Standing outside the dark, dark woods.

Hi Alto,

It may be completely unrelated but on one of the rads threads someone recommended betacarotene for preventing scarring in rads. On the basis there are only so many carrots a person can eat (although I did find some nice carrot and tropical juice in Sainsbugs) I invested in some Holland & B supplements. Just noticed they say “boost immune system” and certainly through all of rads etc when my kids have stinking colds, I seem to be getting through unscathed. Maybe it is chance, or maybe betacarotene is helping? xx

Janipi, get out the loungers! I’ve just joined you in the glade at the end of Rads Rushes, last one done this morning!!

Alto and Cheryl: I’ve been rubbing BioOil into my fingernails twice a day and am avoiding getting them too wet – even started wearing rubber gloves for washing up and cleaning – unheard of before! They look awful they are not too brittle. My toe nails are another story altogether! Yuk! My hair seems to have stalled though, the fluff has grown in length, but the stubble seems to have made no progress.
Bum :frowning:

Choccie, where do you find these fantastic pics?! This one really gets across how you feel, and justifiably so too, how bl**dy infuriating!

MG, I’ve got my fingers crossed for your results today. I drank juice made with apples and carrots every morning during Chemo and never had any trouble with my Newts, so there may well be something in the beta-carotene thing…

JoC, I think it’s Fec that really does your veins in, Tax is not so bad for them. I have heard that Pumpkin seeds and Papaya are both good for getting your Newts up too, maybe worth a try?
Ninja, glad your mouth is feeling better; a girls got to be able to get some Baileys and chocolate down now hasn’t she?

Now then, having ordered a new patio set from M&S (being delivered tomorrow) do you think we’ll have any more sunshine before the Autumn?? Haven’t got a parasol yet though, so s*ds law could still go either way…

I’ve got some ridging on some nails, but they’re mainly chipping and snapping at the ends, so I’m resigned to having short nails for a a few months. I’m trying not to look at my toenails, which are not beautiful at the best of times. I have got some oil which is meant to be good for cuticles and the skin around the nails, I just have to remember to use it.

Why couldn’t we have had a cold, rainy winter and early spring when I couldn’t do much anyhow? My OH, who is a ‘turn the heating off in March’ type actually turned it on yesterday, our house was so cold.

If we’re having a hen night, I think we need a good line-up of entertainment–PB, CF, DC and so on. Just don’t let them try to sing. The Twisted Nipples will come out of retirement to provide the music.

Cheryl

Having thoroughly depressed myself by looking at my size 12 summer dresses in the attic, I can only get consolation from the fact that it will probably rain next week anyway! Size 12 looking a distant memory right now- for bottom half def need a 16! Must be mad but going camping for real on Saturday for a week, last chance to have a full week away before changing to weekly chemo, but why didn’t I stick to my guns and book the dog into kennels and a ferry to France? Oh well, DH knows best! Just hoping it is not too cold as like some others have mentioned I tend to get very shivery around the mid- chemo stage - will pack sweaters and a big cuddly blanket.
Feeling very bored today - not enough energy to get much done, but really can’t face sitting about doing nothing! Slowly doing some housework.
I hope everyones neutrowhatsits are returning home ready for next stabbings ( purely to avoid further unwanted stabbings of course). So pleased to see that you are on the mend Ninja, and that the gloom is lifting a little bit for Jo C.
MG hope all is well with your scans and the results are through quickly.
Those resting in the glades beyond rads rushes - enjoy your relaxation on the loungers it is well earned!

Afternoon All,

After the downpour that was yesterday I have emerged from my tent to face the world. I cleaned up the custard and crisps from the tunnel but it’s still a bit slippery so be careful.

My armpit sends its regards and is feeling quite chipper. I, on the other hand am bored. Bored, bored, bored, bored, bored bored, boring, boring boring, bored, boooored, booooring. Bored.

As you were. x

I am currently blowing the entire contents of my skull out of my nose (sorry!)

Please send tissues.

LOTS of tissues.

Don’t come too close - use the isolation tent’s double airlock and wear a spacesuit to avoid contamination.

Jane :frowning:

SCACO you sound like my 7 year old daughter who is currently sitting opposite me saying I’m bored! However you have a good excuse, she on the other hand doesn’t and is driving me insane! Nice to see you emerge from your tent, we have missed you round here.
Alto I have sent the tissue fairies in your direction, I tried to send PB back but he refused saying he didn’t want to catch it, sorry. He did mention something about singing to help you get better but its ok I taped his mouth shut again so we are all safe for a bit.

I’m feeling very juvenile i’m afraid, but it is soooooooooooooo boring. I need to think of something to do for the rest of this week. I found something to paint today - will find something else tomorrow.

Hair! It’s coming back. Either that or my scalp has turned dark brown. I’m leaving a trail of hair-mousse through the woods to my tent, up my body and onto my head in the hope that i can tempt more to come and stay. So if you see me with a gigantic Mr Whippy head it’s for that reason and that reason only.

Alto - i’ve sent NE to your rescue (you can thank me later). he has copious amounts of tissues and cold relief, which he will deliver personally. He looks quite keen to ‘help’ you out, I’m hoping he’s not looking for revenge now that you are incapacitated, afterall you have been quite enthusiastic in the Noel bashing activity. Shout, sniff, cough, sneeze (in any order) and i’ll come and chuck him out.

Now then, where was I? Oh yes…bored, bored, bored, boooooring…

Bored! Yes very! Yes I also found a little bit of painting to do too (brightening up an old bedside table) then a little bit of weeding in the garden but really really need something interesting to do that takes up some time! Oh a little bit of light releif when DH managed to pick up a virus on the laptop (e-bay again) and been trying to sort out flaming McAfee to see why it isn’t doing it’s job properly, but really I would rather not have this as the highlight of my day…
Oh did have a very nice pair of shoes delivered from John Lewis this afternoon, so day hasn’t actually been completely bad!

Seems like the general trend in the woods is up. Had my PICC line fitted today. Nurse was really good and she cleaned and anaesthetised two veins, just in case. The first one refused to play but the second one slid in nicely. Blood everywhere, which is good apparently. So I’m clamping a hottie on my arm to keep my veins squidgy. Was so relieved. My neuts last Wed were 0.3 on Friday 0.8 so hopefully I’ll be feced this Friday, a week late, but through my picc line. Hurray.

Will now go and hide in the camaflage (spell) tent as OH is doing the filing and making grumpy noises as i’ts my job. Don’t tell him where I am.

Hurrah!

Shall we have a PICC party?

I had to find a patent vein for the MRI today and the one being lent to me didn’t turn up in time. So I had a nice warm bath first and then went for a ‘campo’ in the Cancer Centre’s Costa coffee just before the MRI. It worked! They usually put the cannula for the contrast agent in the crook of the arm but I showed her the invisible veins on one side and the haematoma on the other. Then the loud and proud veins I’d prepared for her on the back of my hands. It hurt a bit more doing it there but the alternative was my foot (shudder).

The MRI was easier the second time round cos I knew what was coming.

Time for the JM?

Hiya Hipchick - Please can I come and join you to escape 2 grumpy teenagers asked to do the washing up? Got a sore shoulder from having my hickmann whipped (& yes I do mean Whipped) out, so went for sympathy vote - now v grumpy DD & DS!

Alto - I’ll get NE to bring some single malt for you to gargle with too, that’ll definitely kill off all the germs plus You’ll know when you’re getting better 'cos you be able to taste it!!

Think I’ll be joining the bored clan once Rads start as can’t work then, but in true Baldrick fashion I have a plan! The garage will never be the same again is the general idea, whether this comes off remains to be seen, I think I’ll need loan of all the housework fairies and the getridofthecr@pwarlock too!

PW - didn’t realise eBay sold viruses, was that where Alto got her cold from?

Gradually climbing out of limbo land here as off to become a “treasure map” or dot-the-dot tomorrow. Always wanted a tattoo but too chicken, now getting 4 free from nhs!

Hope Ninja is feeling OK today and hasn’t been carted back to Stalug 2 again.

See you all down the JM later for a glass!

Love
XXHelenXX

thank you so much for the offers of whiskey, tissues and medications various, but please will you take NE back as he’s starting to make me nauseous.

Troy, I don’t know who gave me this uber-cold but I hope they’re currently rotting in the deepest, slimiest pit imaginable, with gremlins slowly pulling out their fingernails with pliers.

Not that I’m vindictive you understand.

Jane xxx

It’s a rotten one, isn’t it, Alto?

Those suffering from boredom are welcome to come help me put books, folders and teaching materials back on shelves (How did I ever get that much on them in the first place?) after the central heating people had to have it all moved out of the way.

If I knew for sure whether I’ll be doing come September, I could either throw most of it out or reduce it to what I’d be likely to need.

Cheryl

Why wouldn’t this post earlier?

Alto can you send NE over to me please, I need someone to kick up the bum as my OH has spent all evening snoring on the sofa grrrrrrrrrrrr and to think I am marrying that in a few days, I’ll bet he won’t be tired on the day and the party’s on lol.
Ok I’m going to the JM for a nightcap and then shower and off to bed, I have an exciting day tomorrow I am going to pick my dress up ooooooerrrrrrrrrr.
See you in there.

"Why wouldn’t this post earlier? "

The site server was dropping out a lot.

Well I’ve had a busy busy day out of the woods.

Took teen to the doc because she’s got some disgusting abcess thing on her earlobe. Won’t go into detail, but SCACO, are you sure that’s actually custard in the tunnel and not the eugh that came out of DD’s ear? Eeeew, it’s gross. Anti-b’s for her then!

After that yuckiness I then packed my bag and trotted along to see the lovely BCC peeps for their photoshoot. So at some stage ladies, if you get the BCC Vita magazine you may well see my smiling face beaming out at you.

I’m feeling very chipper today, so avatar is going to change to the darling Gail Porter, who I think truly IS inspirational to those of us who lose our hair. Good on ya, Gail! She’s also an ambassador for a fave charity of mine that makes wigs for kids (Littleprincesses.org.uk in case you’re interested) so cheers Gail, you really ARE a star.

As my treat for being such a photogenic babelicious darling, I allowed my car to take me off the A406 into that blue and yellow Swedish shop, and I had a hOOOOOge plate of meatballs and gravy and berries. Mmmmm, I can taste them now - delish! AND I was a reasonably good girl and didn’t let the credit card combust with over-use. (I used my debit card instead. Ha!)

Then when I got home I drove my big boy (24) and a carful of his stuff to his new house. Finally got home after a very busy day at lord alone knows what time. Knackered, but a fun day.

Onwards and upwards! (Until FEC6, of course!)

Hey CM, you sound MUCH better
I am finally starting to feel human again after ECking number 3.
It’s taken 2 whole weeks to crawl out of the blackness (and to stay out of Stalagluft 2).

This week, I have hypnotherapy and a massage at the Macmillan centre to look forward to. That’ll be interesting. I think I may have Shiatsu and counselling at some point, too, diary’s downstairs. I have to cram everything into week 3!

Good luck to everyone being poisoned, RADed, otherwise probed or having SEs this week.

Hi all,

The fec 6 fog has finally lifted  Yesterday was the 1st day where i didn’t feel like going back to bed by 11 am & actually managed to catch up on all sorts of things.

Have got my Rads planning through for this Friday to start the 29th June, 20 rads plus 5 boosters on end, am off on holiday for a week with my daughter on Saturday so its all fitting in nicely.

Tis my daughters 21st tomorrow so looking forward to a nice meal out & a few drinks, am so glad i have more energy.

So much to look forward to over the coming months, besides the holiday i have a weekend in York with Lif & others, Take That in July,a girlie weekend in Butlins with friends & of course our Reading luncheon & then a camping trip with family & friends in August, am also doing the Relay for life at the end of July with some girls from a local support group here in Bournemouth  life is all good at the mo

Love & hugs to all receiving chemo/rads/surgery/post surgery

Sarah/Bev.xxxx

Ps, i should add that in the middle of the above I head into Tamoxifen Towers, I have my 1st packet that i am due to start the 27th June.

Glad the fog is lifting for some. 021210 just reading everything you have planned makes me feel exhausted but it sounds like you have a very good summer planned.
I have just taken my dexamethasone ready for 1st tax tomorrow, am very nervous about it and I am supposed to be starting Herceptin too, talk about double whammy. Does anyone know if you can take sleeping tablets at the same time as the steroids? I am not the best sleeper anyway and the thought not being able to sleep all night cos of the steroids is not a good one. The gremlins always find me in the night, I can usually keep them at bay during the day.
Alto I hope you are feeling less snotty today.
Good luck to all those being poisoned, vampired, or anything else.
