t get that cancer. Not worth taking the chance…

  5. I did not want more medicine in my body the chemical ovarian supreme comes with alot of potential side effects…not into side effects…i combated them throughout chemotherapy but 5 years is a different story…

And…if you do not remain in chemical induced menopause with tamoxifen and shots you may have to continue suppression longer because our hormones fueled the cancer…

Any questions or anytime you want to talk…heres my email…ill send you my number.

Take care!!! Stay strong…go get it!!

I think you look fab in them all, but the first two are lovely. Maybe I need to experiment a bit - scare the neighbours! The wig certainly gives me more confidence and makes me feel more ‘normal’.

You still look great in your ‘no wig’ pic - much better than my horrible fluff. I have enough hair hanging down still to put a hat on and it looks as though I still have a reasonable head of hair - just about!

I hope you are feeling ok today. xx

@flojo I love dying my hair and I haven’t seen my natural hair colour since I was 16 lol so I thought the only way I could cope with losing it all was to embrace it and go crazy with wigs … different ones for different outfits and moods !
It confuses the neighbours and the hospital staff too  I shaved mine as soon as the shed kicked in because it was painful ., like it was being pulled out at the roots

Wig selfie - excuse the mess in the background!

I would love to be brave enough - used to dye my hair different colours when I was younger!

@flojo you look amazing !

I’m not a happy bunny … triage kind have sent me to MAU as it looks like I’ve had some tissue leakage round my cannula … It’s packed and of course everyone is coughing up a lung .
I’ve got a mask on but hubby hasn’t so if he catches something I’m done for and he picks up every bug going … uggh … I asked if there was a side room I could wait in but was told no … technically the leakage is a medical emergency but she said it’s a four hour wait to be seen so I’m leaving if I have g been seen soon as there’s a really poorly man here too puking into a bowl
:sob:

Anyone had a flushed red face after treatment? I had my 3rd EC chemo yesterday, with IV steroids and antihistamines 30 minutes before due to previous allergic reaction - along with first bone infusion - mid morning today my face and neck got very flushed - lower part like a beard :flushed:- I took an antihistamine and it settled slowly? Anyone else have this? Temp fine. I suppose I could take my pick of which of the drugs caused it :woman_shrugging:

Nooooo. That’s awful. Flipping heck. I hope you get out of there really quickly. That’s crap.

I would try to get it looked at as I’ve had a painful arm for weeks as the antib’s leaked from the cannula but if it’s chemo that has leaked then that should def be looked at.

@shefflass it could be the steroids … its quite normal to get a bit of flushing but as always . It’s always best to ring the triage line and check xx

@flojo last place I want to be with a quad demic of bugs around !!

@Linda_Corinne there was no evidence of it on the day … hand looked fine afterwards … however a nurse practioner has looked and thinks it’s just some really awful bruising as around the aging purple is green bruising . She said there’s no evidence of any hardness in the area . It’s all nice and soft … she’s advised keeping an eye on the dark red area and if it doesn’t start to fade or spreads … to ring back … she’s advised keeping if raised and warm compress which they advise for potential extraversation but she says she’d expect it to feel swollen and hard if there had been leakage

Yes! I have had three EC and always have a flushed face and chest for a few days after. I think I worked out it was the steroids. (not had any bone infusions).
