September 2024 chemo starters

@ake oh wow what a tough time you have had. I am in the same treatment and have had the thrush and sore mouth, throat ulcers and burning when I pee. Thankfully mine was managed outside of hospital, guess I was lucky.
I really hope your treatment this week is easier on you :muscle:
I have my second cycle a week tomorrow (15th) my hair has started to shed today so expecting it to come out in handfuls very soon. Going to shave mine off when it gets really bad.
Good luck for Wednesday xx

Today’s hair update: still significant shedding. Was outside yesterday & so worried the wind was going to blow it all off.
Yet my chin hairs are still going strong - why!? My top lip could really do with a wax too but I don’t see why I should!

@sunshineandunicorns Thanks for that, my shedding seems to have slowed down today thank goodness but looking thin and drab. Parting getting wider! But I’ll hold off on any decisions on my hair for now.
I was re reading all the Paxman stuff last night re nurses caps etc, I’m going to keep with it for now. Hubby has day clear today so I’ve got my self dressed, some make-up on and will go out in the car with him later for a drive. Weve a few errands. I just need to feel more me today and make an effort. Feeling tired, but side effects waning finaly. I have chemo on a Monday and seems Fri/ Sat/ Sun are my worst days. Sore throat lessening but mouth just tastes manky. Cant wait to be able to have some satisfaction from eating. Seriously considering a Maccy D drive through!!
Wishing everyone a good Monday xx

My Little Lifts chemo box has just been delivered. What an amazing charity. I didnt sleep well last night and amongst other things there is sleep spray and a soothing eye mask…hopefully that will help tonight. So lovely. Made my day x

I had my appointment with my oncologist (who is amazing) I asked her about the single filgrastrim injection. Anyway it’s a postcode thing depending on what trust you have so sadly for me in Kent it’s a no, but anyone else be sure to ask as it is a thing in some trusts

@galdiolus Postcode lottery again. Not good is it.
Hope you are feeling a bit better

It’s so unfair, shouldn’t happen. We all pay our NI contributions and we should all receive the same service :frowning:

@epic1 such a shame, my oncologist said it would be so much better one injection. Maybe I should write to my local ICB :eyes:
I’m feeling much better thank you. Hope you are doing okay x

@sunshineandunicorns it’s unfair isn’t it, the chin hair is holding fast but my nose hair is disappearing leaving my with a constantly runny nose :woman_shrugging:t2:.

Yeah, I’m not sure. Sorry you’re triple negative, but it sounds like they are being really attentive. If you’re not sure why you’re having a particular drug and you think people normally have a different one, definitely ask your consultant. I am learning, we have to be more assertive than is comfortable in this process!

I agree!

Still doesn’t sound very lucky - in or out of hospital, that’s all miserable! Really hope your next round is better - and that you feel better in the meantime too. Have side effects started to clear up as you move towards the end of Week 2? Mine didn’t start getting better until well into Week 3 really. Thanks re Wednesday!

I had my second round of chemo yesterday and I asked the nurse why does the hair on the head fall out but everywhere else seems to remain like chin whiskers. She said it’s because is visceral the blood flows to that area more. She said when you see someone with a head injury and they bleed they bleed a lot even an scratch and that’s because it’s pumped there quickest and constant. I’m not medical but I think that’s what she said.

Good luck today I think your round two is happening. Best of luck x

Damn it I forgot to ask that question.

I’ll bookend you, my nostril hairs are few and far between and nose running.
@sunshineandunicorns I’ve been advised not to wax my eyebrows now so plucking them and it doesn’t hurt AT ALL, no wincing and yes might take a closer look at my lip too.

Ooh that’s interesting @nicnac17 . Is wax a no no during chemo then?
Yes, round 2 this afternoon. I’m dreading it but I’m dreading washing my hair even more! which I’m planning just before I go over there x

How you feeling after round 2?

@sunshineandunicorns I had round 2 at 1.30pm yesterday took about 2 hrs. My nurse was amazing and went through everything. But I forgot to ask about the 1 injection filgristem. When the red stuff went in that wasn’t too bad but the clear one, almost instantly my legs went cold, cold as ice and my nose really odd. The nurse said is it like when you smell horseradish and you suck in and it feels odd I said yes. I don’t remember that from round 1.

After I asked if I could see a BCN to look at what I thought was a Seroma. Thankfully one was there to take a look, she had a prod and did ultrasound but said tissue was how it should look but then she got my surgeon in to look he agreed with the nurse. I then showed him my shoulder where I’d had lymph node clearance I said it didn’t fell right and feels like it pops out of place. So I turned and showed him my back and he thinks my nerve running from my boxer muscle (never knew I had one of them) to my scapula is obviously bruised. My daughter thinks I’m a mutant spider when my shoulders out, it does look bloody weird!

I now have two dodgy arms and two dodgy shoulders and can only sleep on my back. So I am being referred to a physiotherapist.

Felt some nausea last night, thought I was going to be sick ran to loo but nothing. I’ve eaten dinner and breakfast, had all my tablets this morning and taking it as it comes.

I also shaved my head last night, it is going to take some getting used to and by god it’s cold and I think I’m going to get an organic gradual tan cos my scalp is so white. And I’ve bought some hats. Glad to not see a wake of hair everywhere I’ve been and not eating it :rofl::rofl:

Good luck today @sunshineandunicorns it’s really no different to the first one just maybe a different nurse and seat. I did take some boiled sweets which really were a godsend. Xxx

I have a friend who’s been waxing and giving me facials for years and she’s said she didn’t want to do it as my skin will be really sensitive she’s wait for a wax that’s suitable for super sensitive skin. But honestly I’m plucking and it’s not painful but that’s only been my eyebrows lips a different kettle of fish……

I’ve done a separate reply to my day yesterday xxx
