Thanks Cheryl good idea, where did u get ur scarves etc from? i got some from the wig lady a hat for outside, a sleep cap and i have got wig they said they use for Asian women cos of my hair type and length, she is called Lola (feel a song coming on lol!) but the scarves, i have a red bandana that i need to tie but there are so many ready tied and so many variations, any recommendations anyone?
Shar x i have had no wine since that FEc think tomorrow on hair cutting day, that will be the day i have one its medisinal xxx
After having fec3 postponed for a week because of neutropenia(low wbc) I’ve got a bit of a sore throat!!!To tell or not to tell? Maybe it be away by Friday or Monday?
I can’t remember who wrote what but everybody seems to be in better spirits so going to JM to get some better spirits as well!
Margaret!
Sounds like an excellent plan Marym17- see ya in there - is yours a Crabbies or something else?!
CM - love the subtle pat on hand idea, maybe I’ll use it if I get nurse who thinks I’m pincushion again!!

Shar, I have lots of scarves anyhow, but I’ve just ordered some from Annabandana, as their prices are lower than some. Some people like long cotton crinkle scarves and you might be able to find them in the high street or a market. One site had some nice ones that seemed a bit pricey, and now I’ve forgotten the name! One advantage of long rectangular scarves is that you can put them around your neck after all this is over. The same with hats or baseball caps; even if you don’t normally wear a hat, you’ll still have them for sun protection for the next year or so, or for colder weather.
Cheryl
CM - so cruel but so perfect - I love it!!
I haven’t been weighed since my first meeting with the onc. and they won’t weigh me again unless they or I think my weight has changed a lot. no-one has mentioned it to me since and I’m certainly not going to volunteer!
I keep telling myself the hickman will be a doddle but it’s the just the thought of it that’s giving me the heebie jeebies.
Do you think all the missing WBCs have tunnelled their way over to me and my count will be sky high tomorrow? It was 0.5 on Friday - positively astronomical compared to Troy’s but quite a bit lower than they’d have liked so has anyone been knitting those white balaclavas yet so I can pretend all my red ones are white?

Shar, Primark is brilliant for scarves - lots of colours and patterns and so cheap.

My kids think I’m barmy, sitting here chortling to myself at the mental images this thread conjures up.
I’d like to have a go at knitting little white balaclavas for Alto’s red blood cells but I’d need REEEEEAAAALLLLLLYYYY tiny knitting needles. Should I just use a couple of blunt pins and some sewing cotton? Would that do? Perhaps you could just bleed into a bowl of flour, Tom and Jerry used to dive into the flour barrel every time they wanted to look like ghosts, surely it’d work for RBCs?
Food and stuff, haven’t had a problem really. Mouth’s a bit sore so I tried some pineapple but that STUNG so I don’t think I’ll go there again for a while.
I’ve just spent some more money on bandanashop.com, because they have a great range of Buffs, including UV protective ones. I love Buffs but the tricky bit is deciding which one, there are hundreds of the bloomin’ things to choose from and I’ve never been any good at fashion decisions. My kids will attest to that one!
I think Trip also mentioned Scarfhut.co.uk, and they have some very good value caps.
If you have specific sore spots, try cold sore stuff, otherwise Difflam is still your friend. Pineapple has an enzyme in it which makes it a good meat tenderiser, so it’s probably not the best thing for a sore mouth, as opposed to a ‘coated’ one.
We really need an exchange scheme for blood cells, so some of my whites can go visit some of you the week before your sessions and some of your reds can come visit me. My WBC isn’t wonderful, but so far is holding up better than the RBC.
Cheryl
A blood exchange visit sounds like a good idea Cheryl. Would it be like the one we had with an Italian girl - would we have to send them “getting to know you” emails first? And would we have to worry about whether the bathroom’s clean enough for them? What about their taste in food? Oo-er, it’s stressful this exchange business.
Still, I’m having my Hickman in today so I’ll just be able to turn on the tap and dispense a few RBCs to you when needed, then your WBCs can clamber in the same way. Sounds like a plan!

best of luck for today Jane,
let us know how you get on

My onc is lovely, a real gentle soul, hasn’t once mentioned weighing me, (actually maybe he has but as I can’t understand half of what he’s saying to me I’m just ignoring the fact). Freaked out slightly yesterday when I asked him how soon I start tamoxifen after chemo and he said’ well you’re having rads first so’… ‘WHAT!? no no I said , I got away with that one, you promised me, remember the mastectomy and clear nodes thingy’… oh sorry, my mistake he says…
I’m all for knitting, or crocheting, WBC, hey if they can knit kellogs shreddies! The only thing ive heard that may or may not work depends what you believe to help your count is manuka honey. I have the granocyte gremlin booked in to come and stay for 7 nights again next week, am giving him the smallest room with crispy bath towels and tinned tomatoes with his breakfast…Onc said he could prescribe me some co-codamol to help with the joint pain, be aware though it can cause constipation. ‘are you mad?’ I shriek,… I would be more bunged up than a rugby player with a broken nose and a heavy cold. I’ll stick with the ibuprofen and Shiraz cocktail thanks very much.
Off for some reiki this morning, time to rebalance those chakras me thinks, ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm,
If anyone’s in the JM tonight I’ll be the one plumped up on velvet beanbags with some incense burning around me and full of love for you all…
Hope the day is good for everyone, xxxx
Ha ha, just read the WBC exchange comment…bagsy the strapping 19 yr old from a small sun kissed island in the Mediterranean please… Xxx
Morning ladies and thank you for your warm welcome. I posted on Friday night and have to read about 10 pages to catch up on what’s been going on! Off to clinic appointment this morning before FEC2 tomorrow. So hoping the WBC is up so I can have it, it’s been delayed by a week, fingers and toes crossed!
Altough I would love to join the band, I really have zero talent in the musical department. Am happy to be a groupie ‘Lopsided Lis’. CoulD possible play the triangle at a Stretch!
Am hoping for a rather more successful shopping trip this afternooon. I went out on Saturday with the intention of buying brown high heels and a new bra (sooo fed up with the sports ones) and came back with 4 scatter cushions and a sea bass!
Best of luck to you Jane!
Lisa xx
Suggestions please as to how Lisa can convert four scatter cushions and a sea bass into a pair of shoes and a bra. One for the craft tent methinks!
Thank you for your good wishes - setting off in about an hour. the surgery list starts at 12 but goodness only knows where I am on it - knowing my luck I’ll be last.
Keep the cushions warm and plenty of tasty tidbits to hand please - I’ve taken my first pre-Tax steroids today so fully expect to be totally wired and starving by tonight.

Morning Alto,
Hope all goes well today, will be thinking of you.
Perhaps we need to think about a fenced in corral thing to herd wbc’s into and come to think of it we could have a side pen for stray eyebrows and runaway merkins!! (Am happy to construct, doing lots of renovation on our holiday place in France so have all sort of buildery skills now, as many of you will have noted with the new excellent soundproofed yurt!!)
Oooh feel a whole cowboy, “herd’em up, round em in” theme coming on!! In fact there could be a whole stetson cowboy boots fashion thing as well and maybe the odd tanned fit cowboy thrown in aswell!!
Better steady on a bit!!! will go and start gathering fencing panels for the WBC/eybrow/merkin pen!
Have a good day all
Wandyx
Hi everyone! I have been keeping up with you all over the past week but by the time I have caught up reading the thread I am too exhausted to write anything! I’m thinking the wbc exchange is a great idea as mine disappeareared almost completely 0.015. I’ve got plenty of red ones Cheryl so shall pass some over. If you need any help with the band, I could do roadie. I’ve got the bald, big midriff and butch look going on. You all reminded me about headwear so I have been on annabandana and ordered some. Such choice! hope the weather doesn’t change now I’m going for the Summery look. let’s get this wbc tent set up so no more delays for willing woodland warriors. x
Good luck Jane. Hope the wait is short and the experience isn’t unpleasant.
I look more like a roadie than a singer too–hey, if the guys can do fat and balding, why can’t we?
Ooh, dark handsome Mediterranean type red blood cells–please!
Or rugged cowboy ones, mmm!
Cheryl
Good luck for everyone today as I’m reading through a bit more…
Off to FEC 2 at lunchtime (well, if they are happy with the blood refusing to clot properly…). Can I take a rugged cowboy with me please?
Ann x
Alto hope it all goes well today, everything crossed for you! does anyone know how long ratty veins take to recover after treatment?
Think the blood count faries have all gorn orff on a course or something - hope they’re back for everyone soon.
I’m def a Roadie ‘type’ too & bu**gered by the sound of it, over 50 + post menopause and bmi the wrong side of 30 by a stone - and the healthy wagon’s been torched! Arggh…
Anyone got a sleep fariy they could spare tonight, spent most of last one feeling like I couldn’t breathe, what with that and the aches in my legs and ribs I didn’t get more than a couple of hours.
btw Loving the Scatter cushions and Sea bass result from the shopping trip , absolutly no idea how to magic them in shoes and a bra though - lmao
Good luck Alto - i’m guessing it will be done and dusted when you read this and hopefully straight forward.
I have a suggestion for sea bass and cushions: With the cushions string them together to form a bra. The sea bass can be used length ways (think hammock) for bottom part. You might need to clinch your buttocks together to keep the tail wedged in place but it will look good from the front. Might send this idea to Blue Peter, then when they do their annual appeal they can wheel out a BC victim wearing said items. “For just £1 you can help and sponsor a Breast Cancer Victim. Please give what you can, we might not be able to provide all with sea bass but we will be able to run to fish fingers.”
