September 2024 chemo starters

@sharlou I was wondering if pegfilgrastim was an alternative option, as my trust will prescribe it, but if it has the same breathless side effects then there may be no other options. My neuts were already low using filgrastim so I’m pretty sure it will delay my chemo regime.

No but I did read it makes you tired. I know mine are on a downward trajectory as expected I was told.

I would hope if something isn’t right with bloods they’d ring to say don’t come in. Surely they wouldn’t wait until you get there to tell you to go home?

@magl Yeah I was told they ring if a problem. Id personally love a call to say they are fine!, it’s just one more thing to feel anxious about!

I haven’t had either.

So no news is good news.
I’ve just learnt that for the year I’m on Herceptin there’ll be a blood test and heart scan every three months.

I get an e mail to confirm but I’m private. I also have a blood test on the day of the Phesgo every fourth time I think but the hospital said they don’t do them. I also have an echo every 3 months I think. I’m seeing my onc on Friday to arrange tests so will see then.

Have you been told you may go on Kadcyla if you don’t get a 100% response when you have your op?

Thanks all for the comments about flu and Covid. I think I may skip the Covid but do the flu and looks like I’ll have to have in thigh due to picc and lymph node removal…… I’m slightly worried about after shocks.

I had mine in my arm above my PICC line. The nurse said it was fine. Had no problems doing that.

Reading thro ppls comments my blood clot in my picc line almost certainly influenced the need to have it in my thigh!

Funnily enough I’ve just had an invite for a Covid vaccine. Didn’t think I qualified but clearly I do now! I’ve not had a Covid jab for a while now so not sure whether I’ll go for it either

Long day today. PICC line fitting followed by 2nd ec - delay in pharmacy so I was sat in chair 3 hours more than I should with cold cap on .
PICC line fitting ok but arm and hand a tiny bit swollen and a little bit painful - hopefully this will settle down ?
Hope you are all ok ladies - off to bed now I’m shattered xx

No. No one has mentioned Kadcyla. I’ve already had my op - axillary node clearance - in July. I can’t understand how they’ll know if it’s been successful or not, especially in my case where it was Occult and so they don’t know where it is or even if it’s there at all.

That’s awful having to wait. I had to wait 2 hours once and towards the end I was finding it very hard to keep even tempered.
I had my Herceptin today as well as chemo. I fell asleep the minute they added the antihistamine, had 4 hours sleep when I got home and will be going back to bed very soon.

Having my covid jab tomorrow and flu next month

Ultrasound can see if it disappears completely. I was told mine would go after 6 weeks but my onc says more like 12.

Has anyone else had their periods stop during chemo? My onc offered to put me on zoladex injections (which I’m due to be having post treatment) at the start of chemo so I didn’t have to deal with periods & chemo but I declined as it was just one more thing with side effects to worry about. But period (due over a week ago) still hasn’t come. No chance of being preg so that’s not it. I’m getting weird pains “down there” which are making me worry! But not sure if this is something I can or should call “the line” about!

I don’t have periods as I had an ablation a few years ago but can sympathise with pains ‘down there’ …very strange :grimacing:

Had a chat with my oncologist about the breathing on pegfilgrastim…I’ve had a chest x ray etc and my lung function is ok, so it looks like it is the rib and chest muscle pain that is impacting on my breathing by stopping me from getting a deep breath. I was offered daily filgrastim as an alternative but I’ve decided to continue with the single injection. Oncologist has said I should take codeine for the first three days of pegfilgrastim to see if that helps :woman_shrugging:
