starting chemo in January 2012

Hi everyone. Angel18 Omg don’t no how you made yourself sick but as long as you feel better who cares! Hope you remain ok x x
Lol Clare me too my hair is disgusting looks a bomb site but thankfully no loss as yet. But my scalp is sore, i have fingers toes and everything else crossed hoping it doesn’t fall out. X x
Hi needahug don’t worry about late reply. Pfft typical bloke Hey. I bet mine would be same!
Marina it is crazy how much mess the munchins make. Within 5 mins of them being home house is a bomb site! My lil munchkin was fine this morning a good night sleep in my bed and she is right as rain. The cheeky monkey!
As getting 2nd dose decided to get OH his Valentine’s stuff today i had a funny trip to Ann summers! As who knows how Will feel. I think after 2nd one we Will know if pattern is the same for each cycle? I’ve not got too much of an appetite since starting juicing does anyone else find this? Not a bad thing i guess. Wonder if that’ll change?

Glad everyone is doing OK. Angel, sorry you’ve been sick, maybe ask for a stronger anti sickness tablet? I think that is one side effect they can control quite effectively. Wish there was a pill for smelly farts too! I will ask the nurse Friday…

Well, I did a little work today (work work). It was an ‘emergency’ which I couldn’t see, maybe they’ve just missed me! Hahahaha! Quite proud of myself, remembered my passwords and everything. Opened my mail as well, 867 unread mail - closed it in a hurry.

The treatment that keeps giving has given me a terrible indigestion for today. I can live with it but it is interfering with my usual (or should I say unusual?) food consumption so I have been rather good on the eating front today.

MaryC, I have the opposite problem! I am STARVING all the time! ALL the time! I eat from noon (for some strange reason can’t eat before that) until I go to bed. Afraid I will catch a cold, I open fridge / freezer that often!

Leg hair - I usually epilate mine. Last night I was putting moisturiser on after shower (do you find your skin dryer? I do…) and when I was rubbing the cream onto my leg the hairs fell out. Not all but it is an improvement. So, at least in my case, leg hair does fall out, praise be!

I can hardly believe it but it is almost time for my second juicing. I have blood appointment on Friday at 7:30 (I ask you, who came up with this? 7:30!! That is going to *kill* me, I am not a morning person) - I don’t anticipate any problems, I feel fine in myself. TOUCH WOOD.

Some friends are coming for a visit tomorrow (not staying with me though) so I am glad this is my good week. Sister is back on Sunday and I am missing her company now. It will change come Monday, I am sure!

A good evening to all - I am off to the movies tonight. Sherlock Holmes! Quite enjoyed the first one, hope the second one is just as good!

Julianna

Hi All

It sounds like everyone is bearing up quite well. Can’t believe I’m having my second juicing tomorrow. Where has the time gone. Had bloods taken at the GPs this morning so hopefully this should speed up the process.

Good luck to all new starters and those about to embark on second treatment.

Love Debbie xxx

Hi everyone
Well my cold decided to take a vicious turn and I ended up in hospital. I felt a bit rough monday but no temp. Then yesterday morning I felt like s**t and temp 38 so rang hospital. They were great. I had a nice cubilcle ready for me and the nurse Emma who gave me my chemo was working on the ward and really looked after me. Ended up have some IV antibiotics but now changed to tablets as my bloods were ok. Had to stay overnight cos temp stayed high but back home now. Met another nurse who knows Lulu from December group. Small world. They think it was a chest infection though it did feel odd being in hospital for a cold.

Just hope I will be ok for juice next week.

Well i am still alive, if feeling a bit fuzzy and sick. Not atually been sick though. Angel - i wish i could make myself sick!! Prob would feel better!

Nausea came on about 5 hours later, but i am now due some tablets.

Half a mug of veg soup has taken me half an hour to eat and still not finished!! hand sore too, but that’s just me moaning!! off to bed soon, head under pillow X

Hi everyone I am finding this thread very helpfull,so thankyou everyone for all your comments.I had my first chemo along with herceptin on the 17th Jan it was a very long day but got through it,the nurses that looked after me that day were fantastic and I have no complaints.First two days after was fine(except for constipation) and then day 3 I felt really weak.and yes ladies all the same symtoms as you guys have kicked in today is day 8 and beginning to feel better except for my stomache which feels bloated and a slight loss of appetite, but still eating although the mouth ulcers don’t help. Also waiting on the hair loss.next treatment is 7th feb, hoping it get’s easier.Good Luck To All.

Hi All
It seems like ages ago i first messaged on here, but I’ve finally got my start date, the 31st. Think I may join februarys thread. I will keep popping back ,because reading what you’ve been going through and how your all coping with different side effects has been really helpful.
Good luck to you all

hi all,

i’ve had some hair loss today. run my fingers through my hair and quite a lot has come out. gonna give it a wash tomorrow and see how much i lose. most of it is still firmly attached so i’m hoping i still have a decent coverage. fingers crossed!!!

been and bought a wig i was wanting today so that’s 2 i’ve got now. i’m well prepared but really don’t want to lose all my hair as i’m sure non of us do.

thank you everyone for the well wishes, i hope everyone else is as well as can be

xxxx

Lynzi, I’ve read that your hair thins out but you still have enough left to look like you, when using the cap. Fingers crossed for you!

Lindyloo, good luck for the first! I’ve seen there is a February tread already with some familiar (and new!) names from here.

Deedee, you will be in good company in the February tread and of course you are always welcome here!

Maggie - I am prepared for each subsequent juice to make me feel worst but of course hoping it won’t! I believe this is like the statement about chemo - ‘everyone is different’.

Jeeesh, just listen to me! Talking like a pro about chemo when 20 days ago I was pissing my pants just thinking about having to have chemo! I am ever so grateful for this website, it truly did make facing chemo a lot easier with the support and shared experiences of all of those ladies who went before me!

Sherlock Holmes was good - not as good as the first, I thought, but still good. My indigestion turned into queasiness. I had split pea today and I guess it did not agree with me. Took one of the anti sickness tablets and now my stomach is settling.

One of the side effects of my pill is, it makes you sleepy! So even though I am usually a nightowl and up until 1 AM, I can barely keep my eyes open to type this, so better go to bed.

I did notice though, I am getting pretty addicted to this site - I checked almost as often as I check FB!

Night night all!
Julianna

Hi everyone. Whoa, ahat a lot of posts since I was last on. Usually post in eve and have been too tired lately so sorry haven’t had time to read through and find out who is at what stage and all.

My hair is now coming out in handfulls and thinking about shaving it off. It keeps tickling my nose as it falls and the bavck of my neck and now feels really thin though fam say it looks fine. LG is thinning a bit.

Glad ur all feeling ok.

SCOC I too have started eating for England but so far, touch wood have not put on any weight. Hoping it stays that way.
Have been feeling sorry for myself this week as have massive ulcer on side of tongue which is making it difficult to talk and eat though I manage the latter well LOL. And also have sore and swollen eyebrow as if a boil is waiting to erupt! Feeling a bit woe is me Sorry will go now
Love to all Jacqui X
PS Went to BC support group and found it really helpfull and lots of women going through the same or who have been through it. Well worth it if you can get to one. Also booked in for therapies and LGFB. These book up fast so get in there!
Dawnrise- How are your SEs 2nd time round? Hope you are ok.

Yes, my hair is just starting to shed when I run my fingers through it. I am day 13 so maybe clipper time at the weekend.

Jules68 no they havent suggested a line,i guess i will have to see what happens at next juicing!!
SOC,i think i will ask for stronger anti sickness tablets, thats the great thing about this forum…the advice from others.xx
Still getting bad headaches…anyone else suffer from them too??
I know i am a bit mad making myself sick…always do it though especially when really drunk…its been a long time since i have been drunk though!!Makes me feel so much better.
A bit of advice please how does anyone feel about 2 and a half weeks/19 days after their first chemo??Just because my oldest daughter has a gymnastics display in Manchester for the day and wondering if i will be up to going??Never missed any of her gym comps before so would be wierd not to go and i know she wants me to go too…she is only 10 and still wants her mum at these events. Will i feel up to it??
Hope everyone who has fiirst chemo this week feeling okay
xxx

Morning ladies!

Angel18, I am day 17 today and feel like myself. I think you can safely plan to go to the display. After all, 3rd week is our good week!

Scotianne, I, like you, was fed up with the hair trail, but it was a hard decision regardless, even though everything was covered in my hair, I still had plenty on my head to, and looked like me! But once cut, I felt quite liberated. For me if will be soon time for the bald look - remaining hair is falling out fast…

thanks SOC,so is that what they reckon week 3 is good week…what about week 2…how do people generally feel then??
xx

Maggie50 I have 2nd chemo on the same day best of luck with it. I wish I could bring my BC nurses home they are wonderful and funny.
Shadders nice to see your post was thinking how you are doing. My hair is not coming out in handfuls yet you did use the cold cap?

I have been lucky so far with side effects last saturday was my worst day as fatigue set in. I have felt sick but it did not last for long. I have been signed off for a month so I may consider going back to work. Is anyone else working?

best wishes to everyone starting round 2

x

i am off work for the duration as i work in a primary school,my oncologist recommened not going back till treatment finished.

Hi Angel18 – In addition to asking about amending the anti-sickness drugs, have you thought about increasing the amount of fluid you drink around the time of treatment? I drank loads the day and the morning before I went, took some small bottles of water with me to the hospital (had to spend a penny twice during the juicing! – it is amazing how quickly that red juice gets from one end to the other) and continued drinking loads when I got home. I know everyone is different but I really do believe this helped me – I had only very slight nausea which settled quickly with something to eat. It might also help prevent the ‘toxic’ headache you experienced.

DeeDee12345 – I remember that awful anticipation waiting to start - all the best for 2nd Feb.

Just wondering has anyone else suddenly developed dizziness around day 10? After feeling very normal up to now I have suddenly started to feel quite dizzy (and with no alcohol in sight). I suppose it is my ‘low’ time now and I did go into this a little bit anaemic, so may just be my ‘normal’ reaction but to be on the safe side I have spoken to hospital – they are going to check my bloods tomorrow morning provided I don’t feel any worse today.

All the best everyone x

Also off work. Aim to go back in August (taking it to the max) then might use some of my annual leave to reduce my hours that way I will get full pay not pro rota pay. Then if I like part time hours I might just go part time. I will just have to cut back a bit financially but then will be practiced by then.

Hi Angel,
I am week 2, day 14 today. I have felt well all week since day 9 (Saturday) apart from yesterday afternoon when I had a slight headache and felt “wobbly” so went home.
Summer 20 - I have been at work all week, travelling to/from London on the train. I have been doing slightly shorter hours to miss the very crowded periods. I work in an office in a room with just one other person. I have a notice on the door not to enter if unwell, but probably useless as I am using public transport. A bit OCD with washing my hands, have made them sore! OH is a teacher so can’t avoid the bugs.
Hair still in tact and greasier by the minute - does anyone know whether different drugs take longer to make your hair fall out?
Clare x
