Glad you’ve turned the corner,Mrs.M., Ali and Ck - and enjoying food again! I find I’m ravenous from around day 8. My partner has been giving me extra large portions and I polish off all the kids left overs too! I really need to get a grip on it or I will be huge by Christmas!
Hair wise I seem to have grown some very fine blonde hair on my head so have a thin fuzz of very fine fluffy stubble. Strangely the very fine hair seems to be resistant to the chemo. As is the resilient leg hair! I still have eyelashes and eyebrows too though they were never the best specimens.
Is anyone else suffering with aching leg muscles at night and hot/cold sweats? I’ve been having the sweats since my last chemo 2 weeks ago - they start on an evening and wake me up on and off all night. I’m wondering if it’s a side effect of he chemo or chemo induced menopausal symptoms(!, I’m only 39!).
Hope you all have a good day,
C x
Morning ladies!
Had a good 7 hours sleep and woken up by my neighbours pushing out their bins! I do mine rhe night before! Brekkie and TV now b4 I get ready to visit Maggies Centre!
Cathysid
Good to see you with a good appetite, think about the weight later, although when I saw you ,you looked perfect! I’m going to Maggies Centre at Christies today for Yoga and Mindfulness. A lady on here is coming over too! Have you been since? My only time since was rhe Look Good Feel Good course and Im now at Beechwood in Adswood on an 8 week course!
I had aches and pains from injections but the hot sweats sound like the menopause coming on as our treatments are very hormone controlled. Maybe asked your BC team.x
Mrs Mepw
I hope you enjoyed that big fat pizza! I was on meat day yesterday! Lamb chops and onions and bacon and eggs. Strawberries and yoghurt in between. My taste buds have turned there nose up at cheese on toast and Cottage Pie this 3rd cycle! Favourite is
MANGO FLAVOURED SOLEROS!!! Yummy!
I’ve been able to get some tape for my wig but will need to see how to stick on as still have hair. I did have some longer strands but cut them off, my hair seems to have fallen out evenly. The lashes are still hanging in there. I hope I grow some longer thicker ones!!!xx
I did take some pics pre and after op but when I went on fb the pics showed up as a recommend and I got worried I might press the wrong button, so deleted them, lol! Omg, the thought of my blue smurf boob all over facebook???
For the ladies who have had surgery the Diprobase ointment I was given from GP for my dry skin is good for healing surgery scars too. My gp told me this and I can clarity it. My 2 scars have healed very well and I think the ointment has contributed to this. Im gutted as I will need another op to clear margins after chemo but hopefully they will heal as well too!
Just remembered I have an gours reflexolgy booked in later today too so its going to be a full day of therapies and relaxation.
I’ve only just had chemo 2 and normally post on the October thread but like to read all you ladies experiences as it lets me know what to expect further on, so thank you for your amazing insights and support it really has helped me! Anyway, I’m 44 and also pre-menopausal and on my first chemo round I also experienced some hot flushes usually in the evening 9-10pm and then again during the night. It was after I’d long come off the steroids days 10-13 of the cycle, I also wondered if it was early menopause but mentioned it to the nurses at my chemo session this week and they said it was normal and that I’d probably still have my period which is due this week. Don’t know if that helps?
Hi Meesh
You will love rhe course and all rhe goodies you come home with. Im meeting a lady from here today and going to get her on rhe course too.
I have a letter from my onc saying that I can have reflexology and massage to give to anyone who does treatments on Cancer patients. Beechwood Cancer Care centre where I have joined locally for 8 week course give reiki, aromatherapy massage and reflexology…so maybe check who and where may do this. If you ask around there are many centres who give complimentary therapies and counselling. I’m most certainly making the most of these places which really do help us get through this.
Morning ladies - you sound wonderfully upbeat today hope you all have good days.
Thanks for the diprobase recommendation that sounds like a good shout - I’m planning an upbeat day today as have found my husband has arranged to get both my parents to meet us at a garden centre later - brill! They are nearly 90 and I’m usually the one helping them out as my siblings are not in the UK so have been upset not to have been able to drive to them much over the last 5 months - am excited to get a lovely hug!! And a big cream cake!
My experience of these flushes and sweats has been that they are dramatic in week 2 post fec - I didn’t have them before diagnosis. I wake up and feel like the tide is coming in from the feet up and have to slather moisturizer as literally feels like dried up instantly! Happens about 3x a night and will hopefully lessen next week.
Have a lovely day all at your various treats - I almost don’t want to say this as seems really ungrateful but being in a small rural hospital area I haven’t been offered a single thing like massage or anything since June - not that my care isn’t fine but am slightly envious of your Maggie’s centers… xx
So glad yo hear that Fairydust. We all need to learn to put ourselves first, it’s not easy though.
I have worked for a week this cycle and visited elderly relatives at the weekend so had no rest. I managed it but it was hard and I won’t be willing to do it again. I was fulfilling a long term holiday cover obligation but this round I am free to do as I please. I may well work on one or two days in my good week but only if I absolutely feel like it. The upside to being so tired was I slept ok last night despite late treatment and the steroid affect.
Enjoy your time off when you feel well and rest when you don’t xx
Meesh and chaffinch - hope his round is kind to you! Keep us posted.
Ck - I haven’t made it to yoga for about 3 weeks. I’ve either not been well enough or had other plans. I will try and make it there again sometime soon! I don’t think I can manage the time for beechwood with kids and dogs to juggle. Glad you are making the most of it though.
Mrs M - lovely to hear you are up and about again and hope you enjoyed the cake.
Fairydust- it must be such a relief to finally leave work behind. I’m glad they were so understanding and got you such a thoughtful gift. They will miss you, but you will be back! Enjoy your new spare time.
I feel reassured that I’m not the only one having hot sweats - maybe it’s more a side effect than imminent menopause after all! Time will tell.
Well, I’m enjoying Edinburgh today. Lovely weather for woodland walks, parks and catching up with old friends. Tomorrow we’re off to Alnwick castle for Halloween themed fun. Then home to get rested and organised before chemo 4. I’ve also get my flu jab and look good feel better next week too.
Take care and enjoy this lovely autumn sun,
Cx
Hi Cathysid, thanks I’m now day 3 of chemo 2, have been ok and went to LGFB today which was good. Nice to have some make up on for a change. Last day of steroids tomorrow ? but last time the few days after that I suffered in the morning with feeling a bit jittery and anxious, so hoping my morning yoga and meditation will help with that again.
Thats great news Fairy! All that worrying!! You can relax and get well now!
Meesh you know about the dip after steroids now so you are better prepared.
I am struggling with throbbing back and pelvic pain tonight - exactly like last cycle after my 7th and last GSCF injection. Taking painkillers and sitting with a hot water bottle but its really not nice!! I am going to ask if i can just have 5 in future!! Does anyone else get this?
Did get out for a bit of a work and lunch today with my boys and hubby so that was nice.
Hi Ali, I don’t have the injections so don’t experience any of that but it sounds pretty miserable! Have you tried calling your chem nurse to see if you can cut them shirt as they did say we shouldn’t need to suffer, I assume that didn’t just apply to the nausea? Sending you some sparkles and unicorn hugs to help you! ????????
Hi Ali, I had exactly the same after my last injection. Back pain and my hips were really hurting. I had to take painkillers as it hurt to walk. Lasted about 12 hours then started to ease off so I will be asking about that tomorrow xx
Honestly runnerbean the pain has actually made me cry tonight!! I phoned my chemo helpline and the nurse said its because the bones have worked overtime to make the WBC’s and are now working to push them round the body. I am not a wuss but this is horrible!! I have just had an epsom salt hot bath and it has eased a bit. I am going to asknif i can only have 5 next time. Hope you feel better runnerbean and less tearful tomorrow xx
CherryB and I both get 7 Jencat so it must be our hospital. I asked the nurse tonight and sje said its to do with the dose of chemo. But Cherry is having EC and i am having FEC. I think i definitely wont be doing the 7th one next time. How are you Jencat?
GOOD MORNING LADIES FROM SUNNY STOCKPORT!!!??
Ali and Runnerbean Try taking the painkillers b4 you do the injection next time and also if possible take a small walk around rhe block after injectiing and take in some deep breaths and fresh air! That helped me on 3rd cycle! Merlot the cat followed me on my walks?
ChasnDave I had 7 each 3 cycled but dont live in Liverpool so I’m hoping to ask how they prescribe that although we just do what they say:) How are you?xx
Fairydust
Itd great to see thst you have made your decision about work and cam see that its a huge weight off your shoulder! YOU time now!!!xx
Cathysid
How lovely Edinburgh this week after your recent trip away too! Glad you are feeling good!
Ive not arranged to go on any trips yet although been invited to Lake District and back to my birthplace Fleetwood, I’m just not confident about leaving my surroundings at the moment, and have the Beechwood course and still enjoying going into work at weekends and continuing organising my fundraising events and I even attended one in Manchester last Tuesday, the first time Ive had the confidence to attend an event with lots of people other than my own! I actually forgot about my BC for 5 hours anf thoroughly enjoyed it!!
Jencat, Chaffinch and SueW
Im so glad to see you managing so well and resting when you can and coping with the side effects! Your preparing has helped towards this and reading what all the lovely members and CCs wrote on here. Yes, we are still doing things to oblige othets but there is a time when we put pur foot down and do things to suit ourselves! Cos we can!!!xx
Meesh
Glad the meditation and exercises are helping! Chemo and Herceptin can affect our heart so deep breathing exercises are a must with what we are going through! Yoga, Chi Gung, Tai Chi too!
Good to see you coping well too.xx
I have followed all the advice. Ive taken the injection out of the fridge an hour before, ive taken painkillers half an hour before and ive moved around after doing them. I have also taken Clarityn!
They make me feel a bit rough on 6 days but after the 7th one, both times, i have developed awfyl pelvis pain thst radoates from my hips and throbs round my back, up my back, into my neck, head and ears. I just think that 7 are too many for me! I will see what onc says xx
