Sept 2016 rads

That’s great you have your appointment through finally Sue. We must be October or will break the world record for the longest wait! Probably a stupid question but I didn’t ask yesterday. Is the CT scan for just the breast or whole body? Xx

Hi Jane cy scan is just boob area where you having rads they will mark you up with the lovely tattoos I have 3 one each side of each boob and one in middle it’s where they take measurements to do rads then just mark you with a pen too but that washes off tattoos sting a little but only for few seconds, they do rads to whole boob not just where the lump was as I thought they did!they shout all these numbers out but it’s just measurements for position you will be in for rads it’s a little weird but you won’t feel anything good luck Jackie x

It’s strange you don’t do holding your breath thing does any of you other ladies do it??hope you are having a nice couple days off before you are zapped again lol Jackie x

Thanks Jacks for letting me know about CT. I wondered where the ratios would go. I’m a leftie too and have asked about breaths but so far no answers. Hopefully I’ll no more when I meet again with Oncologist xx

Good morning everyone,

I’m barging in on the Sept thread as I go into my last rads up to the 12th, 2 more regular then 4 boosters from Weds.

The CT scan is to make sure they line up the measurements with the tumour site for when you start rads, It’s straightforward, just the staying still is the hardest but really really straightforward! They’ll draw on you again but just lining everything up. I think the unknown is the anxious part, waiting and wondering what it will all be like. Once you get started the time really does go quickly, I can’t believe I’m now on the last stretch.

Also the holding breath is if your BC is on the heart side, the left. Mine is the right so no holding the breath but my sister in law’s was the left so she was told to but they will explain this. I have found that most of the staff are really helpful and will answer any of your questions…we just gotta remember to ask!

I hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Kate x

Hi, just to put my twopence worth in - mine was left side but I didn’t have to breath holds (finished mine 16th August). Not sure why some lefties have to and some don’t?  Lady having hers at same place same time as me also left side did.  Maybe it depends on the position of the tumour and how close it was to the heart, all I know is I was glad I didn’t have to.  Good luck to you all still having them or about to start, soon be over, it is true, once you get started you do seem to get them over and fine with quickly xx

Hi. I had my CT and planning appt last week and start 21st Sept. 4 and half weeks treatment. Got my tattoos and they’re not so bad xx

Hi ladies, the breath holding depends on the position of your heart on the CT scan ,if it is not close to the target area then you don’t need to .I had left side BC but didn’t have to.

Hi all. Off to planning meeting for radiotherapy tomorrow. Lumpectomy was on the left so have been busy turning blue as I practice trying to hold my breath - phew! just read on here that some don’t have to do this so I’m intrigued and a tiny bit hopeful as well. Someone told me that you can have an ‘invisible’ tatoo which can be seen under UV light instead of one that you can see - anyone heard of this? Will update how things go tomorrow. Night night everyone for now.

Doh! Tattoo not ratio, ****** spellcheck! By the time we get to October Sue we will have actually of knowledge from you lovely August and September lot. I wonder how many of us have started deep breathing reading this thread. My CT scan is provisionally booked for the 14th, pending Oncotype result being both back and also giving a no chemo answer. I’ve been told will be at least three weeks from then till Rads start.
Kary I hope you’re feeling brighter. My first G&T tonight after finishing tablets. Truly delicious xx

Argh! Wealth of knowledge not actually!! Xx

First session of radiotherapy over and done with x really strange laying there with machine whirring and knowing I am being irradiated but feeling nothing! Staff were lovely, put me at my ease x back tomorrow morning x hope you are all doing well xx

Well done Bonsai. First one over wooohoooo. I know everyone is different but remember to take it easy. I was exhausted after week one. Started week two today. Look after yourself.

Also asked about the holding breath thing today. They said it depends on the treatment. Where I’m bringing treated they don’t do the hold your breath but other places have different ways of delivering radiotherapy and involves holding your breath. Not very clear but I don’t have to do it.

1st one over with 22 to go woo hoo x

Hi, I’m barging in too, I’m 8 down 7 to go. It’s really quite easy, you soon get used to going in every day! As everyone says it’s just great to get on with it at last. I’m beginning to feel quite tired now, but boob only just slightly pink. Hope it stays that way! Good luck to all. x

Hi Jacks, I had a really busy day ending with rads at 4pm, by the time I had driven home I was really zapped. Exhausted, felt sick, hubby cooked dinner (doesn’t normally cook but managed egg & chips!) Felt better after that but very tired. Boob getting red but not sore, same as you. How are you feeling? Yoga tomorrow morning so will get on with the exercise, can’t give in! xx

Well done to all you ladies working through your rads. It’s good to hear how you’re getting on. I seem to be lagging behind as not got planning meetiIng until 21st!! Think def oct rads for me at this rate!

Only a brief post as just in from work and shattered. Xx

Evening everyone hope you are all well I have had my 5 the session today feel a little tired boob a little pinky/red but ok.Iam getting stabbing sharp pains in breast not being treated and at side of breast been assured it’s nothing to do with rads , is anyone else having these pains don’t know if it’s a side effect of anostazole ive been taking for 2 1/2 weeks take care everyone Jackie x

Hi Ladies, I had number 10 today, also saw chief radiographer for chat to see how it’s going, she said boob was really good hardly pink. I’ve been on anastrozole since 15th June and I get stab you pains too also lists of aching especially at night, shows it’s working I suppose! Just the tiredness getting worse each day. Still won’t be much longer, 5 more then I’m done! Hope those of you that haven’t started get there soon. It goes quite quickly then.

Hi all 6down 9 to go ? must say I feel better than I expected not too tired boob ok slightly redder but not sore let’s hope it carries on like this.

Isnt it strange how everyone seems to be starting hormone tablets at different times I was originally told that I would finish all treatment then start hormone tabs but then I was told to start them 2weeks before rads started also on vitamin d and c tablets as when I had bone scan was told I had osterpinia which could turn to brittle bone so not sure what’s causing night sweats swollen hands and achy good boob!!! the things we go through ?I’m coming back as a man ? Hope everyone doing well keep us posted on here it’s good to share our feelings and tips help each other along this long journey Jackie x
