September 2024 chemo starters

Hey I’ve just read your other post and so so sorry how you’re feeling today. I really hope tomorrow you feel better. You look lovely in Your pic and I’m sure what you’re saying about yourself is not right. Keep on with your beauty regime and moisturise all the time. I have ordered a really nice beanie with a few gems just round the front which is quite flattering. Lots of wide headbands and off Vinted I’ve ordered a Christine turban which should’ve been £37 and got it for £12.00 loads on Vinted and a lot new with tags. Sending big hugs

 let the tears flow  your doing the best you can  remember look deep into your eyes when you look at your reflection  you are still there  I found pretending I was going into a chrysalis during chemo then when it was done pretending to be a butterfly as eyebrows, eyelashes and hair grew back. Ladies who cold capped on our oct17 thread did loose a bit of hair too but they kept on with it and the loss did slow down :two_hearts::two_hearts::sparkles::sparkles:Shi xx

Thanks for that Shi we all know it’s going to happen but when it does just so upsetting. Xx

 yes, I had had cut my hair to a bob before starting chemo and donated my hair to little princes trust. I tried to make a positive out of a negative if that makes sense. I was hospitalised after my first chemo with an infection and my hair started coming out in hospital, I luckily got home before too much came out and i immediately got some clippers and clipped it to a grade 2. I cried while I did it but also felt like I’d chosen when to do it rather than chemo choosing when I’d loose it, felt like a little victory to me. I will say do put your make up on first if you do this, I thought I’d look like sinead O’Connor but because I’d not put my make up on looked like an action man toy. And having gone from rapunzel and my hair being what I’d been known for all my life it was upsetting . I had a friend a few months ahead of me on chemo mai7 from here and her hair had already started growing back as soon as she went on T, so I looked forward to when my hair would start growing back. It can be like a kinder surprise, it can come back a different colour and you could get chemo curls  step at a time and day by day :two_women_holding_hands: be kind to yourselves  :two_hearts::two_hearts::sparkles::sparkles:Shi xx

Morning all, I am day 6 today and my bones ache more each day. I am taking warm baths and have spoken to the chemo line who said when I absolutely need to take paracetamol. I think it’s the filgrastram that is causing this side effect and I am dreading the injection every day. I have two more to go this cycle as I take for 7 days. Has anyone found any way to manage this symptom? I feel very fed up and sorry for myself today

Thanks for sharing that Shi. I’ve not combed my hair yet this morning since yesterday’s loss as scared more will come out and sure it will. I’m going to see how it goes do t think I can make any decisions yet :pensive:. Back at hospital tomorrow for blood and weight and seeing my oncologist in readiness for 2nd treatment on Wed 2/10. Have a good Sunday

The hotline people told me to take antihistamines (with loratadine) with filgrastim to help the bone aches, I did this my second cycle and found them much reduced.

Also ask your oncologist if they are able to pay for pegfilgrastrim (it’s one injection rather than 7). My trust is too cheap and they don’t care that I needed it for mental reasons (I’m still POed, can you tell?) but I hear other trusts are better.

I’ve found the symptoms much better the second cycle. Also if you’re able to move around it might help (I didn’t feel like moving at all, but I have a cycle thing, not an exercise bike but a thing you can cycle with on the floor and that helped a bit when I’d use that when I didn’t want to walk around).

@sez thank you so much. It’s reassuring to hear about the second cycle being less symptomatic but will ask my oncologist about the weekly injection. I am seeing her next week before my second cycle.
I do need to take your advice to move. I have been making sure to walk my dog every day and I have felt a little better when I get back from a walk. Xx

Today was the day my hair matted last time and I had a no.8 to get rid of the matt. I cut my hair short this time although long over my ears. I was on FEC-T but am on Paclitaxel now so it may be better anyway. My mate said she lost hers round her ears so cut it short at the end of chemo and then still had it short when she had chemo 2 years later and kept it. So far so good. I wouldn’t shave it all off though as it will grow back faster if you continue with the cold cap.

I still can’t believe so many of us have to do the daily injections. I seem to be the only one here lucky enough to be given pegfilgrastim - it makes me really sad that people are suffering because of financial implications! So unfair.

I can’t offer much advice for the bone aches sadly. All of my side effects seem to focus on my rib cage and chest, I’ve had hardly any muscle or bone aches elsewhere. Not being able to breathe and feeling like I’m having a heart attack for a week isn’t fun though. And the pounding heart freaks me out too :grimacing:

Hope you get some relief soon xx

I think I’m going to have to shave today. I’ve woken up with a massive bald patch on the left side of my head. I feel like prolonging things is just making me feel worse.

Why can’t I just pick up the clippers then??? Argh!

I need to take MY own advice and move. While the pains are less this time I am beyond exhausted and will happily sleep rather than move about. I actually put the cycle thing on the end of my bed so I was doing it while lying down  I am so lazy.

Also ask (either your oncologist or your hotline people) about antihistamines, it’s one of the only things I’m doing differently this time so I assume it’s making a difference.

I think I can feel my pulse all the time and sometimes the blood pumping. Makes me paranoid it’s clots but I’m an overthinker so it’s probably that. My blood pressure is fine.

Oh dear sorry to hear that. I don’t have any clippers so will need to go to my hairdresser if and when I do this. Don’t think I’d be brave enough and understand why you can’t pick the clippers up :pensive: thinking of you must be so hard. One tip which I picked up from one of you lovely ladies make sure you have your make up on before you do it.

I’m day 6 too. I take antihistamine half hour before injections and 2 paracetamol and seem to help so far. How you feeling in general ? I’m exhausted xx

@sharlou and @jules8
Day two of putting wig on and I would definitely second doing your make up etc before any drastic hair changes as I feel a bit better about it today having taken that approach. From what I have seen of your pictures you both have good bone structure and will look fab! I have a litle squat face (hence you wont be seeing a picture!!) and scared myself looking like my mother last night! Lippy on today…!!

Put my ‘house beanie’ on this morning and my husband announces i look like I’m joining a 1930s synchronised swim team! CF. I will make these next few months…he might not!!!

Hi Nelly I’m sure you’re doing yourself an injustice and are a beautiful person inside and out and so nice to receive that compliment from you how kind. Bet your wig looks fab and hope you feel comfortable wearing it. Not sure your husband will see the day through :joy: but know he must love you very much and trying to keep your spirits up. Enjoy your day

@epic yes feeling absolutely overwhelmed and exhausted. I am on TC Phesgo so 5 more cycles left. I am counting down. The emotion weight also feels incredibly hard when you are at the beginning I think but recognising I am 1/6 of the way through and need to focus on that.
How are you doing?
