Hey everyone
I’m 3 weeks post lumpectomy and SNLB surgery and am starting to slowly get back into weights (very light). I’ve been eating pretty healthy since diagnosis in October but have gone abit haywire over Christmas:sweat_smile:
Does anybody have any good health and wellbeing/fitness related podcasts you would recommend and any other fitness related tips/advice post surgery? When I need motivation I’d normally just get back into the gym lifting as heavy as physically possible
Looking at ways to stay as physically and mentally fit as possible

Hey @katie91
Great to hear you’re getting back to the weights - sounds like you’re doing well!
I went a bit crazy on fun foods over Christmas after eating pretty well in the week after surgery and I could massively tell the difference. Rubbish skin, feeling sluggish etc.
I’ve found Rosamund Dean to be very motivating. She’s a British journalist who was diagnosed with BC five years ago at the age of 40 and has since then made a lot of lifestyle changes. She has loads of articles and podcast episodes available online and a book called “Reconstruction”, all focusing on relatable wellness rather than rigid rules and restrictions. I found her episode on the Breast Cancer Now podcast to be particularly interesting and the podcast in general is great. I tend to watch it on YouTube as I find seeing the host and guests makes it more personal.
Hope this helps! x

I was thinking the same thing. 2 weeks post mastectomy and axilla node clearance and know I can’t do much but used to do bootcamp 3 times a week and running and dog walking and going stir crazy not doing any of those things!

Hey @rubytuesday! It really effects you doesn’t when you can’t just do what you would normally do! I swim quite alot too but I’ve still got 3 weeks left until I can swim, i assume the same for yoga too maybe.
How are you finding recovery? Xx
Its not been too bad, just frustrating because I can do so little. Cant wait to be able to tie up my own hair! My partner and friends are making me rest, have done all the cooking and dog walking which I find hard as stubbornly independent! I have been going for short walks each day but stopped the last couple of days as its too icy and I dont want to fall over!
In a way its a good time of year for vegetating, but I am over the enforced rest now!

You’re welcome! x
I had surgery on 18th December. Yes I had the crappy moods too with the sugary fun and I also noticed when I went overboard with it, the site of the lumpectomy started throbbing. I honestly believe it was telling me off!
Just wondering how long do you have to wait post op for being able to swim? My meditation yoga class (blanket and relaxation based!) starts back next Thursday and really hoping I can go to that at least as think I need the headspace atm.
Hey @joodles My consultant said another 3 weeks so that will make me 6 weeks post lumpectomy, he didn’t want me to risk infection. I’m desperate to get back to yoga too, I’m going to ask at my appointment next week when I can get back at that too! When was your op x

Something I just thought of that I find inspiring is the film Brittany Runs a Marathon.
Not factual or cancer related, but a very funny and moving tale of a woman with various issues trying her best to improve them.

Hey @joodles Ahh I’ve got everything crossed for you the waiting is just the worst isn’t it!! I had a phone call today with the consultant and he gave me the all clear for yoga! I had my lumpectomy on 16th December too so hopefully they will give you the go ahead. Keep your mind busy this week, Thursday will be here before you know it
