September 2024 chemo starters

If you haven’t yet, ask your Macmillan nurse if they can organise you speaking to your surgeon.
I was dealing with one when I was diagnosed, since then referred to another (cos the first doesn’t do reconstruction) and am now awaiting speaking to a third as the second made me feel like I had no control over what I can have done (I want an expander so I can decide when I don’t have active cancer hanging over me and hopefully my brain will be a bit clearer, he doesn’t like them so said he’ll make the decision when I’m on the table :flushed:).
It’s possible you may need further after reconstruction and radiotherapy as the latter can warp the implant and/or skin, but that’s not guaranteed (hence another reason why I wanted an expander). All surgeons view these things differently so I’d try and organise a consultation with yours specifically to discuss if their views on what you’re hoping for and expecting align.
If you have then I’d go back to the Macmillan nurse and see what they can do.

I am feeling very happy, had my bloods today and all good for my final chemo tomorrow! I cried when I got the go ahead. On to the next chapter for me which is mastectomy and another 12 Phesgo injections every three weeks

Well strange one for me today / they said I don’t need chemo tmrrw! That I’ve done 5 out of 6 and they normally recommend to do at least 4 - and that the oncologist feels with my cancer my Benefit will be radio and hormone therapy . I said I don’t want to be under treated but she was quite adamant . I am happy it’s over. Bummer though I have to do 15 radio - I know her colleague said 5 !! Oh well

@epic1 I have heard of it quite a bit where they stop at 4 sessions. A lady I got some advice from when i started all this had 4 sessions signed off by her onco from the beginning. They would never under treat you im sure!
I was worried i was being under treated as i keep putting weight on and i thought id be out my drugs range! Im assured im not!
My final one today. I held the reflection stone rather than rang the bell. Hugged ny nurse and shed a tear. I too need 15 radio blasts. Bone infusions, targeted/hormone therapy as well but my PICC line is no more! Onwards!! Sept seems along time agobin some ways. X

Tmrrw I am going to try and book a cheeky week away abroad somewhere. Will have to see if I can get insurance as I’ve still radio to go but they said I can delay that for up to 9 weeks. Would be amazing to get out out . Seems like we are all coming to an end now or soon.

I recently bought make up from Primeprometics. They are designed for older women and are very soft and creamy, yet don’t smudge. I use the eye shadow and eye liner if I want to define my eyes and they do softer colours which are a lot kinder on the whole. My hands are not the steadiest and I have tingling caused by nerve damage from chemo. However, I still look a lot better with a bit of make-up help. I use their silver queen on my eyebrows but if you look at their website you will find pics showing people wearing the different colours and also how to videos. When I did the LGFB workshop I found an Avon eyeliner in my bag. It’s very similar quality to the prometics one and probably cheaper but I haven’t checked that.

Anyone starting radiotherapy this month? I’ve got my planning appointment on Friday, I expect treatment will start either 20th or 27th. I’ll be having 20 sessions. Just wondering if anyone else will be starting soon?

Isn’t it great when the picc line gets ousted :grin:

Yeah the daily visits are going to be a lot aren’t they. I hope I start on 20th as the sooner it starts the sooner it is over! I may have to stay over for some of it depending how the fatigue affects me.

I haven’t bought anything for hair growth yet, although there’s a bit of regrowth already! Tiny little spikes that feel prickly

@nellyh @sharlou I’ve been using Weleda hair tonic with rosemary since my hair first fell out. Not sure if it’s helping but I definitely have some regrowth already and I’ve two cycles of chemo still to go. The hair tonic is on Boots £10 Tuesday today, usually £14. Actually I’ve just checked and it’s out of stock! But you can get it in Holland and Barrett and if you sign up for a subscription it’s cheaper, then don’t forget to cancel the subscription!

@sharlou i have my radio planning on Monday then going to try and go to Dubai for a week before it starts. I’ve got 15 sessions although they originally told me 5. I wonder why there is a difference ?

I was originally told 5, then 15, and now 20. Originally they didn’t think there was node involvement so 5 was standard I think. Then because there was node involvement but I didn’t have clearance it went to 15. Then they decided they wanted to do a boost at the site of the tumour so it went to 20. Could it be something like that?

Also…Dubai, wow. Fingers crossed!!!

@pod123 I will look that hair oil up!
Currently i have alot of very very white fuzz! I was dark brown with grey under colour Its going to be a long process to get back to that!!

Glad we are all moving along the train and really wish I was off somewhere sunny. Currently sitting waiting for my son who is out on his driving test as I type. Stressful!!

Does everyone know we have a Whats App group to keep in touch/arrange a meeting. Rosegarden is the contact for this if you want to join so send her your number.

I’ve been using Weleda Rosemary hair tonic since Christmas. No change yet. I was in for my Herceptin injection yesterday and a woman there had six months post-chemo hair growth. It was about 1-2 inches long. Curly when her hair is usually straight. It looked lovely and thick.
I’ve assumed chemo was finished when I finished Paclitaxel but I’ve just realised Herceptin is also chemo and that too causes hair loss.

My hair is still shedding abit and I am now on just Phesgo but I don’t think it causes hair loss like Paclitaxel did. I was hoping it would stop soon as it’s nearly 8 weeks on Friday since my last treatment and am hoping to get my hair cut and coloured 3 months after my last one too so mid Feb depending on when my op is.

I’ve had a mastectomy with implant. Hobson’s choice for me as I didn’t want to be flat and couldn’t deal with the reconstruction using my own skin. In either case, the boob will be completely numb.

I still have a cleavage although since the implant size is smaller than my remaining breast, I have the option of a partial prosthesis to even up a bra. I often wear a soft post surgery bra and it seems fairly matched through my clothes. I’ll have a nipple tattooed on in due course. They’ve offered a matching reduction on the real boob but I’m not minded to have any further operations.

I’m not having radio, which can be an issue with implants.
