September Sunbeams 2014

Hi Everyone!

Had my bloods again today, and they are finally okay yaaay! Liver function isn’t quite what it should be yet (will carry on munching down on the milk thistle!), but the doctor said its okay to go ahead with 4th FEC on Monday which is great - felt like I was really stuck at the half way point and its so frustrating when you aren’t making any progress! PaulS that’s great to hear your bloods were okay as well today, another chemo ticked off for you!

I’ve been having a glum few days, actually had a good old cry last night for the first time in months - I think feeling crappy for the last few months has finally caught up with me! Mulled wine sounds like a lovely idea, and doctor has given me the go ahead to drink so I’m sure that will help with the cheering up process!

Have a good weekend sunbeams!

Emma xx

Ooh I’m loving all this “good” news!! Well done Emma on your bloods and all the very best for Mondays FEC!! I’m currently drinking a large Baileys which Ive mixed with honey to make it healthy ??, xxx Sam

Honey Baileys - yum! Have just had a glass of red wine, so good for the bone-ache I find… Love Anna

Absolutely Anna! A glass a day to keep the bone ache away! I’m sure I read that somewhere, ?xxxxxxx

Ps id just like to apologise in advance for anything I post in the next few hours, it’s been a LONG TIME since I’ve had a drink, and it’s going down very easy, I feel totally normal, as in no ‘crudness’, it’s lovely!! And in true typsy style I’d like to thank each and every one of you bloody amazing females for being my virtual pals on this sh*tty journey, and long may it continue xxx lots of love to you all September Sunbeams xxx Sam

So envious! No lovely drinks for me tonight I fear. Have already dropped off on couch so in bed! Sam have a great evening. And Pam and 1852 - take care but enjoy. P xx

Great news on everyone’s bloods, so glad you were OK to go ahead today Pauls, all our fingercrossing must have worked. Great news for Monday as well Emma

Good news here too…first Tax went absolutely fine…was much quicker than the Fec as no premeds to put through and much less time needed on the cold cap…good job too because it’s bloody cold now with such thin hair. PaulS, I did exactly the same and came home and had a warm bath as I was absolutely freezing. No allergic reaction, phew! And no sickness yet either, though we’ll see what happens post steroids on Sunday. Have even managed to supervise my 11 year old cooking gluten free chocolate brownies for her xmas fair at school tomorrow…and help with the taste testing!! Cupboard stocked with paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Hi Beamees
I’m not good. Day 9 of Tax and struggling with SEs.
I have muscle pain in my back and legs, and occasional spasms in my chest which are exhausting. Fiery rash on my hands which won’t cool down. Plus I seem to have forgotten how to sleep.
I can’t look after my 3yo so he’s back to his dad’s again today. Killing me.
Never thought I’d miss the nausea nightmare of fec, but I’m finding this truly challenging.
When will I feel normal again beamers?
xx

Good morning sunbeams, I’m feeling very chipper, had best nights sleep in months, 7hours straight through!

Peegee I felt the same as you, have you got codeine, that helped ease the pains, but I definitely felt better by day 10, still random aches and pains but not to bad, my palms were a bit itchy but not to your degree, I haven’t slept properly since the start of all this, just rest as much as poss and take pain relief xxx

Good luck with injections Pam, and I think your iPad skills are fine! Xxx

Yes Den, my husband home on Friday, ?, can’t wait, hope you and yours are ok xxx

Have a SE free day if poss girls, if not then take what you can to help!! TAX is definitely more ouch than FEC but I’m day 12 and not to bad now, everything crossed lol xxx Sam

Morning Ladies,
Today I feel I’m me again. Those injections are hard going, it’s like a cloud and u just can’t shift it. It’s day 9 for me too Peegee I had my last injection Thursday evening it will get easier. My lad is 4 and it been hard on him too. All I wanted to do is sit on the sofa and watch crap tv had no patience the 16 year just hid in his room till it was safe to come out. Think this first one is the hardest next time we will know what’s coming and can be more prepared. Rest and eat well our bodies need lots of TLC
Bigs hugs to all. Cx

Got some sleep last night - from about 10-3.30 then dozed but feel ok. Still in bed and had tea and toast to take drugs. Day 2 on Tax 1. No sickness and apart from quite frequent visits to loo and no SEs yet. Nurse coming at 4 to do injection and then I’ll do then myself after next two Tax. So pleased you enjoyed drinks ladies - but take care! Onc told me if pains come to take painkillers and if need stronger ones to call helpline and not suffer. He said pain goes quite quickly. Heat pads and warm baths and hot water bottles. My radiotherapy planning day is Thursday so feel I’m slowly getting there. Have a good day ladies. Paul xx

I’m glad people were enjoying some Friday night drinkies, honey baileys doesn sound nice (and healthyish!) I am thinking some baileys on ice cream would do wonders for my poor sore mouth! I am also feeling not too bad despite a few drinks last night (althought I can only manage about 3 drinks nowadays before the yawning sets in!)

I am feeling so pleased to be back on track, doctor said yesterday that hopefully I should fare a little better with the side effects this time as my liver has had a bit more time to recover, I have also been given Cyclizine to add to my cocktail of anti sickness drugs for when the Emend runs out after day 3, has anyone tried this one before?

I hope everyone suffering with SE effects isn’t feeling too bad today, it seems a lot of us are on the injections now and gosh those aches and pains are a bit horrid aren’t they! Also in the land of ridiculous SE’s, the doctor said yesterday that the stress has caused me to develop eczema, which I have NEVER had before! It really is the gift that keeps on giving!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone, I am planning on making the most of my next 48 hours of feeling well! xx

Hello all,

News from Tax land is that so far so good, but it’s only day 2!!! I’m aware that the side effects kick in a bit later than with the Fec, but I am pleased to report that although I’m pretty knackered feeling and getting the lovely toxic sweat and all that, I’ve had no sickness and have just had a curry…certainly wouldn’t have been doing that after Fec!!! I decided to reduce my steroid dosage today (the Onc told me this would be fine if I felt I didn’t need them all), so I’ve had half of what I was given and do feel better for it…I can’t stand that wired feeling where either your body or your brain are zipping along, but never both at the same time.

We’ll see what tomorrow brings. Off to have my lovely injection now, oh joy, bring on the aches and pains! Hope everyone’s OK, lots of love and hugs to all, keep your spirits up!!

Ness xxx

Evening ladies! Emma I’m so happy you’re feeling back on track, apart from the eczema, my friend had that last year with chemo, stress induced, it cleared up within 3 weeks of finishing so that’s positive!! Xxx

Junash if you read back a few pages you’ll get our take on our first TAX experiences, all different and all personal, it’s all doable though and just make sure your not a hero and take those pain killers if you need them, all the best to you, what a ride eh ?xxx

Ness that’s a positive start and great to hear!! Again how different our doctors advice is, when I asked if I could lower steroid dose he said under no circumstances as they work with the chemo’s effectiveness and also the allergic reaction of the body to it, that’s why I got the steroid tail, to ease the end of them, but as long as you feel good then that’s what matters!!

Have a lovely Saturday night Sunbeams, glass of red wine and a curry for me, rock n roll all the way ?, lots of love xxx Sam

1852 my hubby bought me one and it is fab! Great way to get all the healthy things we need when we don’t feel like a plate of food. Enjoy - and download the full recipe book.
Hope you are having a good Saturday night ladies. No SEs yet for me - I feel fine so far. Nurse gave injection no problems but will now read the leaflet. P xx

Whitfield it is Amgen Neulasta. It reduces the period of low white cells and encourages their production to reduce risk of infection (straight off leaflet!).
What have you been given? P xx

Hi Sunnies - I had a fab time in London - went to winter wonderland for my fix of Christmas Sparkle. Saw the lights in Oxford Street and did a bit of Christmas shopping. Also saw the last few Poppies at the tower. Knackered now but it was fab to be out ?. Feel I’m ready to take on my 1st Fec next week - enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone xx

Hi Den, ooh after you get used to it you’ll love your nutribullet, it’s a handy little gadget, my favourite ingredient is beetroots, I use them for most of my inventions lol, I bulk buy the vacuum packed ones (4 in a pack) in the fruit n veg sections without vinegar, a couple of them with carrots, apple, mixed nuts and a handful of spinach is nice, and for fruit ones it’s nice to use almond milk for a milkshake type drink, and any fruit you have lying around! Just experiment and enjoy!!
Off to read my book now, sounds like a lovely day Nutty, just what the doctor ordered!!

Yes Pam same injections as PaulS said, I do them for 5 days after each chemo, to get those white cells working xx
Have a SE free super Sunday Sunbeams xxx Sam

I only get one injection. I asked about this and she said that this us a new way of doing it and it used to be a course. But I’m sure we’re are all getting exactly what we need,
Well I am a Day 3 post Tax 1 and fine. Slept from 11-6.45 and feeling so much better. Think I’ll get back on the treadmill today but will do a bit less. My face seems a but flushed today but that’s about it and it may simply be I am warm. No steroids today - yeah - just the anti-sickness drugs. Going to lie in bed and rest and read a while.
Xmas lights in Oxford Street sound great! Wish I could see them. I am in Edinburgh and our lights are now on and they look lovely. Last night I had spelt flour pasta - first since January as I was diagnosed diabetic - and it was great. Less than half the carbs and my blood sugars good so think I can eat it fine. Only problem is a complete lack of appetite for me. I keep losing weight. But getting good things from the nutri bullet and will keep at that. Avocado makes the drinks lovely and thick and creamy and is a source of good fats and is very nutritious.
Have a great SE- free day Sunbeams. I so appreciate you all sharing your journeys. P xx
