September 2024 chemo starters

Well that’s what I thought too that the Filgristem boosts the immunity and by week 2 you’re good to go.

Yes people seem to be a spluttering all over. My daughter had the live flu vaccine yesterday so school called and said I have to keep away from her for two days as she’ll be shedding. But like you it makes me nervous. But I’m going on a plane on Saturday so I think :woman_shrugging:t3: just be careful!!!

Ooh are you off anywhere nice? Is there anything special needed for air travel with a PICC line? X

Very late to respond sorry but agree with what everyone else has said…I think?? I get confused about my nadir as I’m on a two week cycle so if you’re at your lowest on days 7-14 that means I’m potentially at my lowest right before the next treatment :woman_shrugging: Nadir hasn’t ever been discussed with me to be fair so like many others I get my info here :raised_hands:

Day 8 of cycle 3 today for me and I feel human again apart from the raging fatigue. Managed to do 10 mins on the bike though and I’m determined to do another couple of bursts throughout the day.

Today’s food cravings…uncut white bread and black pudding :woman_shrugging::rofl:

My neuts are highest on the day before, day of chemo and the day after (weekly chemo) however the day before I was 1.04 and it has to be 1 so it went ahead but the strength has been reduced from tomorrow. As I had another chemo at the higher strength I an half expecting tomorrow to be cancelled!
My Paxman machine arrived yesterday and the guy said he’s not heard of it breaking down before as it’s checked before being sent out. Whether I caused it by having 3 things plugged in the other plug as it’s a double socket who knows!

Just thought you lovely ladies might like to see my new gym wig which some kind friends bought me. It’s from Headscarves by Ciara and I absolutely love it! The hair is such a lovely texture and the pony tail makes me feel so normal as that was always my usual day to day hair.

Ahh this looks gorgeous on you! I have got this one too (is yours dark chocolate? I went for light chocolate). Quality is fab but I was disappointed as she said she could do made to measure for my massive head but in reality she has just cut the lining & stuck a bit of Velcro in but I still can’t get it over my sodding head.

Aww that’s such a shame. Mine has velcro too but it fits me ok. I think I have a small head maybe :woman_shrugging:t2: The colour was called medium brown. It is a bit darker than I thought and darker than my other wig but I think it’s ok. I wonder could you modify yours in any way to make it fit?

@pod123 I’m not very ‘crafty’ or any good with a needle & thread - but going to see someone new (my last possible option!) for a “proper” wig (to use my voucher on!) next week so might see if she will take pity on me & help get it to fit - seems a waste otherwise! Seeing yours in action has made me want to make mine work!

We’re going to Spain. We were supposed to be going for all of half term but it’s worked that we can go Saturday back Thursday for bloods and picc flush speak to onc on Friday then in Monday for round 3. To say I’m apprehensive and shoulders by my ears is an understatement but my onc said use common sense and enjoy so I am. Ref picc, I can’t swim (in my head I thought I’d drown from the inside out :rofl::rofl:). I’m slightly worried they’ll ask me to take my baseball cap off as passport control but it’ll be fleeting and no one will be looking or bothered! My district nurse picked out all the things I need to take with me dressing wise, drug wise but other than that as it nothings going on. I am very much looking forward to some sunshine and normality.

Oh my gosh you’re modelling it way better than on their website. It looks so much better than how they show it. It looks so natural :star_struck: you look super :star_struck:

I’m sorry another stupid question which I feel like I should know the answer to but what are nuets? Are they supposed to give me this information am I supposed to be asking for it? Or does it depend on your drugs?

Neutrophils. It’s your white blood cells needed for immunity. Mine were 0.97 yesterday but it went ahead today as the rest of my blood was OK. Going to see my onc today. The nurse said my neuts may stay the same as my dose has gone down by 10% from today. I am not sitting in the waiting room. Last week I waited for my covid jab outside and I was last.

Aww you’re too kind, thank you
I wore it for the school run today and didn’t notice any strange looks. The headband is not a look I’d normally go for but I’m trying to get away with it! I like it for when I’m dressed casually (which is most of the time) as the proper wig is very “I’ve just had a blow-dry” and looks a bit odd when I’m in my hoodie and leggings :joy:
Hope you have a great time in Spain :sunglasses: I’m so jealous!

I’m the same no one’s said about the nadir period! It’s on my list for onc call. I’m very 3 weeks tho so we’re different in that respect.

Well done for getting on the bike, I’ve only done one bike ride in 5 weeks so I know how hard it is to get back on so docking my cap to you, bloody marvellous work.

Black pudding on bread I was gagging and laughing when I read that! Can’t say I have cravings but I have wanted porridge for breakfast the last 4 days. Not as unique as your craving :exploding_head::exploding_head:

Heck why would you think you’d get strange looks, looks so natural. I look like my great Grandad not a great look as a lobsided breasticle woman :rofl::rofl:

Yes Spain I’m slightly panicky but looking forward to it. Tbh I’ll be glad when I’ve got there and got the plane and airport bit out the way. Temp is 28 so happy to get some vitamin D and chillax….

Thank you for explaining. They tell you this readily or you asked them for the information. Why do I not know about this and my neutrophils am I supposed to ask for the number too? Good luck with the Onc. X

It’s a stationary bike so not quite that impressive :eyes:

Today I’ve cleaned the house from top to bottom…that counts as exercise, doesn’t it?!

I only know about neutrophils from reading it on here! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: no idea of my numbers etc - I think we only know when there is a problem. Linda is private I believe so I suspect will get more detailed info than we would on nhs (correct me if I’m wrong on that @Linda_Corinne )
I asked chemo nurses when my nadir phase was (I’m on a 3 x week cycle) & they told me day 10 was my lowest day x

Omg I’m so jealous! Vitamin D will do you the world of good. Please will you report back any ‘cancer travelling tips’ as I have cancelled a (3 x week, long haul) trip over Christmas and NY but considering a few days away to Spain or somewhere similar but very anxious about all the things to do with travel that used to be normal!
