Standing outside the dark, dark woods.

Since I sometimes feel like a lepper anyway ( do people realise BC is not contagious? Or that they do not have to purse their mouths like they are chewing paracetamol, and tilt their heads to one side, ‘How ARE you…?’), the fish is a good idea. People will be able to smell me from 100m’s, and take evasive action…

Jane and Ann, hope all has gone well xx

As far as the young, Mediterranean is concerned, ‘am I bovered?’ springs to mind in my case. For all you ladies who are ‘up for it,’ at this time, swilling a bit of Diflam mouthwash, taking your nightly steroids etc, and then leaping into a bit of marital action, you have my immense admiration…

Wow, everyone is right where do u start to catch up on everyone going on, firstly tho Good luck Alto with the Hickman hope u are all done and dusted and can up to the JM tonight, at least there are scatter cushions to rest up on. Whats this about wbc, red cells med types, hot blooded, wow im hot thinking of that! I have always gone for the red hot latin type, (though my OH is Indian I have had previous ermmmm u know… with …) anyway, is it normal to have low wbc on FEC1 i had a blood test last week and got the second one Thurs, hope all ok for the week after aswell so the FEC not delayed, just need to get over and done with

Oh I will need a very large drink in the JM tonight please will u join me, u see today is the day my waist length hair becomes neck length oh my god, at least im donating to this wonderful charity without which we would not be on this site…

That is such a great thing to be able to do Shar. I cannot imagine how long that took you to grow? Wow.
Are you still thinking of going to the Manchester younger woman’s forum? It is difficult to plan on chemo isn’t it?
If you are, I shall make sure it is a real drink we share, rather than the virtual ones at the JM!

Great idea bout the bra SCACO! Perhaps it could somehow be easily inserted and removed when needed and used to slap people round the head with? Insensitive nurses, making inappropriate remarks about weight gain? Rarely seen OH’s who walk in the kitchen while I’m catching up with the woods gossip and say’s ’ is that all you do these days?’ yes darling, other than looking after your children, shopping, cleaning, 35 mile school runs when I have the energy, hospital appts, etc… Yes it is all I do. Why what else should I be doing I ask?
’ you could give me some attention!!!’
I know! I am still astounded, flabbergasted at that one.
Oh alright sweet cheeks, I replied, I’ll just finish folding your washing, go run you a bath then how about a full Thai style massage before dinner, I’ll even wear that little silky number you like so much’
NOT!!!

Good Grief SB! Earlier in the thread someone asked about OH’s swinging on a scale from being rock to cock, with the middle ground being ‘crock’. Unfortunately this comment is def in the top end of ‘cock’. Poor you. Mind you, mine is booked in for the snip soon and we had a very serious conversation about the fact he needed to shave and presumed i’d do it!!! Aaah, bless. x

Sarah, I still remember a cartoon in the Saturday Evening Post from my childhood in the 50s, since reprinted in feminist literature.

A man is standing with his hat and coat on. His wife is sitting in a chair and reading. The house is in chaos, no meal, dirty dishes in the sink, the children fighting and the baby mauling the cat. She says ‘You know how you always say you don’t know what I do all day? Well today I didn’t do it.’

This must be online somewhere, I’ll see if I can find it as it’s such a classic. Some OHs may be discovering the truth of this soon!

My OH is obsessed with a holiday at the end of May that we booked about a year ago, but which 2 chemo nurses have told me they don’t think will be possible. I’ll try to find out whether this is for medical reasons or something else, but I wish he’d dry up about it for a bit. Among other things we’re talking southern Spain and I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the sun very much.

Cheryl

FEC 2 was splendid. Consultant in fits of giggles, which shows the effect I have on people!
Shar, good luck with the short hairdo…
Hubby is cooking tea. How afraid should I be?

Amber- however bad it is- say you love it! Mine’s cooking today as well and he’s definitely getting better!
Jane- hope everything sortd with line !
Sarah - ignore him for a few days lol
Oh better run- dinner ready see you later!!!

SCACO that is definitely redressing power balance. As u poise over his privates cut throat razor in hand… Maybe u should try it SB and then ask him to repeat his earlier comment (Bobbitt springs to mind if anyone remembers the particular female retaliation and need for male reconstructive surgery. Come to think about it, something of that type might help men to understand the body image impact of bc xx

Afternoon campers!

Wow - I go to work for the day and spend 30 mins catching up!

Hoping we’re all feeling fine after a lovely day of sunshine poking through the trees, is it some bluebells I see in the distance…No, it’s SB’s OH having a cold bath!!!

Cheryl - I’ve seen cartoon and done it to OH! He shut up and put the kids to bed for about a week after that one! I hope you can sort out your holiday!

Alto, I hope the WBCfairy did as she was told & didn’t buer off to the hospital coffee shop again, like she did with me. And the hickman went OK and you’re gently spaced out on the meds!

Shilvershah - Hope the haircut wasn’t too traumatic - well done for donating it. I’ve had wbc from FEC1 and it does seem to be rather common SE.

Had fits of laughter over the sea bass/ cushion ideas and loved the one from SCACO.

Ann, - hope FEC2 has gone painlessly and veins behaved and SE’s are minimal.

Peachez - I’ve sent a sleep fairy over - I found her in my local ysbyty coffee shop looking lost!

See you all down JM for a glass later!

I expect there’s another 3 pages for me to catch up on whilst I’ve been typing this

Well I’ve got to have a lie-down in the media tent again. There I was, wandering along West Wittering beach this morning with the dog and the other half, enjoying the calm, the waves lapping gently on the sand, the sun glowing gently in the haze, the Isle of Wight poking through the mist on the sea, when the phone rings. “Hello,” says the lady on the other end of the phone, “it’s the radio again, do you want to tell us what you’re up to at the moment?” So I did. The fame is getting to my head!

I’ll see if I can find a link if you’re interested but it’s nothing exciting.

Cm of course its exciting!!! radio fame! You milk it girl for all its worthxx

Please find me a space on those comfy cushions, with a massive supply of ibuprofen please. Not been a good day.

However the surgery gremlins were defintily on my case today.

Started off well - WBC back up to 1.99 so Tax 1 goes ahead tomorrow as planned.

I arrived at the day surgery ward at 12 as requested for my Hickman Line. Was seen by consultant who told me it could take as little as 10 minutes or up to an hour. I’d be going down at about 2. Finally went at 3.30.
Apparently my veins run in peculiar places (too close to arteries and they hide under my clavicle) and are also very small - described as delicate and ladylike (don’t laugh!) which might explain why they’ve been so badly hit by the FEC witch. He injected local in about three or four places (a small scratch he said - ha! There speaks a man who’s never had it injected that deeply with a needle fit for an elephant!)

Couldn’t get the line in anywhere near my shoulderblade due to peculiar veins so cue more local jabs and he tried rooting around for the vein a bit further over. No joy. tried at the base of my neck. More local jabs, more rooting, still no joy.

By now I was in tears, my ECG had started to go wobbly and I was, to put it mildyly, stressed. Finally got sedation , although only very slight.

he was determined to get it in as my veins are so bad and I needed it for tomorrow. So, more locals and a fourth try, higher up on neck. Success finally, and relief all round. The other hole to get the line out on my boob was a doddle.

Came out of theatre after 1 and 3/4 hours, into recovery ward. Then had a chest X ray which found that the line was in too far (fairly common) so off came the dressings, out came the stitches on both holes, in went more local anaesthetic. Then a bit of tugging, more stitches, more dressings and an hour weight for another x ray as the machine had been whizzed off elsewhere.

Finally got home at 8.15 pm, feeling totally slegdehammered and in pain. Roll on the ibuprofen.

Still at least I can use it tomorrow and the poorlyarm gremlin has hopefully been well and truly kicked into orbit.

Just need to wait a few months now for my poor veins to recover, but at least now the Hickman fairy will wave its magic (if a little tarnished after today) wand and all will be well.

Sorry no dancing on the bar at the JM for me tonight - a nice cup of horlicks is about my limit!

Thanks oodles for all the good wishes - at least it’s done now and for anyone else comtemplating it, I was a bit of an exception so don’t let it put you off!

Oh you poor thing, that’s truly horrid, as if we don’t have to go through enough already. Really hope you get a comfortable nights sleep before tomorrow. And hopefully it will be a quick stress free painless tax. Sending you
Lots of good vibes. Xxx
Finally saw my oh on tele, realised he had missed most of filming as he was home doing parent duties after my recon surgery. It was a quick glimpse of him standing in the corner of the studio pulling an unimpressed face, nothing new there then!
Pre chemo bloods for me bright and early, let’s hope WBC fairy has done her stuff this time.
It’s quiet in the pub tonight…pork scratching anyone???
SB x

Oh, Jane! I just hope you are rewarded with an easy time with Tax1. You deserve it.

It hasn’t been the best day for me, but nothing like your ideal. I’ll join you with a hot drink, but I might risk a tot of rum in mine.

Let’s hope tomorrow is better.

Cheryl

Jane,
Sending you good vibes and best wishes for tomorrow for TAX.

Sleepwell fairy on her way

Alto, that sounds really unpleasant, I’m so sorry you had such a bad time. Even with a ton and a half of sedation the portacath insertion wasn’t exactly pleasant, but I would have completely freaked if I’d had to go through what you did today. You brave camper, you!

Best of luck for tomorrow’s Tax, I hope it doesn’t flatten you completely.

Right then, I’m off to my pit. I didn’t have a snooze today and I’ve done a lot of driving, so I’m a bit pooped. Just a swift half on my way back to my tent is all I can manage.

Night all!

CM

Sorry I had to rush away! Dinner then visitors- had to spruce the place up a bit lol My wee brother and his wife - so good to see them.
So sorry about your ordeal Jane!Hope things go better from now on.Hope you’re not too bad after Tax!
Bloods tomorrow and decision when my next chemo will be! Fingers crossed it’s soon. Can’t believe I’m actually asking to be poisoned but sooner it’s all over the better!
Right quick large Bacardi and coke at the JM then bed before tomorrows ordeals start.

Aargh! where’s the flippin’ sleepwell fairy then? Think she’s bogged off wth the steroid gremlin and they’re both dancing a hooley behind the surgery tent.

Time to pop an ibuprofen for my poor old pincushioned body. it’s either that or a large gin…

Typing on a Kindle is sooo fiddly but better than going downstairs for my netbook!
