Well done Peggycat! That’s one down. Glad you managed the cold cap and it is bearable isn’t it? Take care and rest up! Xx
Just a warning that your treatments may not start at the time you are given. My appointment was for 2 but no treatment started until 4. Caused havoc with arrangements for picking up the kids and was, for me, more stressful than the treatment.
Well done Ruth, glad it went smoothly and hope you continue to feel ok…look after yourself this eve and tomorrow xxx
Hi PC, I am getting mine from a company called Trendco, you do have to spend your voucher in certain outlets, but there was quite a variety to choose from.
Also Barry, my hospital does not provide a food service, only drinks, so we had to bring our own, so may be worth checking with your unit first.
FEC 1 done for me too. I also decided to give the cold cap a go and was pleasantly surprised as I had talked myself out of trying it on the way there. I also had a little cry Peggy. My husband is away so my daughter 18 came with me. I think she was a bit overwhelmed when they started getting everything together to access my port and got the needle out. I turned to say something to her, and saw she was crying and that set me off.
at the moment I am on the sofa drinking water and waiting for something or nothing to happen. Very odd. I’ve got a pile of medication to familiarise myself with as well. At the moment i don’t quite feel myself but can’t quite put my finger on it. Sort of like pre flu symptoms. I also have red wee!!!
hope all went ok with you Caffy.
Emma
Well done Emma. My friend who was with me shed a few tears too. Totally normal I’m sure and probably better than holding it all in. It’s weird just wanting for something to happen isn’t it? I too feel pre-cold/flu-ish and have the red wee although it’s more pinky now which is hopefully a good sign.
Thanks for kind words everyone. It’s a real comfort to come here and talk to you all. x
Well done all of you who have had 1st treatments today x x x
Understandable you and your daughter shed a tear Emma. I’m sure whoever gets to sit with Nikki initially will with her (her parents and I will take her to the hospital) One down for you too! x
That reminds me I need to buy some ice lollies for Nikki.
One down for too Chris.
Wow Chris, you did get a goody bag of drugs. I only got 2 x sickness, steriods and mouthwash. Luckily I have all the others and I did get a free lunch so I can’t complain! Currently drinking lemon and ginger tea, water and have eaten a few prunes as my nurse made me totally paranoid about constipation. Not the way I would chose to spend Friday evening but glad to be moving on. Look after yourself. xx
Sprouts are good Peggycat caffy well done for getting the first one out of the way keep drinking water and ginger xxxxxxxx
I suppose we are entering into sprout season Sarah. :smileyhappy:
I’ve eaten an insane amount of spinach since I had my surgery. Expect I’ll go off it after all this as it will forever be associated with BC.
If you are not too find of prunes sprouts really help as an alternative I’m addicted to marmite and cheese spread in toast so I don’t think I will ever touch that again either! Shame as I love marmite xxxxx
That’s strange Sarahd - I lived on marmite and cheese on toast when I was pregnant!
Ran my fingers through my hair this evening and now my scalp feels sore - bit like when you take out a pony tail that has been in all day. Hope this doesn’t mean I wake up with no hair tomorrow!
Hope everyone has a good and healthy evening. Don’t forget to take the anti-sickness tablets even if you feel fine
Morning all. I’ve had an interesting night. We got home from the hospital at about 5.30. By 6.30 I started to feel a bit jittery, like too much caffeine. I had a bit to eat and was in bed by 7.30, and in the bathroom by 8 feeling retched with nausea and tummy cramps along with cold sweats and not knowing what to do with myself. This started to go off and I was back in bed by about 9 and have slept reasonably well apart from being too hot and then too cold. I’m now wide awake wondering if I’m over the worst of it.
Chris, Peggy I hope you two are doing well too.
Emma x
Morning ladies & Barry, morning 2 after FEC 1, didn’t sleep so well last night, I had terrible heartburn between about 2-6.30am, got about an hour after, so got up now. I also had to take 2 laxative tablets as I still haven’t been to the loo, Still nothing yet!!, so this morning I feel a little nauseous, belly ache and my tongue is still sore, so far not bad, I am still sat thinking it’s going to hit me like a brick at some point.
To the ladies who had their first treatment earlier than mine (8th), how long did it take before the side effects kicked in with you?. Thanks and keep well xx
Morning ladies. Jayney did you eat much yesterday? Are you eating anything to help you go to the loo?
Em did you have anti sickness tablets when you got home or once you started feeling nauseous? x
Morning all.
Emma, sorry to hear you felt rough last night but glad it was short-lived, for now, at least.
Jayne, hope the heartburn and associated tummy issues improve and things “get moving.” After the talk my chemo nurse gave me yesterday this is my number one concern. Going to put a load of bran on my muesli in a bit and will chuck in a few prunes for good measure. Sprouts may be brought into play later.
As for me, well, I had a short nap when I got in late afternoon then went to bed at 10.30 after a very light supper. Slept okay until hubby came to bed at 1.30 then lay awake until around 3.45 hot and wondering when I was going to start feeling sick. Woke up again around 7.30 and took my pre-breakfast anti-sickness meds and am now sitting in bed with a cuppa - which I am delighted to say still tastes pretty much like tea. Worst thing for me at the moment is just the tiredness and when I first woke at 7.30 this morning I just could not open my eyes they felt so heavy. Will take the steriods shortly with breakfast and perhaps they will perk me up.
I guess you read the lists of SEs and imagine they will all apply to you - fingers crossed that we all get away with at least some of them.
Big hug to all. x
When are symptoms meant to kick in? Anytime?
Not too bad for a first night then PC x
No Barry, I can’t complain so far. My eyes are very gritty and heavy on top of the tiredness but the lack of actually being sick so far has pleasantly surprised me. I’m scared to get too cocky mind and like Jayne am just waiting for the brick to hit. But, so far so good as far as that all goes.
Chemo nurse told me yesterday that you are most likely to start to feel it the day after - although she didn’t specify what exactly. Her major concern was the bowels!
Do you and Nikki have anything nice planned for today or is it your big shopping trip for supplies?
