October 2025 chemo starters

Hey Boobie Pals
Ive finally figured out Instagram, at 54yrs young lol, and found the Preloved Reloved Beyond Cancer. Had a read through a few parts but found a piece on cold capping very good. I took a picture

Thought it may be useful as extra information for others on here. 🩷

This is the only reason I’m cold capping @lumpybyebye! Before I knew I would be having Docetaxel I wasnt going to bother, but when I saw it could be permanent hair loss I thought I had to do everything I could. What a bugger, eh

@nastynork I’m certain they’re used to tears on the first day. I cried on my first day and it didn’t phase them at all.

The anticipation is horrid. Psychologically, you will feel better getting through the first treatment.

My advice to you would be to be well hydrated- I wasn’t on my first treatment and I think that made me feel really quite rotten (headache and stomach). Take water with you too.

I also should have eaten more before going.

They are the two changes I made after first week and they seem to be working for me.

Sending love and wishing you the best for tomorrow. X

Thank you @buggeringon. I am dreading it but also just want to get started. The tips from everyone on here have been great to feel empowered that we can do things to have some control over. Like hydrating. I bought one of those motivational water bottles and have had 2 and a half litres today. I feel like i have wee’d and cryed most of that out though . I will try to hit 3l tomorrow. I dont think i will get much sleep tonight.

Good luck today @nastynork and someone else starting today I think - my phone is rubbish and won’t let me scroll back
I started Tuesday @nastynork and I had tears, they were all lovely and afterwards I wondered what I had been worried about it’s just the anxiety and the not knowing what will happen!
Thinking of you with lots of love :two_hearts:
Keep drinking and let us know how you get on x

A new day, a new side effect…

Swollen, itchy hands and itchy feet…hand and foot syndrome. Chemo nurse advised plenty of moisturiser and elevation.

Sigh

@dilly I am crazy itchy aswell!! I’ve been taking an antihistamine and moisturising, but when I went in for PICC flush yesterday the lovely nurse there said it’s ok to use some mild steroid cream if needed as well and also gave me some Pliazon Plus cream which was quite soothing last night

Oh poor you too @rbf x
Mine started a couple of days ago with an itchy finger…now my calves are itching too! I woke up to swollen hands and was like ‘What fresh hell is this?!’

I couldn’t get my wedding rings off at first, but finally did with lots of hand cream, so I guess they will be off for the duration now.

That did make oi laff, @lumpybyebye!!

Phew, just been catching up on everyone’s posts as I seem to have missed a few days.

I must say, its a great bunch of amazing ladies you all are, and what becomes clear is that we all have shit days, but we all get through them, often with a little help from this group. Yayy to us

I’ve had a few appointments this week starting with the port fitting on Monday. Mine was fitted under the skin on the arm, close to my armpit. It’s been sore since but I’m noricing it less each day.

Tuesday was a makeup workshop with LGFB which was really good. I couldn’t say that many of the products suited me, but I got some really great skincare advice as, apart from soap and water and a bit of moisturiser, I didn’t have a skuncare routine. So I’ve bought some products mostly from the Simple brand, and my skin feels so much better just after a couple of days.

Weds was a blood test and that went rather badly with the nurse managing to go through my vein so my arm started to swell up and it stung a lot, so she had to stop and use my hand instead. This was all on the port fitted side due to the lymph node remival on my other side, so I had a luttle cry after that one. It was still swollen after and the bruise today is like nothing I’ve seen before so I’m hoping future appts will use the port. The nurse was really quite abrupt too so not a great experience.

And today, I’ve been for a wig fitting which I felt was one of the more weird things about this journey! Lady was really lovely and I got to try different styles. I settled on the one pictured below although she’s goung to order a shade lighter as it was a little dark for me. I won’t order unless I really need it (please work cold cap!) but I feel much calmer about the potential loss of hair now. Lastly, I’ll be getting my gair chopped later to shoulder length, to hopefully help with cold capping.

I hope everyone has a good day/week xx

Today’s positives: went into work for 4 hours
Today’s negatives: ate something containing brie before remembering not supposed to have that during chemotherapy :flushed:

Hi all, well i survived my first chemo. I did have a big cry arriving at the hospital car park and another in the chair as the nurse explained what would happen on the day. My blood pressure was high as expected but they accepted my weeks worth of normalish at home readings. I cold capped and found it ok, though the outercap kept riding up so not convinced it will work. It was no worse than going outside with wet hair in the winter. I was home by 2pm. I went for a walk. I feel tired, headache and occasional waves of nausea, otherwise ok. I will see what the next few days bring. Thanks to all for the words of encouragement yesterday. We are all in together. I hope everyone is doing ok. xx

Hi everyone.
My first day of chemo today too. Epirubicin and chlorophosphamide

I feel really really sick. Had an extra anti nausea tablet and it’s helping a bit, I had assumed I wouldn’t feel sick for a couple of days as the hospital gave me some tablets before the chemo started that they said would last for a couple of days
