My kids were 9 and 12/at diagnosis, youngest started middle school on my dx day. School fab. Head of my sons year took control and fed back to those who need to know. Provision put in place for crashing after school clubs. Needed hslp froms for clashing pick ups but we got through it .!
Liz, hope you continue to do well and keep away from the pumpkin smoothies from now on. x
I think I’ve emerged the other end, though I haven’t got out of bed yet so fingers crossed. I spent most of yesterday in bed feeling rough and sleeping. I had a nice bath about when I started to feel more human. I was still back in bed by 8.30 last night. I had a good night and am feeling much better so far. Still a bit achy, but will take paracetamol for that. The eagle landed yesterday. Oh my word the instant improvement!!! I did not fully appreciate how ill being constipated can make you feel. This is definitely one thing I will prepare for better next time.
I’ve got a little appetite back so am taking advantage and having small tasty meals. A lovely friend of ours had cooked us a spicy tomato and veg casserole which we had last night with some pasta. It was perfect. I have been off food so much I couldn’t even bear the thought of anyone putting anything into their bodies. My poor family! I kept on telling them not to eat too much. I do wonder if i’ll ever see food the same way again. I’m hungry but wary.
I hope nikki is doing ok Barry. And thinking of you all who have still to start. We know it’s not going to be easy, but it’s doable. One day at a time. Does anyone have any hair loss to report? I’m still complete, but only day 8. From what I can see it may be a different story this time next week.
Emma D
Morning all,
No hair loss yet Emma, I’m on day 8 also, head tingling a bit but nothing more.
Does anyone else have headaches, I seem to be suffering at the moment and obviously panicking that it’s something else lurking.
Still no no major side effects to report, just the usual digestive ones, heartburn, constipation and nausea, but all mild.
have a good day all.

Hi everyone, glad you are all doing ok. I’m day 16 and still pretty good. Yes I am also having headaches Jayne, not too bad most days though, but I did take paracetamol when it was bad one day and that helped. I also have had a mild sore throat for about 4 days now…comes and goes and doesn’t really get any worse so just monitoring. My hair is still here, though pubes are defo disappearing, leaving a light dusting around the bedroom and bathroom, like pixie dust only without the magical qualities Starting to notice more loose hairs from my head too so must only be a matter of time before I’m going to have to shave it off, but every day before then is a bonus. Ordered a couple of little beanies from a nice site, Bold Beanies, to wear at home/under scarves, and borrowed a selection of great hats from a trendy friend, so as ready as I’ll ever be! Hope everyone is ok today, as young Mr Grace would say, ‘You’re all doing very well!’ (You might have to be a certain age to appreciate that Are You Being Served reference!) xxx
Ele I thought you were going to mention your “pussies”
then! Did anyone tell you not to take paracetamol, as Nikki was. As it masks infections apparently?
Morning all. Glad to hear that people are feeling somewhat improved today.
I am laughing at your Young Mr Grace and magic fairy dust comments Ele J. I am definitely old enough to recall the former.
I keep thinking that my scalp is tingling but can’t be sure if I am imagining it, if it’s to do with chemo or quite simply the fact that because it’s not been washed in days due to cold capping that it’s just filthy and itchy. Oh the glamour.
Wishing you all a good day. And hope to hear from Nikki and Barry soon. xx
Morning Ruth. A bit more sickness overnight, eaten some dry toast so meds can be taken. We’re wondering if the Zoladex injection has made the SEs worse x
Hi Bazza, with regards to paracetamol, they just said to me, if you are going to take any, ensure you take your temp first, as it will mask a hike in temp, so need to know what it is first x
That makes sense. Amazing how they say different things x
Jojo, you have really made me laugh with your Hurricane Ladygarden description!! I think the head hair is a big deal though…although I never for a second contemplated cold capping, as for me it just sounded too miserable, I’m actually dreading being bald because I imagine I will suddenly be so visibly ‘Cancer Patient’ to all and sundry. But, like every other step so far, i guess we’ll just deal with it.
How’s Nikki doing Barry? And no, Mrs Slocombe is probably a step too 70s, even for me
Still feeling a bit sick but eaten dry toast and sipping water with all the meds taken now, so fingers crossed they work x
Sorry Barry, ignore me, saw your update below now. Hope the toast and meds start to work xxx
Fingers crossed Barry that the meds get to work soon. I found them to be pretty effective once in the system.
Are people who are contemplating shaving their head going to use clippers or a razor? Just not sure if I have to do this what the best approach would be.
Discovered a lovely drink last night, recommended by someone elsewhere on this site: Bottlegreen Ginger and Lemongrass cordial. Mixed with some fizzy water it almost gives the illusion of drinking something glamorous, especially if you put it in a nice glass, and the ginger helps with any nausea. That’s my top tip for today.
xx
Where did you buy that from Ruth? x
Sainsburys Barry. Really recommend it.
With regards to head shaving, my hairdresser also said no to a razor, as you can damage the hair follicles further with can impede hair re-growth. He also said that when you use electric clippers you need to follow the way you hair grows, again so not to damage the follicles further. He has said he will come round to my house after work one evening to do mine, so I don’t have to face the salon, hopefully I’ll get another week before it happens though x
Thanks Jayne and Hazel. Makes perfect sense. Inexperienced person with clippers or a razor could spell disaster.
Well ladies,
I’ve had ‘the call’ - I’m in on Monday - eeek!
Live been told that I’m also having an ECG, and an MRI - as well as a port fitting to make it easier to get the infusion into me (I’ve got rubbish hand veins) - why do they do the MRI?
Hope you’re all feeling well under the circumstances and I’ve found the information and tips on here invaluable xx
Em x
Hi Emma S
I had an MRI before chemo. I will also be having one before my 7th cycle so that they can compare the size of the lump to ensure that it has shrunk enough before the operate.
Hope this help
Liz
