Standing outside the dark, dark woods.

Greetings to Cackles and Mavis and welcome.

I am also a woodie from yesteryear, now frolicking around in the meadows in the sunlight and meeting up with Alto and others in Tamoxifen Towers. We have marked the path through the woods and return every now and again for raucous nights in the JM and to wield our flamethrowers to any gremlins which lurk in the woods.

Welcome, and if at any point you are in need of drinking buddies in the JM or the shoulder of someone from the land of NED to show that there is a well trodden path through the woods to the world beyond bc, just hoist the “two fingered salute” woodies flag a little higher and we will return to help you on your way xx

Good evening to all woodies,

Havn’t posted for a few days but still reading the posts and laughing along.

Knitting a cardigan at the moment but may knit a matching merkin now I know exactly what one is thought that was what it was but we lead a sheltered life in Zummerzet only trouble is the wool is a bit of a ginger colour. (sorry red heads out there)

Thrilled to have new woodies! I thought I was going to be left all on my own in here for a while!!

I have been out and about today with Buggerit hiding the jam jars near the lagoon to trap the newts. Caught quite a few last month which helped to push my newt count up to 5.5 which compared to 5.3 before I started chemo and 0.01 7 days after my first chemo is pretty good!! In fact all my blood counts are now higher than before I started. I think this goes to show that my body is an incredible machine!!

Okay - going to patrol the perimeter fencing now to make sure the negative gremlins cant get in.

Welcome indeed to this wonderful mad place! ST, you and Buggerit are doing a good job. I’m in the land of real ale, temporarily, so sending draught beer to anyone who fancies some tonight. Soddit refuses to chase anything off tonight - curled up on my lap. Hope his persistent fleas don’t find their way into my merkin!!
PS Alto, that knitted merkin is unreal!

Knitted Merkins are best in a wood, one needs light to make a real one,the knotting needle is extremely fine and 6 human hairs at a time are knotted into sterilised fish skin(just like knotting a rug)ruins your eyesite!!Thank God we only did a short demonstration and talk, students fell about laughing at its possible uses!!The wig expert at my Oncology centre was one of my students,a wierd experience, with lots of hugs,i am so proud of the joy he brings to all in the centre,he is well loved, treats me with such defference,he would be so shocked to see me cavorting in this wonderful mad place, were I can shake my feathers(still got feathers)even though my follicles are screaming!!!Found a good use for my knotting needle, negative gremlin stabbing,is it allowed to throw them into the Lagoon?Tea tree oil on the Merkin will keep Soddits fleas at bay.Thankyou all so much for your lovely welcome,Growing Old is Mandatory,Growing Up is Optional!!
Mavis

Sterilised fish skin! Well - that’ll explain the smell…

Oh Alto, that Merkin is something else, I nearly spat out my cup of tea…

Welcome Mavis, sounds like you’re already settled in…

Had to laugh tonight, my mum has returned from a week in Londinium and was outside a bar before Tottenham were playing last week and the hoards of opposing fans were outside drinking, when my mum’s friend naievly (sp?) asked some of the guys if they were all on a ‘stag do’, my mum crumpled… funniest thing I’ve heard for a week or so…

Supertrooper can I borrow buggerit to fish for newts in my well? To have kept them so high in the middle of the dreaded T is wonderful. I don 't think I will be able to knot a Merkin if reports of aching talons is to be believed. My friend Sivam seems to be an expert at so perhaps she can help me now we have come out of the shadows. I think we will be in the JM and patisserie yurt for many months. Hopefully we will become serene swans gliding on the lagoon as the months go by having passed our endurance test.
Back to my nest now to sleep…if only…

You’ll be surprised Cackles! It’s like limbo at the time but all of a sudden you’re on the other side and wonder where the time has gone!-and you’ve got hair !!!Only thing is you might put on weight because of all the goodies you eat on here or maybe it’s the steroids?
I’m going to play with Harry Potter and Mickey mouse for a couple of weeks but if you need a hand to shift the gremlins I’ll bring my bagpipes and scare them off when I come back.Or maybe you’d rather keep the Gremlins lol
See you soon

Feel free to borrow Buggerit to fish for newts - he’s very good at that but he does tend to slobber over everything, but slobber covered newts are better than no newts at all.

Mavis - anything goes with the gremlins - stab them all you want with your knotting needle, just stand back a bit as they tend to spurt out putrid stinking negative odours.

I am making the most of the fact that my darling taste buds have returned home after running off at the first sign of TAX last month. I have persuaded them to stay until the 12th and promised to reward them with lots of tasty alcoholic drinks and foods. They have warned me that there are side effects that will cause my clothes to shrink and my bathroom scales to lie to me - but I know that side effects are transient - and these too will pass.

Hello ladies, its so nice to see some friendly familiar faces and of course some new ones, I do hope that you are all feeling as well as possible and that the SE’s are minimal.
As you can gather I escaped the woods for a while and got on with life, but and this is a big but, I’ve found that as you’ve all been such a big part of my life since my diagnosis in March that I just cannot seem to stay away, and have been popping in regularly to have a read and make sure you’re all behaving yourselves.
Blimey how sad am I lol.
Anyways, all fine here so far, I’m back at the hospital on the 13th for ultrasounds and to check out that suspicious shadow on my other breast and make sure its not developed into something more sinister.
Fingers crossed its ok, but if its the worse then I’m prepared and know that I can deal with it all.
Lovely to see you all and I’m looking forward to lots of chats with you all.
Anyone for a catch up in the JM tonight ?

Eunice x

Hi Eunice,

Will try to pop into the JM later although life has a habit of getting in the way (whisper it quietly but I am back at work and going out socially and things which are “normal”) Seemed hard to imagine back in January when I was diagnosed but I feel pretty good, tam not having any great SEs and gradually picking up the threads of life.)

Hope your scan goes well. Hate the scanxiety which goes with scans and waiting for results and that the shadow is nothing to worry about xx

Right. Big news fellow woodies.

I had my waist length dark curly hair cut short in January in preparation for starting chemo. I had my last chemo (Tax) on 4th May.

On October 11th I will be having my HAIR CUT!!!

It’s grown oh-so-slowly and is still a bit dandelion clock / owl baby in appearance, very fine and fluffy, but I think it’s time for a neaten-up.

Went to see my hairdresser today and she was so pleased to see me!

So it’s hooley night tonight down the JM in celebration. Crabbies, London Pride, Drambuie, Limoncello - whatever takes your fancy - it’s on the house!

Jane xxx

I’ll drink to that! It’s sometimes the little milestones that mean the most.

My tipple of choice tonight… Maybe a vodka martini? Or shall I just stick with the large glass of sauvigion blanc?

Dx

Mine’s a forest fruits mojito!

Vodka martin AND Sauvignon Blanc ready to go - just sorting out the Mojito and we’re off.

Jane xxx

Yes please, mo-hee-toe (Havana 7 in mine) and a drambuie nightcap for me, por favor x

Donning earplugs tonight in-case there is noise from late night revellers in the JM, I’m up early for heart scan and Rads first thing in the morning, only woke at 11am today (unusual for me) - not sure if it was the sleep fairy visiting but I think it is too early for Rads fatigue to kick in yet??

Hic!

Mmmmm… ice cold Limoncello… someone get PB to pour me another…

Alto - wonderful to see it-save the cuttings and I will go into the wood get some resin and stick them to my poor balding scalp.
Marym have a super time with Mickey And Harry wish I could resist the cakes and pies but my rugby ball shape is being blamed on the steroids. I love the bagpipes but my husbands playing of them would clear the JM. I gave him some as a joke for his birthday, but sometimes I regret it!!!
Mine’s a large Gin
