Hello
I have not posted for some time as I have been through chemo and rads and have coped very well.I am now feeling great but have an appointment for a follow up mammograph on Friday and a years follow up clinic appointment 3 weeks later. After being so confident in the past I am now feeling very apprehensive about the results of the mammograph and the examination at the clinic. Is this a normal feeling or am I just being paranoid? Could anyone tell me if it is common to have BC in the other breast a year after the discovery of cancer.
Best wishes to you all
Janet
I think it is quite normal to be worried… many of us went to a clinic thinking we were healthy and found out we had cancer, now we know we’ve had cancer and we have to go to a clinic…
I had my first check up a few weeks back (they don’t mammo every year at this hospital) and was surprised how apprehensive I was, but all was well, as it is for most people.
I think the cancer robs us of confidence and we always have the pesky ‘what if’ fairy whispering in our ears. Hopefully, and most likely, everything will be fine for you
Hi Jaybee
You me both I could have writen your post. I have my first annual mammo on 6/10/11.
The positive for me when I spoke to lovely receptionist told her my fears & she has arranged for me to see radiologist after to get result there & then. What a relief, going on holiday Thursday so focusing on that at moment. Apparently you can be called to either of the 2 local hospitals in Oxford but only the 1 I’m going to pre-arrange to see the radiologist; I’d be in a right mess if I had to wait for a letter.
I hope next year I won’t be as concerned.
Big hugs, please let us know how you get on.
I’m coming up 4 years, and, once the summer is out of the way wind up nicely to my annual manos due late Oct/early Nov. You’re right cancer takes the boob and the confidence goes with it!
I know what you mean, I am waiting for the results of my 1st annual mammogram, I had it on the 31st August. Fortunately I didn’t have a run up to it, as I was seeing my BCN for a genetics clinic and she asked if I had had my mammo, so they fitted me in, and saved me a second visit. I am hoping no news is good news.
I keep winding my self up, as I had breast conserving surgery I still have some breast tissue left in my dodgy boob, and it has been aching a bit recently. Partly psychosomatic and partly not being as rigorous with my stretches as I should be. I have to keep telling my self that it will all be OK. I don’t have my follow up with the consultant until November.
Jen
I had 2nd post surgery mammogram on 9th August and have not had the result yet I am hoping that this means everything is ok. I got a special quick result after the last one because I was so anxious so I don’t really know how long a normal result takes.
Hi Ladies,
Reading through this thread understand all the anxieties the BC brings and the annual mamms. I was DX last September and had MX/DEIP Flap and was told at the time BC doesn’t jump from one breast to the other, the op was very successful and by May this year feeling confident having had second recon (nipple) which looks great. All going along tickertyboo when three weeks later after seeing my BS for 6 monthly check, I found another lump in my good breast, upshot was I had another primary in my right breast and had to have another MX in June. I was told this was a chance in a million for this to happen and I was just incredibly unlucky. I’m recovering well (had LD Flap) but left me rather shaken as you can imagine. The point of this is, it is so rare for you to get the BC in both breasts according to my BS, so please try not to worry about the check up, I’m sure everything will be absolutely fine, it’s so normal to worry about these things, as REVCAT says it’s the pesky fairy nagging in your ear.
Take care all of you, Chrissyx
Hi Ladies
Thank you very much for your kind input.I am still apprehensive about tomorrow but feel more confident knowing that I am not the only one to feel this way.
Thank you all again
Janet
I have no faith in mammograms as my cancer did not show up. I will insist on ultra sound as that is what picked up on the invasive lobular carcinoma.
Hi Janet
So good to see you online again was wondering how you were.
Very pleased to hear that all went well for you.
All the best for the mammogram today and results to follow.

Janet, hope it went OK today.
I posted earlier that I was waiting for my results, and good news, I got my letter today and to quote ‘the mammograms taken show no evidence of breast cancer’, so that is a relief, hope you all get the same result as me.
Jen
Hi Jen
That’s wonderful news for you. I bet you are so relieved! Dont have mine until next March…chris x
Cheers, Jen, that is great news.
Chrissie, tell me I am not going totally crazy-are you wearing a different hat this evening?
Dear you are so confident and i also hope that after this mamograph you will feel better and excited about your results. i wish you Get well soon.
Hi
sorry I did not see this post until today (Feb 11th 2012). I wear lots of hats, and I think that beret (pink one) I was wearing on going out to the shops I think. I think the other thing I had on my head was a fascinator as that was taken at my sons wedding. I do wear a lot of hats though, they keep my head warm!!! Jen, glad that your results were good, if I havent said before, which I think I have…doh!!! It is now February 2012 and I have my mammogram (1st year) on March 1st, then on the 28th March I have my appointment with the onc for the results. I dont think I will be able to wait that long, I know I will be anxious about it, just wonder if I can get them sooner to put my mind at rest. I know, this is going to be an ongoing thing, worrying about results etc. so I should get used to it. x
Hello
Wish Id seen this the other day.
I also have my first mamo coming up end of Feb, and am feeling nervous. i haveni’t had hosp app for a while & I get v nervous in waiting rooms -always want to do a runner, but of course never do! Having restless nights thinking about it all You are not alone in this, I will have everything crossed for both of us & anyone else going through the same.

Hi
Whiterabbit, I want to do a runner as well, get very agitated in waiting rooms. If I could just go in and then see someone straight away it would be great, but it isn’t like that. Oh well, only a few more weeks to wait. Good luck anyone else in the same boat! x
just relax white rabbit… Love you
Hi All
Went for my anniversary mammo first post op today. Didn’t have to wait long which is good , as I could feel anxiety coming on.
I have to say it was my most uncomfortable mammo yet, but I guess a small price to pay. Thought I might get results same day, but am now back,in the waiting room for a couple of weeks.
My OH took me for some retail therapy after, then a naughty large glass of wine.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts, sometimes I disappear for a while when things get scarey- it is my way of coping
Thinking of you too Chrissy & all.
Will let you know my results either way.
Thnx for listening.
Love Alis

Hi, Went for my first mammogram after treatment last March. It did hurt more than the others have, butg not that bad. I just had just got myself seated in the waiting room when she called my name, which was good as I do not like waiting around. It is a nice sunny day and warm, so cheered me up some. She said that I would get a letter soon with the results, but I really do not like waiting…this is scary! xx
