Tracey, are you insinuating something? I hope you’re not talking about me!
I’m busy with a swimming competition I’m organising and I SHOULD be printing stuff at the moment, but I’m on here instead! Oh, the draw of the Jingling Merkin, the Limbo swamp and the Cold Cap twins, Shall-I and Shan’t-I!
Fortunately (for me, anyway) the ClearMargins fairy and her boyfriend, Results Monster, are busy torturing some other poor soul, though Results Monster will no doubt be back to bother me following my MUGA scan, but BringItOn is close at hand in my game of HuntThePortacath.
Yes the Clearmargins fairy and results monster are busy torturing me! Re-excision this week (finally). Dare I ask what a MUGA scan is CM? I haven’t ever been scanned but still have a pain under my shoulder blade on the WLE bc side. BCN says it’s most likely how I was lying on operating table that has trapped a nerve but will need a scan if it doesn’t wear off <sighs> but no idea which scan is which or what they’d do xx</sighs>
Just wanted to wish you all the best for your re-ex this week. 24th isn’t it? I’m in next Monday 28th. I have also got some pain under my shoulder blade and collar bone, haven’t said anything cos just thought it was part of internal healing?? Its so difficult isn’t it to find the balance between worrying unnecessarily and being cautious and on top of any future worries…
CM I too want to know what a MUGA scan is???!!!
Saw your posting on the Southern Coffee, can’t make it this time, Woudl love to,but hopefully there will be another one. I think we might be in the same area, am also nr guildford and am being treated at Royal Surrey.
Anyway MG, chin up and we’ll stay in touch, CM I think has been there ahead of us!!
hi all
I am an old hand at scans… a muga scan is to see what your heart function is. You have a radio active dye injected and then 20 mins later have another jab. Then they lie you on a table and scan you. Its not as bad as it sounds but you have to avoid expetant mums and young children for a bit afterwards.
I have just got my first pair of varifocals and am nodding up and down like one of those dog toy thingies in the back of a car window. Wierd! I am told it can take up to a fortnight to become used to them. Fantastic!
Good luck for Thursday MG. Thinking of you.
x sarah
Sarah - re the varifocals. it does take a few days to get used to them, but it is worth it. If you can do bc treatments, getting used to varifocals is as easy as blinking in comparison. I found I felt a bit nauseous if I was constantly changing between distance and close to vision, so if you feel like that, try to keep your eyes focused in one place for a bit.
Stella xx
Sarah, my OH got varifocals a couple of years ago, and during the first fortnight I was convinced that they were going to be taken off and stamped on, as he just could not get his head around wearing them! He did get there tho, so persevere - cos if my OH can get used to something ‘new’… anyone can. He still can’t work the dvd/sky remote/dishwasher unless someone is watching…
Sarah, I got my first pair of varifocals a few months ago and absolutely love them. I was told not to drive in them for the first few days but it only took a couple of days to get used to them and now it feels strange to wear my prescription sunglasses which aren’t varifocal.
Feeling pretty good today, although suffering a serious attack of the jealousy gremlin at my friend who had her last Tax chemo this week. Harumph. I’m not even halfway through and she’s out dancing on the other side of the woods. Definitely need a whiskey and ginger at the JM tonight. Medicinal purposes only, you understand.
Sarah, good luck. I feel like I have varifocals on anyway with chemo…put the two together…it does not bear thinking about!
MG- hope all goes well for Thurs if I don’t post again before then. I must say, I sometimes find it hard to remember who is at what stage (myself included on a bad day), so apologies to anyone i have missed…
Got the hamster out again earlier, but, relegated once again to the wardrobe. It is just not me, the whole wig thing. Horrors of it coming off! Trying to be something I am not…or simply feeling like I have to wear it to fit the ‘norm.’ so that is it. Done. I will wear it for my brother’s wedding, which i realise is not all about me, don’t think they are going for the merkined biker chick look! However, as I was relegating the aforesaid rodent to the cupboard, I was assailed by another one - my bald, pink, and now slightly fluffy head. I, in fact, resemble, a new born mouse, realized. It’s not a good look, even for a mouse really.
Anyway, have a sudden craving for a nice piece of cheese…
Tracey
Have had pain on Mx side getting worse all week. This morning noticed two red patches an inch above Mx scar, been to a skin mets thread and sounds similar and looks scarily like pictures on gooole of skin mets :-((( Now in the shadow of the biggest ‘I’mGoingToDie’ monster you have ever seen… HELP!
Peachez, that could be cellulitis. I had it after FEC1 - very painful and red and it can lead to septicaemia so get in touch with your BCN/chemo unit/GP asap, whichever is quicker. My GP didn’t prescribe strong enough antibiotics and I got very ill indeed before I was put on a huge dose by my onc a couple of days later.
If you’re worried, get it looked at asap! Now! Or 30 lashes will be in order!!
Peachez,
Will get the flame thrower…
Go and see/call bc nurse asap to put your mind at rest. However, think that it is perhaps unlikely to be anything sinister whilst you are undergoing chemo?
Is your skin hot? Have you got a temperature?
Tracey
Peachez - Have just socked the I’mGoingToDie gremlin right in the mush. I haven’t had my mx yet, or looked at the googled images, or seen your skin so not going to give you a platitude of ‘don’t worry’ - have you called the helpline on here? i haven’t used it but reading other’s posts it sounds very helpful (useful being as it’s a helpline), they might be able to throw light on it. damn nuisance that you would feel like this on a sunday - is there anyone you could call at your hosp?
Try not to google anymore, it always throws up something awful.
I was in panic mode last week with pains in my shoulder, which of course i’d convinced myself was bone mets. It wasn’t but it’s natural for us to feel paranoid. My doc suggested i take a paracetamal and see if it went! Feel like i’m past that being as i have cancer!! So phoned consultant’s secretary who arranged an appointment for the next day. If you haven’t already decided to do this i suggest you do tomorrow.
No temp, but skin is a bit hotter than the other side, WHY is it always on a weekend when all the phone lines are closed, that these things happen??? Thank you for your support ladies. Am too frightened to move from the armchair at the mo. Will leave message on BCNs answerphone and hope to hear from her tomorrow… got palpitations now…
Just phone them Peachez, it’s their job- they really do not want you to be in this much panic, and nor do we. It may be you need antibiotics for an infection, in which case sooner rather than later is always best. You won’t know till you see someone,
Tracey
Thanks all. Calmed down enough to take the dog for a walk. Have left messages and am chanting to myself that it’s probably cellulitis. Will be keeping a careful watch on my temp tonight and take a tramadol for the pain (((hugs))) back for all your support.
If there’s an investment banker out there, could we woodland warriors get some shares in a tissue company please??
Sorry about this latest scare. Isn’t it horrible how everything seems like it is something sinister. I haven’ had an mx only a wle but they did talk about the possibility of infections and needing antibiotics if you get one. I’d have thought as others have said that if you are having chemo it would be keeping anything else in check and is more likely to be linked to the surgery but it is still horrible for you and needs checking.
You have done the right thing in contacting your BCN and getting it checked asap tomorrow but if it could be something which needs urgent treatment and you aren’t happy, could you possibly go into A & E just to check there isn’t anything that you should be doing something about. There will be an duty doc and usually they have people on-call if they feel that it is something which needs to be treated with antibiotics quickly xx
Hi Peachez - walking the dog is always a good move, so hope it’s helped. Don’t hang around tomorrow waiting for your bcn to call you back… you’ll drive yourself to distraction, get on the phone first thing and keep on until you get an appointment to be seen. Not that I think it’s life or death, but simply that you need your mind putting at rest, and antibiotics of the strong variety if it needs those. Repeat after me ‘I am entitled to make a fuss until someone listens’. We have the rest of our lives to slowly become less paranoid… let’s make the most of being allowed to shriek and squawk and stamp our feet for immediate attention.
Lots of booze waiting in the JM for you, first couple of rounds on me.
Got to walk the dog to the Vet first thing (no chance of puppies after)and before BCNs line is open again, so will be calling in from mobile on the way back,
and if I feel ill tonight or get a temp or it gets any worse, I’ll steel myself for A&E - Promise xxxx See you in the JM later…
