November 2024 chemo starters

Thanks for asking. I’m not too bad all things considered. I feel more normal today and my energy levels have come back a bit. Horrible taste seems to be going too. I am seriously grumpy though - tiniest thing sets me off! I am not sure why. My husband needs to wear a tin hat!

Five rounds sounds good - I’d take it! If all goes to plan, we both finish on 14 Feb as I’m having six. Yay, Valentine’s Day!

My diet has gone awol - seem to keep eating crisps and biscuits - I don’t normally do that.

It’s nice to see some sunshine today. Don’t overdo it with the decorating!

Hi all, I’m starting chemo on the 20th, 3 cycles of EC followed by 3 cycles of docetaxel. I look forward to getting to know you.

@stevie86 - I’d be bored too! scrapbooking is really therapeutic though … maybe time for a new hobby ? Something you haven’t had time to try before ?

@flojo ahh snap on the dates ! Great valentines day pressie  I’d rather some flowers :see_no_evil:… I’m hoping the dates correct but they might still have the end date of my old regime … unless they are giving me it weekly like pax but the breast nurse said it’s not given weekly …

I’m not sure my hubby will notice if I’m irritable … I’ve been permanently annoyed since I had to come off hrt  I’m guessing it might be the steroids causing that ?

@flower5 Welcome to the November crew , we are all in the same boat here and simultaneously holding each others hands ,we will get through this together  have you had surgery or are you having chemo first ?

I’m off tomorrow for my oncology appointment to sign consent and get my dates. I’m doing 4 rounds fortnightly EC followed by 4 fortnighly rounds of paxitel. Seems like alot as the cancer removed was 12mm stage 2 with 2 nodes involved with clear margins. I get the logic of preventative chemo after surgery but was thinking it would be a bit more light touch? They keep saying I’m young and should do a strong dose (I’m 45). Ugh. Needed to whinge so thanks for listening!

Also-- anyone here using exercise to manage treatment? I ramped up my exercise before surgery and it seemed to really help. I’m now prepping to exercise through the chemo treatment. It’s a bit tricky as I’m still recovering from surgery so it is pretty much all lower body work apart from the bicep curl. I think there are alot of squats in my future…

You will be back out there before you know it @arty1 - you’ve got this
Good luck for this week and good luck for anyone starting chemo this week - lots of love , reassurance and hugs :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Hi @bluehourd any chance you could share your exercise regime . That sounds like a really positive way of balancing things
Thank you for highlighting xx

This is a great sounding board - we are all here to listen

@bluehourd are you her2 ? I am so I’m also having herceptin for a year . I’m in the same position as you in that all the cancer was removed (had left sided mastectomy) but my nodes were clear , however the oncologist said it’s a belt and braces approach to “mop up” any stray cells that might have escaped and prevent reoccurrence- I desperately wanted to avoid chemo but I know I’d never forgive myself if it came back and I’d declined the chemo x

I don’t work out but I try to get out and do at least 10 thousands steps a day … not easy with long covid but I’m doing my best … there is a woman on Instagram who worked out all the way through chemo , I can’t remember her name … but certainly keeping as active as we ca. while still allowing our bodies to rest and recover , will do the world of good …x

I’m on the same treatment plan @flower5 , cycle 2 is on 251124.
Holding hands all the way :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Thanks for the best wishes. I am starting my chemo in an hour so have had a walk in the wind and sun and preparing to go in. I am nervous but upbeat so far :yum:. I will post later to tell how it went. Xx

I’ve had my surgery, a lumpectomy and subsequently axillary node clearance.

I’m Her2 negative, E+ Pr +, 2 nodes involved. Glad to hear others are having a “mop up” treatment as well… well not glad but it’s nice to have company.

I started with this podcast by Liz ORiordian, and then bought the book of the author she’s interviewing. Why you should keep exercising - So Now I’ve Got Breast Cancer - Apple Podcasts

The book has exercise regimes explained, with all sorts of resources. There’s alot on her website too. https://www.movingthroughcancer.com/

After reading all that stuff I went a bit OTT waiting for my surgery and got a personal trainer who specialised in women’s health and is an oncology nurse. She’s been amazing, worth it you can do it.
