November starters

I start chemo on Monday. Anyone else joining me on this journey. MRI on Saturday, CT the following Sunday
Much to think about

Hi Daffodil. I am one of the November Newbies who started chemo last November. I just wanted to wish you luck and to say that it may seem like a long slog at the moment but you will get through it. Looking back for me in many ways time has really flown and I am starting to get some normality back in my life. Sending you lots of warm thoughts and best wishes. Tazzles x

Hi Daffodilli

I’m a February Valentine 2013, one of my better decisions was to join the group. We gave each other tremendous support, we could have a rant, express our fears and also had lots of laughs. We’re still in touch, several often meet up and we are becoming closer all the time, still supporting one another. I’m sure there will soon be others to join you and I hope your group will become as close and supportive as we were.

Sending big hugs

I’m another November Newbie 2013 dropping in to wish you all good luck. Keep an open mind and don’t stress about posts you’ve read regarding side effects, everyone is different. If you suffer with sickness ask your oncologist for Emend, it truly was a life safer for me. Chemo treatment goes quicker than you realise as you’re living for the next chemo session. Remember to drink loads of water on your chemo day as it definitely helps. We setup a private Facebook page which was brilliant as we could say what we wanted to say without offending anyone but remember it’s also important to continue posting here as this will help others looking for answers. Take care all, stay strong and before you know it you’ll be ‘out the other side’.

Love Tracy XXX

Hello Daffodilli

I’m should be starting fec-t all being well on Wednesday. Yes much to think about and sometimes that’s all I feel like I do! I’ve looked at the other threads and the ladies all seem to be of such great support to each other. I hope that we can help each other along the way and do the same.

Wishing you luck for Monday.

Hi bellabelle and hopalong
Thank you for joining me. I’m having FEC-t . I agree thinking is all I seem to do as well. I’m using my friends to help me through. I may feel a bit better once I have had my ,has it spread, news on Thursday. Trying to keep positive for my son who is 12. It’s tough but no choices here got to keep moving forward. Good luck with your line insertion hopalong I can see that good veins may be an advantage .

Hi Diane
Sorry you are on the same journey. Just think that this is one chemo down and a step nearer getting through this. Glad you are feeling better and thanks for the tip for Monday ive cancelled everything for Tuesday. Take care

Hi all

I am due to start FEC-T in 2 weeks’ time, so I thought I’d join this thread so I know what to expect…  Has anyone bought any of the nail treatments I’ve seen recommended on some other threads… I’ve looked at the OnicoLife one but wonder if you have had anything different recommended to you…   have any of you had your hair cut very short or shaved before you start?  I saw my oncologist last week, and he said that with FEC I would definitely lose my hair. I said that I’d had a much shorter haircut a few days previously to make it easier and his response was ‘you might as well have just had it all shaved off as you will lose it anyway’…  He made a few other less than nice comments too, but I wondered if most people wait and see…  Thanks - & I’ll keep in touch

Testrix and Diane1962 hello and sorry that you had to join us.

I’ve not looked at any nail stuff or really prepared for my Chemo at all really.I’m just feeling that I can’t be bothered with all this now and I want my life back (so much for being positive) and talk about burying your head the sand hey!!!

Testrix- I’m sorry your oncologist seems so unsympathetic when you last saw him. I think what you’ve done with your hair seems like the right thing to do.

Daffodilli - take care and  I’ll be thinking of you today

Sending big hugs to all you ladies who are having treatment today and sorry for whining

Bellabelle

Good luck for today Daffodilli - hope all goes OK

Diane - Tues & Bellabelle - Weds

Wish I could just get started now - but evidently I need to go & have a flu jab in the next few days

Hi guys. I had a full mx on Thursday and will be going bk to get my treatment plan on 13th nov. I know chemo is on the cards so thought I could maybe join your group if that is ok.

Well here I go ladies I’m about to join you!!  Given the OK by my oncologist yesterday to have my first fec today. I’ve decided not to cold cap,(don’t think I could stand the brain freeze.) I must admit though, the thought of loosing my hair is quite a big thing so wig fitting here I come.

Hope everyone one has a good day.

Daffodilli I hope you get the news you wish for tomorrow. I’ll be thinking of you xx

Thinking of you Bellabelle.  I’m feeling much more positive today - though the waiting to get it all started is something I’d like to go quicker rather than slower…

Had a really good chat with lovely BCN yesterday - I asked questions & discussed my situation & at the end, when she realised how upset I’d been by various comments made by the oncologist last week, (not just the hair, but about my hope to do some work during chemo, him telling me not to bother writing stuff down, insisting that both breasts had been scanned when I knew only my right one had… oh the list goes on & on) she offered to transfer me to someone else… YES!  The thought of having to see the other guy was a BIG negative, so it feels like a big weight off my mind…

Also she gave me lots of info about wigs & stuff & I LOVE this website that she gave me info on - suburbanturban.co.uk/women-hair-loss/shop/hats/

I’m trying to decide between Fleur and Genevieve…

I’m also going to make a big batch of veg soup this weekend and freeze meal size portions ready for if I don’t feel like cooking once chemo starts…

And I’m progressing a claim for ESA - so I will have a bit of money coming in to help with rent etc

Sorry to go on…

Hope all went OK Daffodilli?

Hug

Well that’s the first one out the way. Didn’t sleep much and was sick once on the first night but so far it’s not been that bad. I’ve got a new found taste for ginger ale which I hated before! I sucked on Rennies though the night which seemed to help too.

Testrix I’m sure when you meet your new oncologist it will make all the difference. I have total faith in mine,he explains everything twice if needs be and always asks how I feel its definitely helped me. Have you decided on Fleur or Genevieve yet? Fab website by the way.

Hopalong glad you are still doing well. It so strange isn’t it when you first wake up and wonder what the day will bring? Today mine is feeling tired so trashy movies on the settee for me.

Paula I hope you are recovering well from your op and Daffodilli you are OK.

Hoping everyone has a good day.

Bellabelle

Hope you don’t mind if I join you - I had my first Chemo (FEC-T) Thurs 30/10.  Sick Fri, but just nausea Sat and Sun. Took all my anti-sickness drugs as instructed.  However have felt fine since Monday and just worked all week (I’m a teacher in a secondary school).  Although not everybody would want to do this (and I might not be able to keep it up!) for me it is important to be as normal as possible.  So if anyone is thinking about working at the same time try it, it might keep your mind off all the other stuff!  No hair loss yet, but have got hats from Suburban Turban - the Genevieve and others! Really recommend them, you can get them online or visit their workshop in Surrey, which I did and they were lovely and really helpful.  Good luck to you all who are just starting. x

Hi ladies
Hope you don’t mind me posting on here, I start my chemo on mon 17th. I am having TAC chemo. Really worried about starting this & how iam gonna feel!? Plus I hav a 4month old son! Luckly I have friends and family to help but it’s not the same! ? good luck to all the ladies havin chemo this week. Xxx

Well I finally feel human a bit of a rocky week, 1 down 7 to go. Thank goodness my parents were here to help
Wig fitted scarves hats etc in preparation for hair falling out. Very achy from ??? Gif injections. I find if I pace myself do something-rest-rest-do something. My 12yr old has been amazing I’m so proud of him. MRI was positive no lymph involvement but CT to go tomorrow.

HI Tweedypie & Remel - sad but glad we are increasing in numbers!!! I don’t know about everyone else, but after 2 days of rain here, the sun is peeking through this morning… It does make a difference…

Good morning lovely ladies x x

Sorry I’ve not been on here for a few days I’ve had a strange week to be honest !
Today I’m on day 13 first FEC …I’ve had four great back to normal self days !!!
I feel the the first week after chemo is a tough week with so many different feelings and symptoms affecting your body…the worse symptom I’ve had is really bad head aches like a hangover from hell x100 with a Migraine thrown in !!
I am now feeling more prepared for the my next one on the 18th sure I’m one day behind you Hopalong and also like yourself I’ve been off since 4th September the day I got my biopsy results , the work I do is on a customer service dept in a really busy environment not the best place to be at this moment in time in my life x
I’ve only been with the company for two years so I get very little help regarding pay I get two full weeks and the rest SSP which isn’t great …good job I have some savings ! I’m going to look into it tomorrow as I feeling stronger to ask for advice now as surely there’s got to be more help for us cancer patients out there.
Is anyone else in the same situation??? X
My hair is still on head although looking a bit stressed I had it cut quite short a few weeks back as I had a curly short bob going to have it cut even shorter tomorrow …I have my appointment to see wig lady on Tuesday to try some on .
Daffodil so glad your first FEC went ok …tick that big box I down 7 to go !!! X
Big hugs to all x x
