It’s a bit of an outdoorsy day for me today, I’ve been out with Daisy for a quick half hour round the nature reserve, and now I’m about to go on an expedition into the unknown with my U3A walking group. It was only 2 degrees C earlier, so I have my handwarmers at the ready, coffee in the pub afterwards.
Hope all the willows are having a good day, last day today Helena. Catch you all later when I’m clean and defrosted again!
Good day Willows, hope you’re all having a good day. What a morning I had! Got to docs 40 mins early and bit seen 20 Minutes before my appointment, good start I was thinking. Walked in, what can I do for you today? She asked. I replied that I’d received a message via the pharmacist to make an appointment to see her. She looked quite cross, said oh, medication review then, everything Ok? I said yes except that I’d stopped taking the Calceos because might be coincidence but I’d had two teeth break and reading the enclosed leaflet it said, warning, if taken for longer than two weeks may cause tooth decay! She said, speak to your dentist about that, it’s for your bones and you need to take it. Told her that my left eye was permantly watering, she told me to go to the opticians. Came out feeling I’d wasted her time do went fir breakfast, got some shopping, got on bus home and bus hit a lorry. No one hurt but driver had to phone bus depot, wait for someone to come, long delay etc. Finally got home cold, tired and grumpy, no keys in handbag. Phoned himself who was on the bus to town. Dumped shopping in garden, got bus back to town, got off bus, found my keys in my jacket pocket! I think I need a vino but Ive settled for a cuppa. It’s been trying to snow in and off all day, hope you’re all warm and cosy, either at home or at work xx
Can I ask you a question? I think most/some of you are taking Adcal? I mentioned this to the doc this morning and asked if it were a better option than the Calceos? She said it was the same thing. I’ve just googled it, and it looks to me like it’s a tablet that you swallow, whereas the Calceos has to be chewed, also the side effects listed for Adacal do not mention tooth decay like the Calceos, plus the Calceos states that you must not drink tea two hours before and after taking it. I think that’s the problem with the Calceos, the crunching it rather than swallowing it. She really wasn’t very nice or approachable this morning, maybe she’s got stuff going on at home.
Just had a group message from my ex colleagues trying to arrange our next night out, and it looks as if now instead if going for dinner on a Friday evening we’re opting for afternoon tea on a Saturday at The Crazy Bear. I love that place, it’s soooo decadent (google it and have a Peep) and the afternoon tea there is supposed to be yummy, served with champers of course. On Wednesday nights it’s half price champagne night, and as it’s right next to where we used to work we spent many a Thursday at work with thick heads xx
Thanks Rubycat, I’ll try sucking… Yes, The Crazy Bear is fabulous, I’d love to stay the night but it’s so expensive. Had many a good night in there, often nearly ending up falling in the swimming pool many a time.
Helena, hope you enjoy your meal tonight with your friend, you deserve it, just hope you’re not too knackered to enjoy it it to the full.
Tomorrows appointment is with the specialist physiotherapist to work on my cording, which since the lady at the lympthodema clinic massaged it has been extra painful.
So sad about Tara Palmer Tompkinson, she was mad as a bag of frogs but I so liked her (in fact, made me like her more) always felt that although it looked like she had everything she was lonely, RIP xx
Sue, I’m interested that they did recommend a multivitamin/ mineral, usually you get told there’s no evidence it’s beneficial for the general public. So did the dietician say why the advice was different for us?
My husband was advised by his optician to take a vitamin pill to protect his eyes as his macula is showing its age ( much like the rest of us I guess!) There are specific vitamins for eyes, and the RNIB website recommends taking them, but said you need to check with your GP if you take other medication in case they interact. But when he rang the GP she was very dismissive. It’s hard to know what to do when the professionals don’t agree, but you’d think the optician should be up to date with the latest research.
Lesley, that sounds like the day from hell, why didn’t the pharmacist explain it was a routine review? Though your GP sounds spectacularly uninterested anyway. Your drama with the keys, I have done that, except I didn’t have to catch buses, but drove back into town, trailed everywhere asking if a set of keys had been handed in, only to find them in the lining of my coat. But to have that happen after the bus crash drama as well, just a dreadful day, and one that needs a glass of wine or two to recover from.
Helena, well done for getting through four days. Those big girl pants obviously do the trick, maybe I should borrow them…
I’m shattered, just done a hilly six miles with my walking group, and still have only had a banana for lunch. And the spag bol is simmering on the stove and driving me nuts…Don’t think we’ll be eating late tonight!
Sue, what calcium and Vit D do you take? and do you crunch it or do you swallow it? Re my earlier post, teeth versus bones, plus unhelpful moody GP! Feel like I’m between a rock and a hard place. Gave up on my BCN, now thinking Ive got to give up on gp. Think I may speak to pharmacist as she’s brilliant. Feeling pretty low, as never bothered gp for years, now I feel like I’m being a nuisance, even though she requested the appointment, not me, dont think I’ll be asking for an appointment anytime soon, unless it’s life or death situation.
Crikey Lesley what a day! Get that bottle open and have a large one. Can you see a different Dr at your surgery? That’s awful service they should always be compassionate however they’re feeling it’s not professional.
WELL DONE HELENA, you did it have a fab day off tomorrow xxxxxx
Beth I hope your having a better day
Sending you all lots of love Clair xxx
the moving on course sounds really interesting. As I’ve mentioned before, the one around here isn’t until June which to me seems too far away, and it looks like they only do two a year in total. It’s also back in the hospital where I had my rads which is an hour away minimum so all in all it is all conspiring against me! We’re also hoping to be in Toronto in June which is our rearranged holiday from last year and I can’t wait to go.
Facinating what sue quoted about dairy products and taking vitamins. Worth a conversation with the BCC when I’m in the clinic in April. Not heard from my BCC since October and even though the radiotherapist emailed her to check up on me post rads (as I was suffering a bit), no one bothered to speak to me to see how I was. That’s my biggest frustration in all of this…there’s no one to speak to other than the nurses on here. My GP is lovely but on the two occasions I’ve toddled off to see her to ask a question or check something, she tells me to speak to the BCN or oncology nurse (don’t have one of them) so I’m passed from pillar to post and it’s frustrating. So now I just don’t bother. These little niggles, trapped wind, achy bones and disturbed sleep are all things I’m just living with until I’m in clinic in a few months.
i don’t even know why I’m in clinic in April - is it just to check up how things are healing? theres nothing scheduled with oncology so assume I won’t be seeing them again. The 1st anniversary of my diagnosis is August bank holiday so I’m assuming I’ll have first mammogram check after that date. No one has actually said!!!
today for the first time since surgery I’ve exceeded 10,000 steps on my Fitbit!!! Knackered now!! Currently at 11505 and I’m not moving now until it’s time to go bed lol and fear I may have to crawl upstairs. Sore breast now but I’m happy I’ve done it, it feels like a little achievement.
Heating engineer coming tomorrow PM so it’ll be washing my hair over the sink in a bowl of water tomorrow morning with water from the kettle. Brrrrr
Anyway, just checking in again you lovely willows.
I have read back a bit & have posted elsewhere, but cruise wifi keeps falling over.
Beth - how frustrating about getting support from your team, so annoying. I got my first mammo appointment about a month before the first anniversary of diagnosis. The radiographer did say to me, always to contact them if for any reason any subsequent appointments don’t arrive.
Sue - so interesting to hear about the moving forward course & thanks for posting.
Lesley - crikey, what a day!
Helena - hope things are ok with your OH, these things can be so difficult.
Dizzy, Clair, Charys, Ruby, Delly - hi!
Anyway, arrived at Milford Sound, NZ this am, cold but beautiful.
Now, just remembered I’ve got to take my tamox - yay!
Well I have been back for about an hour from going out with my best friend for dinner. Had a lovely evening the food was fab and the company amazing, we celebrated with a bottle of wine, naughty on a school night well for her anyway as i am not a work tomorrow but it was a special occasion.
What a week, i have achieved another of my milestones, done four days this week, and will do my last one next week when I get back to my normal hours of 25 a week.but have to confess I am knackered now and am really thankful that I am not in work til Monday now.
Helena, I don’t think they have any way of knowing how successful the radiotherapy has been. If the tumour has supposedly been removed, the radiotherapy is meant to be killing off stray cells that may be left, but they’re microscopic anyway.
It’s different when they use radiotherapy to shrink a tumour prior to surgery, but even then they’d need to do a scan to see how much was left.
I guess the follow up is just to check on healing and to pick up on any ongoing side effects of rads. Anyway, I’m not complaining, because these appointments have been in short supply, but getting two in a week seems like overkill, when I don’t really have any issues. When I did, I couldn’t get an appointment for love nor money.
One hot flush in the night, yes, just ONE! Once I managed to get in a position that wasn’t painful for my shoulders I went back to sleep and slept for five hours, bliss, progress. Throat feels like I’ve gargled with broken glass, but apart from that and just a tiny headache feeling ok. Off to see about cording later.
Catch up later. Helena, Glad you enjoyed your meal, enjoy your day off, rest, don’t spend the day cleaning xx
Has anyone had any contact with Delly via private message at all? I know sometimes she takes time out, but never usually this long, Im getting concerned xx
Morning lovelies,
hope your all having a lovely Friday . It’s absolutely freezing here and I’m wrapped up in a blanket heating on. I’m feeling poorly today so stayed home ,I only had about an hours sleep last night, terrible stomach pain and pressure but taken my new painkillers and stomach protect tablet so hopefully it’ll settle and I can catch up on my sleep. Xxx
Delly we miss you <3 xxx
Ohh I too suffer with trapped wind.!!!
Catch you later xxxxx
