First chemo done and it was fine. Had the cannula in and then sat there chatting while the different drugs and flushes went in. It was all very calm and organised. Apt was 10am and i was finished by 12.30. Had a cup of tea and biscuits during it too. Came home and had chicken soup!! Just feel a bit tired now. Cassie it will be fine. The nurse is so good and reassuring. Sending you a big hug xx
Oh Jo hope you are ok. Take care with the burn. Take it easy xx
Thank u, burn is settling- silly thing to do, skin must be more sensitive
Good plan Chasanddave, I may try that party trick. Not easy to get imy wig back on looking ok without a mirror though so it could backfire! And not sure I’m quite ready to show my spiky head to school mums (and dads ) yet.
I watched Dr Foster and that got my heart racing, as well as distracting me. Then moved onto Cold Feet. Could probably stay up a while but I need to save some tv (I don’t find tv very easy to watch- it doesn’t always hold my attention) for the next few days. My chemo strategy for this round is to get up each day, shower and go for a brisk 30 min walk and then watch all the tv I’ve missed in last few years. We’ll see if it works. Any suggestions as to what to watch will be gratefully received?
sleep tight all
jo xx
Well done Wednesday people - and thank you for sharing wig pranks and wobbles! I had an interesting afternoon of chemo - ruined one vein tried another then was allergic to the dressings as blooming usual - the nurse put the epirubicin in slower and it didn’t hurt this time though still got a horrible head rush with the other drugs. Just finished when got a dull chest pain which I thought I would mention before driving an hour home - so had to stay for ecg, X-ray bloods etc - did manage to escape home but lost that nice window at home before the yuk kicks in so had to go straight to bed. - and still with chest pain … but is not bad. Had a funny moment when they weighed me today as I knew I had put on some weight - they didn’t believe it and insisted on checking it again- rude!! Haha maybe this eating everything I fancy needs to slow down - having said that I had a small fish and chips whilst feeling sick which is the new normal! Have a restful night folks and hope the symptoms don’t bite x PS telly recommendations are the good wife if you didn’t see it on telly - catastrophe on ch4 is available in total but is a bit rude and I am watching house of cards and the crown on Netflix x
Meant to say I was given a different antiemetic this time as was sick several times last time is called Akynzeo and is supposed to last for 3 days and is a combination drug which takes the place of both the ondansetron and the metoclopramide- I still can have bucastem if I need something more. Haven’t been sick though am still nauseous so maybe this new combination is a fit… hope everyone has a good day today especially those who are just joining the chemo train x
Mrs meow, jow, Ali, and Ck - well done getting through another chemo day! Hope you are resting and not too yucky. Remember, if you feel like doing nothing, do nothing.
I find I can’t watch TV as I can’t concentrate and it doesn’t hold my attention. After day 2,3 and 4 of being a zombie I’ve found reading books the best pastime. Oh and soaking in a bath with a couple of handfuls of Epsom salts to detox and try to keep those aches and pains away. I can spend 2 hours in the bath!
As far as to recommendations go: try outlander or once upon a time… lots of episodes and quite addictive!
My anti nausea meds wore off on Monday - now left with horrible nausea and diarrhoea has hit again. Yucky. I feel so sick I’m constantly drooling leaving wet patches on my pillow! Less tired now though(day 6). Can’t wait to feel “normal” again. Struggling to find any drinks appealing and food, well, a cheese pasty was all that appealed yesterday. I had to go to the shop specifically to buy it. It’s like morning sickness all over again!
Tiny patch of stubble on top of my head now but mainly peachy. Can’t believe how normal bald has become!
Good luck today’s ladies - Cassie and vee - you will be well looked after.
Take care, Cath xxx
Cathysid when my nausea lasted longer last time I rang and they gave me more antiemetics to take - and have given me more this time in case the pattern repeats I had at least five days of meds - hope u get some relief soon nausea is yuk. Last time I found I couldnt look at a screen for 3 days but this time on the different drugs I can (have been messaging since the early hours as my social media is usually my thing) take care and feel much better soon x
Hi how is everyone?
First chemo is fine and dusted I am officially on the chemo train! All went well. Back home now feeling a bit tired but ok.
Cassie x
Hi Sue. Steroids before chemo started not sure how long they last for. Then start injections on Monday for 5 days.
Yes got some stuff lined up to watch on tv. I really like Outlander which has 3 series on Amazon prime!
Cassie x
Well done Cassie. Take it easy and take all your meds. I have been given 7 days anti sickness to use when the 3 days finish if i need them.
Day 2 and i have been ok! Up, showered and dressed by 9. Took my tablets and had breakfast. Made dinner for tonight and tomorrow. Sat and nattered with my auntie and went to M and S for a few bits and treated my daughters head for nits - the joys of going to an all girls school!! I’ve Just had tea and sitting down. I have sucked lots of sweets, had jelly, did my mouthwash and drank lots. So a bit jittery, a dry mouth and a bit tired but otherwise ok. THANK YOU GOD xx
Great to hear Ali! Glad you’ve had a good day.
I don’t actually have many meds. Just to anti sickness to take if I need them. Then I have the injections starting Monday but that’s all. Not sure how long the effect of the steroids today will last so I’m expecting the crash any second just in case. Just started to get a dry mouth but drinking plenty to flush it all through.
Cassie x
Hi Cassie, they gave me steroids and anti sickness for today, tomorrow and Saturday. Just phone your clinic number and ask them should you have had more? Have you got some sweets to suck? They really help with the dry mouth? I also bought biotene mouthwash and toothpaste which are great too. Hope you are ok Cassie. Try to rest xc
Hi ladies. Had chemo 2 yesterday and it went fine!
I know I will be anxious before each one.
I got home starving and had fish and rice.
I went to sleep about 12 last night but woke up panicking! Not sure why but chemo does do some strange things to you. So I got up and did some breathing exercises and felt better. Then had some cake and a drink and went back to sleep again until 8am!
Brekkie and then been on the phone all day for business and gossip and didnt get breathless at all.
Had a texting argument with my last date which has finished us off but not to worry, I will concentrate on ME for now!!!
Me and mum had a roast chicken dinner in between!
Rosy cheeks today and feeling hot but no temperature! Chewing on skittles now because dry mouth. Water tastes strange so squeezed some lemon juice into it and tastes better!
I was given Amend again to take one hour before treatment and 2 days at home along with 2 more anti sickness drugs. I was also given back up ones for after the 2 days if needed. Last time I took 2 anyesy but didnt need them. I did hear that if you
were sick when pregnant you are more likely to feel
sickly at chemo!
Had first GCSF injection but took paracetamol first from past experience!
So lets see what tonight and tomorrow bring!
I found that night times were worst on nights 3/4 last cycle but then Im thinking my body should be used to the drugs now and might give me less grief this time round. I know the more cycles the more tired we get so we need to rest up whenever we can and not overdo things from the beginning.
Especially us who have already had lumpectomy before chemo!
My hair nearly all out now and Coconut wax on to protect the follicles abd help towards re growth!
Coconoil online is a good make! Rub the wax on your hands and it turns to oil then rub on! Ny 81 year old mum bless her said you loom fine and youve got your hats and wigs. Thats the support you need. She went through colon cancer 10 years ago and still going strong at 81 and very glam!
So chilling in bed now, probably will dose off and wake up for food in the middle of the night!
Cathysid, didnt you get back up drugs after the 2 days? Ask for Amend too! You look good with a bare head. I hope I do but finding my dark hairs everywhere is a pain.xx
Whitefawn and Ali
Well done for chemo 1. Hope it treats you well!
Lots of sweets to hand!xx
Fairydust, good luck.xx
Mrs Moew
Ive been texting and on phone all day too and Im going cross eyed!!!Time to switch off methinks.xx
Hope we all have a good night settling and the steroids let us relax too!!!xxx
CK glad you have survived your day you have done a lot. Sounds like your lovely Mum is your best partner for now! I had a bad night too and woke up with palpitations and in a dramatic sweat - but all calmed down and I didn’t need to phone. Is interesting that I don’t have injections at all until the second type of chemo following the FEC - sounds like am not missing out as they sound yuk. Different areas do different things. I am still having issues with my wounds are you? Is stopping me driving which is frustrating. I also can’t believe I have put on weight during chemo and still just fancy high carbs and unhealthy stuff - hopefully once the steroids finish this will lessen. Have a better night all and we’ll done the first timers today you seem to be doing amazingly x
Hello ladies, I’ve missed a few days, onc appointment, bloods etc ready for round two tomorrow. Got the all clear on the CT scan which was good news, although the tumour hasn’t shrunk he wasn’t worried yet.
Lovely to come back to the forum and see how well you’ve all been doing and read your funny stories…I’m also struggling with the tv…trying to chill in the day before picking up the girls from school for the evening shift!! Started watching some very random things and I’ve never been so on top of the washing!
Jo, sorry you’ve been poorly too, glad you are feeling better and hope it doesn’t affect your recovery…my cold is taking ages to shift, but they didn’t seem that bothered either thankfully.
My hair is mostly out tho I’m a bit patchy …I abandoned my massive wig and have ordered a short one so I’m in hats (Jeff lives to see another day ?)…Chasanddave I think taking your wig off is so fab, I wouldn’t have the guts to do it…I hide in the corner of the playground lol xx
Good luck fairydust with your bloods tomorrow x
Ali49 you are a warrior managing all that on day 2! X hope the rest of the week treats you well. My 6yr old has a mass of curls, nits are my worst nightmare! Funnily enough neither of my daughters are keen to donate their hair lol such a shame!!!
Take care ladies and have good nights all round xxx
Hi Mrs Meow
Mum is good but will be going home on 17th Oct and wont see her until next year but in a way I can then concentrate on myself as she is 81 and cant get to places which makes me feel bad…but she knew this and doesnt complain but its just me. Have taken her to a trip to the casino though a couple of times:)
My wound healed rather well. I got some diprobase ointment from GP which we can slap on our whole body as our skin gets dryer but it also heals scars and wounds at it has a chemical in ot which helps towards this.
Took paracetamol b4 my first GCSF and no pain
So hopefully same for next 6 days!
I went to sleep at 12 and woke up at 5.30am hungery so croissants and milk it is again and I think I will go back to sleep! Im eating whatever I fancy. Lots of rice and potatoes and fish, chicken and veg. Strange taste for sprouts and sweet carrots at the moment but its on the cancer good food guide which is good! I’ll deal with weight later!
I have stocked up for second chemo and just been sucking on ginger drops first night, skittles and midget gems today and now see what today will bring.x
Michelle
All tbe best for today! So far I’m good on chemo 2, morning of day 3! Just waking up because of steroids but then sleeping after a snack.
My hair mostly out now but wearing satin nightcap to stop remaining going everywhere.
Coconut wax is nice on bare head and all over body too! Wigs are good and boobble hats as its winter.
TV is crap but on in the backgrlund for noise!
Jeremy Kyle is a new discovery. Hahaha??
Have you all had your flu jabs! Need to boim it as near as next chemo as possible
Back to sleep now.zzzxxx
Well done to Ali and Cassie for first chemo. Seems you doing it really well ?
I had chemo yesterday, and felt very tired and dizzy afterward. I found I feel more tired compare with the 1st and 2nd chemo.
And I think I can smell the epirubicin on my nose when I was watching tv, weird !!!
CK, I can’t sleep last night too, went to the toilet few times and had a night sweat, and my body feel funny too.
It’s a blanket day today for me.
Going to have lots of fiber and plumps to avoid constipation…as I found I always have it when I’m on antisickness tablet.
And I’ll take the tips to get some ginger drops, as my mouth taste yuck now…
Cath, how are feeling today ? I hope you are feeling better with your nausea…and have plenty of rest
Jo, I hope your burn heal nicely…
I really like 24 in Netflix with Keaver Sunderland in it, and Homeland. Worth to watch if you like something tense :-))
One day my husband took the boys to Wembley for a match and stay overnight, I had the house to myself and I watched sex and the city box set for 6 hours nonstop with pizza in bed…I really enjoy it lol…
Fairydust, I hope your white blood improve and you can carry on the treatment. Yes onwards and upwards.
Michelle, I gain weight too every time they weight me before chemo I put on a kilogram more…?? I eat a lot when the sickness is gone… I agree with CK, I’ll deal with my weight later
Mrs. Meow, I had vein problem too from my 1st chemo, and still tender now after a month. I had the picc line in… it good stuff to consider if you have vein problem.
Have a restful day everybody xxx
All the best for today Michelle… xx
Hi Vee
The more cycles we have the more tired we will get!
So resting up is good!
Yep, shredded wheat for brekkie which helps although a day or 2 isnt a problem as we take the 2 days anti sickness pils!
Weird is what you can describe these drugs but they are here to help us! X
Hi everyone!
Good luck today Michelle.
Ck - sounds like you are sailing along so far. Hope you are ok after splitting from your date.
Mrs meow - hope your nausea is not too bad.
I think I have eaten every variation of potato this week - it’s the only thing that tastes normal! I’ve had jacket potato, wedges, mash, shepherds pie, even cheese and potato pasty, waffles …I’m managing to eat despite the nausea(which is easing now, day 8) but can’t wait to taste and enjoy my food again.
Cassie and Ali - how are you doing? Ali - you sound like superwoman on steroids! Can’t believe how busy you were the day after chemo!
Vee - hope you feel less dizzy. For the first few days after chemo I feel dizzy and not really on the planet.
Fairy dust - how was the white cell count today? Hope the chemo was able to go ahead, but if not remember they are just trying to look after you.
Well, I’m out of bed! Walked the kids to school, and might even endure school assembly this afternoon so it’s official - day 8 is my turning point back to normality.
Remember to keep a side effects diary so you can report back to oncologist, and so you know what to expect on which day next time round,
Don’t feel guilty resting if you need to rest - it will be better for you in the long run,
Cath xxx
