I’m booked on the Penny Brohn Open Programme thingy on 22-24 March. Anyone else on that one?
I haven’t been before and am quite looking forward to seeing what it’s all about. I intend keeping an open mind and I hope there will be something that I can relate to, though my natural cynicism might tap me on the shoulder occasionally.
Hi CM Hope you have a great time - I really enjoyed it and would recommend it highly. It’s a very serene place - lovely staff, and our group of 10 (mainly bc ladies) got on really well. Lots of people from here have been, and so far I have only seen positive feedback. I’m a bit of a natural sceptic too, but I found all the relaxation and meditation techniques really helpful. Plus the food is wonderful.
Sue - it does tend to get booked up, but they also have quite a lot of cancellations.
Rachel - it’s the Penny Brohn Cancer Centre in Bristol.
Hi CM I’m going next Mon 5/3.On the 3 night programme.I had tried to book but it was full. I got a call offering me a short notice cancellation. Looking forwards to it have heard good reports. J xx
I have sent a booking form but there are no places available for the 3 and 5 day courses until at least June. However, they will allow you to register for cancellations.
I am looking forward to the visit at some time in the near future.
I visited their “Cancerpoint” which is a drop in where you see a doctor and a cousellor and get advice on anything at all. It was a half-day and they were great. I went between surgery and chemo when I had my recurrence and I was greatly impressed. Have thought about the longer events but never been. I’m srue they are excellent.
I did the Living Well Course in February (before I started my rads) and really enjoyed the whole experience…So much so, have booked the 3 day Bristol Approach for June when I will meet up again with a lovely lady I met on the Living Well, and we have kept in touch!
It is very relaxing and there is such a feeling of calmness and serenity about the place! I would definitely recommend a visit!
As part of our 30th Anniversary celebrations, on Saturday 26th March we are opening our doors and welcoming the public to come and join us to learn more about the life changing care we provide people with cancer and their loved ones.
Throughout the day we will be running tours of the Centre and gardens. There will be talks on living well with cancer, gentle exercise and nutrition along with cooking demonstrations, massage, relaxation sessions and much more. Bring family and friends - all are welcome.

Unfortunately I had to pull out, as I was not happy leaving my daughter for a couple of days as she has not been very well and I know I wouldn’t have got the best from the course but would have just been worrying.
Hopefully I’ll be able to book myself on another one later on, treatments allowing. Disappointing, but sometimes these things happen, I just feel bad about messing them about.
Is the open day only “Open” to people who have booked as Kirsty has given a number to “book on to the open day”. I was rather hoping I could just turn up as I’m not sure yet if I will be able to get there.
Hello Buzzy I’m so sorry I didnt see your message in time, it was a great day at Penny Brohn Centre and wish we’d got there earlier. I think they were encouraging booking as the booking form had info about donations too and it was a bit of a fund raiser as well as awareness day.
We had a superb tour around the Centre including experiences - music therapy and a 10 min meditation - guided imagery. The relaxer chairs are wonderful ! It was good for my hub to see and feel it for himself and know that there is support for carers as well as those affected by cancer directly.
I’m sure there will be more and i will feed back the uncertainty their advertising creating regarding booking - I felt the same and had emailed as particularly wanted to go on the tour and didtn now best time to arrive. They have a new fund raiser who organised this and they are so appreciative of feedback. I was also unsure about making the donation when I did one of the courses - How much to give ? as they are all “free” but obviously very expensive to provide. adn mentioned that to one of the trustees who spoke to us. They used to have a “suggested donation” for each of the courses (the one day ones were always free though), but I think they raise more funds making it open.
FREE sessions - every Thursday morning , demonstration cookery , so that would be a good chance to see it all., visit the shop, take a walk in the gardens etc We could meet up there ! and eat in the restaurant. VERY healthy eating.
They have redone all the info to and its all on the website. Kirsty

The latest development for this fantastic organisation is to take their philosophy to as many as possible. They have people from all over the world coming to Bristol but know of course many cannot travel even short distances.
