September 2024 chemo starters

Hi Folks. I am sorry to hear of everyone’s hair, im being driven slowly insane by the “am I, aren’t I losing it” paranoia as I’ve always lost a lot of hair so I can’t quite differentiate (but my ponytail feels a lot thinner). But I have noticed a lot less grays than I would expect - guessing this means it’s just not growing?! :exploding_head: Definitely won’t be able to do the clippers myself so @sharlou you are not alone there.
I am on day 12 post first cycle & woken up this morning with a runny nose & mildly sore throat. I’ve been sooo careful barely been anywhere or seen anyone so bit gutted! Does anyone know are you meant to call the emergency line if you feel ill or just with a temp (as no temp yet). :saluting_face:

I have this sensation but makes me worry about my heart!! I had an echocardiogram at the start & there is nothing wrong with my heart so not scheduled anymore thro the process (which the radiographer at the time told me they do) but my oncologist says I don’t need anymore. Does anyone else have more heart scans scheduled in the process? Anytime my heart rate is elevated i can feel it pounding thro my chest wall

Hi I’m day 18 so a bit in front of you. I take my temp regularly and invested in an ear thermometer as I was told they were more reliable one and must admit it’s great. I’m no expert but was just told to ring if temp exceeded 37.5 or above or 36.0 or below. If you feel ill abd for peace of mind why dont you just give them a call for advice think I would. I’ve called once and they were so helpful x

Omg you look fantastic! It really suits you. Did you do that yourself?!
(Also are your brows micro bladed? Mine are but I think a lot have come out as I got too sweaty too soon - your brows are great!) x

They’re just drawn on! The left one is the one that half fell off so I’ve had to colour them much darker than usual.

Husband wielded the clippers :rofl: It will need tidying up at the hairdresser next week but the overwhelming emotion has been relief to be honest. There’s just enough hair left on top to ruffle over the bald patches so I feel ok :slight_smile:

@sunshineandunicorns
I got the kids cold last week and was gutted. Felt just like a normal cold and no temperature. I rang the rapid response number anyway as due in for bloods and PICC line fitting. Loads of questions later and I did a covid test which was negative and they just told me to keep an eye on symptoms, temp etc. I got no worse so they were fine with it. Rang me again next day to check which i thought was very attentive.

Someine sitting next to me had a cold on Friday who was having chemo. I was surprised as they said they have alot of people there with no immunity at all.

If I’m allowed I will, purely because I’ve heard it aids regrowth. I’m a bit worried I’ll be told there’s no point continuing now that I’ve chopped it all off…

If in doubt call the hotline, that’s what they told me.

My last Echocardiogram was performed (seemingly) by the Chuckle brothers, absolute joke (they kept asking such stupid questions and giving me gibberish answers when I asked wth they were on about) so I didn’t take the results seriously. They’ve scheduled me another one (at a different location) in a couple of weeks, they don’t think there’s anything to worry about but want “to check”.

They won’t tell you to stop because you’ve chopped it. My aunt cut her hair shorter than yours and she’s still cold capping.

I think the only time they’d advise you to stop is for health reasons (like I had to stop cos I had a reaction and I’ve seen some people be told they have to stop because they are literally bald and it’ll physically hurt their head, although re the latter I’ve read if you wear a surgical cap it protects the scalp and some people still do it bald).

Or gauze can be used to cover the bald area. I used a surgical cap when I was told to stop the previous week which Paxman advised me to do. Mine was a no.8 but when I had rads in December was told it looked really long unlike others who hadn’t cold capped. I finshed chemo in Sept.
