Hi may64
I totally understand how you feel about shaving your hair. My friend done mine last week, after having a few days of it falling out and my head feeling sore I knew the hair had to go. It was an emotional time but I must say it wasnāt as bad as I thought it would be. My Husband & daughter think it looks great. I pick up my wig on Friday, I wear scarves when I go out, good luck for when you do yours.
Good luck to everyone having treatment this wk. Rattles sorry to hear your needing to have a op.
Sending big hugs to all
Gillian xx
Hello everyone,
Rattles, you seem to be going through an awful time at the moment, big hugs. I had a mastectomy with node removal. Fortunately it seems an operation where the pain is minimal and Iāve got used to not having a breast there now so probably wonāt bother with a reconstruction. Make sure you do the exercises they tell you to do as this helps to. I can understand your worry about having chemo to prior to the operation, another thing you could do without but Iām sure your doctors will keep a special eye on you.
Itsmeou, my hair has almost gone now, I didnāt shave it as I personally found it easier to deal with going bit by bit. I did get upset yesterday though. It was the first day I went out wearing a bandanna. I bumped into a person from work at the supermarket, she just gave me a funny look and walked off, didnāt say a word. Made me feel like a freak. I did have a little cry in the car on the way home, felt a bit like a leper.
Doggirl, hope all is well with you and your OH keeps his bugs to himself!
Well, all bloods ok so second treatment of Taxol tomorrow with a dollop of zoly thrown in. Good luck to everyone having treatment tomorrow.
Hope everyone else is doing ok.
Claire
Hello buddies, well OH administered my
injection this morning - a pain free experience (for him at least !) - I think
he will be competing with you Doggirl to be our latest medical expert!!!
HarryDuck hope your OH doesnt infect you - keep a safe distance. To be honest
when you have kids/family who frequent the big wide world there isnāt much we
can do about keeping all bugs at bay - just have to take sensible precautions
and hope for the best - good luck!! May64 - hope the hair loss wonāt be as
traumatic for you as you imagine - Iāve been hair free for 3 weeks now and
completely used to it after inital wobble. Feel quite a bohemian in my scarves
- letting out my inner hippy!!! And yes was it Doggirl who finds the wig too
itchy - me too!!! Paid an arm and a leg for it and have only worn it out once -
it does look good and very natural but just feels toouncomfy to wear for
longā¦Myfanwy - sometimes people just do not know how to react and it
can be sooo upsetiing. Iāve found the more I went out in public in the
headscarf the more confident I felt about it and now I usually forget about it
and sometimes wonder why people are looking all sympathetically at me!!
Itsmelou - hope the shave went ok for you too and not too upsetting. Feel lots
better today (day5 after FEC2) and had lunch in town with a friend and did a
bit of present buying for Fathers Day. Hope all the other buddies are doing ok,
Em XXX
Rattles - so sorry you are having such a horrible time, we will all be thinking of you and hoping for the best possible outcome, please post back when you can to let us know how you get on. It is so hard trying to keep up the brave face for family and friends and its good that we can share on here.
Harryduck- hope you and hubby are OK and havenāt got tonsillitus
Anyone worried about hair loss - I shaved my hair about the same time as Em and am getting used to it. I had the wig trimmed last Friday as it looked a bit Amy Winehouse but havenāt worn it much because its either been too hot, or raining and blowing a gale! It does look much more natural now that itās been trimmed though. I will be trying it out properly on Friday as we are going to Northern Ireland for a weekend break and I will have to wear it so that I look like my passport photo. The wig lady recommended some inserts which you stick to the inside of the wig which cushion it and absorb sweat, so I am trying these out too.
Squeakymouse
Hello buddies,
To all those grappling with hair loss, it does get easier. I feel very guilty that I cant bear wearing my wig, it is too tiight and itchy. I have been wearing scarves and if I had chance would order some bandanas.
-Em j ust wanted to say how hard it must have been to be all geared up for an operation and then get your treatment plan changed. Sometimes I think the mental challenges of managing treatment are as hard as the physical.
Well, I saw my oncologist this am. He took one look at me and said I need to have the op on Thursday. I am slighly worried as he says the cancer can become resistant and ideally I should have had two more cycles of chem before a delay. But my white blood cell count is so low that in light of the fact that it will only drop further, I should have op now. He made the decision for me which was a relief.
Now I just have to be brave and go through with it.
(for some reason type is tiny so will post this and come back to it).
Rattles, x
Just been back to read posts properly. Type still tiny so very hard to see what I am writing. Just wanted to thank you all for your patience and support. I know that everyone has their different challanges.
Claire it is good to hear that it i possible to feel positive following a mastectomy without reconstruction. I cant imagine going through this again. I am so sorry your colleague was so insensitive. Sometimes I think people dont know what to say and they dont think about the impact of what they say and do at all. I am sending you a big hug. Glad your bloods are good enough for treatment though.
Squeakymouse - a weekend away sounds a great idea. Hope you have a good time.
May- I hope you will take some comfort from the fact that we are all going through this together. I still do a double-take whenever I see myself in the mirror. I am sorry if I have told this story before but apparently Mo Mowlem used to take of fher wig for a good scratch when the political negotiations got tough. Good on her!
Good luck to all those with their treatments coming up.
Rattles, x
Rattles sending lots of positive thoughts to you. I guess at least you know what the plan is now. Will be thinking of you on thurs.
Squeakymouse i hope you have a lovely weekend break.
Emylou glad your injections are going ok. Any SE from them?
Claire sorry your supermarket experiance was upsetting. Other peoples reactions are sometimes horrible. One of my very best friends has only been to see me twice in 3 months. Not what i expected at all yet others have been fantastic.
Hope your taxel goes well tomorrow i will hopefully be following you on thurs with No. 3 No.2 was much easier for me than No.1 x
Donna good luck tomorrow hope this one is kind x
Hi
Just got blood results, blood count abit low but still able to go ahead with 2nd chemo tomorrow. Had a weigh in I have put weight on canāt see how as I havenāt much over the last couple of weeks.
Xx
Hi everyone, Rattles will be thinking about you on Thursday, itās not as bad as you think , Iām not sure I would have the reconstruction if it was offered now, only wear prosthesis when I go out, think everyone is used to me being lopsided now lol , even the postman aand window cleaner as I keep forgetting to put it in before I answer the door lol, having trouble sleeping again , hope everyone is doing ok.
Love and hugs to you all xxx
Hi all
Rattles - so sorry to hear you have to have another op - will be thinking of you tomorrow. A good friend was diagnosed with bc about a month after I was, she had a mx without reconstruction yesterday morning and texted me from her hospital bed last night, in between mouthfuls of hospital macaroni cheese. Hope you have an easier time of it this time.
Love and hugs to all, especially those getting juiced this week.
Alix xx
I am just posting to wish luck to everyone having their chemo this week, and to those who had it last week, a reminder that you will start feeling better.
I have to be at the hospital for 9am tomorrow, so a bit later than previously. I feel a bit like I have a big exam coming up.
Thanks again for all your support and it has helped to hear everyoneās experiences.
Be in touch after the op.
Rattles, x
Rattles - good luck for tomorrow, will be thinking of you hun and sending lots of positive vibes. Gillian and Donna - hope your juicings go well today and you donāt feel too bad afterwards. HarryDuck - OH enjoys giving me the injections and so far no noticeable SEs, although I have taken a paracetamol aftewards just in case. Hows our little mascot Elizabeth doing? - has she more hair than us yet? Good luck with your 3rd dose tomorrow HarryDuck! Sunny here in Cheltenham at the moment - I suspect its not going to lastā¦EmXXX
Elizabeth is ok altough she had her first set of jabs yesterday and is a bit grumpy today. She came with me for my Onc app today and everyone made a big fuss of her.(Not many babies in Onc just lots of wigs)! A nurse took her on a tour behind the scenes to see everyone while i had my bloods done. God they do take alot. They take 6 just for the drugs trial then 2 more to check out my blood count!
I saw Dr Cās Reg instead of him today. Was a bit dissapointed to begin with but it turns out she was lovely and went through everything with me. she spent much longer and was very keen to make sure all meds were correct and very reasuring.
This will be my last Docetaxel then im onto FEC. The Reg was talking about anti sickness drugs for that. I do have them for TAX but dont think they are very strong (Metoclopramide 10mg) They also gave me Ondansetron after my first treatment as i did feel really sick. Im not sure if these worked as i only took one and managed after that with metoclopramide. Last cycle i didnt feel sick at all.
Does any one know whats best in the anti sickness drugs or is it differant for every one?
Rattles all the very best for tommorrow xxx
Em she has loads more hair than us now but she does have a bald patch at the back now. She looks a bit like a monk!
Gillian and Donna hope your both ok after your Chemo today.
Think its going to be a late one for me tomorrow as they cant get me in any earlier than 3pm and because i had a reaction last time i have to have pre meds 30 mins before and then they have to put it in slowly. Goodness knows what time i will get homeā¦
Lots of love to all and big milky kisses from Libby for those that want them xxxxxxxxxxxx
Ooo just popping on quickly to grab a kiss. Yummy!! L
Good luck for tomorrow Rattles. I hope your head is in a good place xxxx
Hope the newly juiced are sleeping and not suffering xx
Love Sarah x
Good luck for tomorrow Rattles sending hugs your way.
Harry hope your chemo goes ok tomorrow, hope your not there to late.
Donna hope your ok after your chemo today.
Mine went ok they were running 1 1/2 late. They have given me some more anti sickness tablets. I have never taken so many tablets. Hair has now almost completely gone. Iām getting used to looking at my bald head. Sunny in the south today but spent all my day at the hospital it will probably rain tomorrow.
Hope everyone else is doing ok
Gillian xxx
Hi all
Harryduck - I had Ondansetron (for two days) and Metoclopromide (for at least a week) after my first FEC - was sick on the first night and then nauseous for about a week. The chemo nurse said the sickness tends to be worse if you suffer from travel sickness - I only have to see a picture of a boat and I get queasyā¦
Saw onc today, they are going to give me different anti-sickness drugs for FEC 2 (due a week today) - Iāll let you know what they give me and how I get on with them.
Hair hanging in there, but like straw and I have terrible dandruff! Think Iāll be going for the head shave soon.
Sleep tight all, Alix xx
Hope Gillian and Donna are Ok after chemo today I had my 3rd EC today - feeling OK again. Will be thinking of you Harry tomorrow. My next chemo is July 4th and I have an appointment with the ONC the day before as Iām half way through! We have Ceriās best friend staying with us again - I think I must be insane - chemo then come home clear the spare room so she has a bed but I couldnāt say no - sheās a lovely kid and needs a bit of stability until her mum gets a house sorted out (mum and dad split up nearly 3 weeks ago) Off to bed now as Iām getting tired Julie
Hi everyone
Good luck to Rattles for tomorrow, hope all goes well.
Also good luck to anyone having chemo this week, I am scheduled to have FEC2 on Monday - bloods willing! Should hopefully find out more about my liver then too, was too shocked to ask any questions when they rang and told me.
Hair has started to come out in chunks - its a bit of a shock when it does actually happen isnāt it?!
On the up side my 14 month old daughter took her first steps on Sunday so Iām a happy mummy!!
Hugs, best wishes and minimal side effects to everyone
