Starting Chemo in May 2012

Hi everyone , thinking of you today Rattles and remember we are all holding your hand , hope everyone is coping with their SE’s .
love and hugs to everyone xx

At last - I can join in! Have been trying to do this since last month. Due to have my 2nd dose of FEC tomorrow. SE have been not too bad - no sickness - but awful mouth ulcers and oral thrush - anyone else had this. Still have my hair - but shedding fast. Might wear my wig for Chemo tmrw or go with the remains! Anyone got any good tips for washing and conditioning their wig, and what products to use? Look forward to joining in rather than just reading all about your antics - it has really helped though - even though I coulnd’t reply!

Welcome kittenmad (good name!). Plwased you are able to join in now Glad your side effects haven’t been too bad. My mouth was awful after fec1. Was riddled with thrush. Have 2 weeks worth of Fluconazole (sp) so watch this space. Am feeling a bit furry today.

Cannot help with wig care. Mine just sits on it’s stand looking itchy lol!!

Hope juicings and ops (Rattles) went okay
Xx

Meant to say to polarbear how lovely that your little one is walking

It’s quite shocking how many people have young ones and are young (in breast cancer terms). Maybe a skewed demographic at internet based I suppose? Anyway it’s niceto be ‘Young’ lol!

Hello everyone,
I’ve written this post for the last couple of days and as soon as I press post it disappears somewhere so I hope this one sticks.
Polarbear74, I agree with you regarding hair. I’ve let mine come out without shaving as I found that easier to deal with, not nice though. Congratulations on your daughter’s first steps. It makes me very sad you have this illness at what should be the happiest time of your life with your little one. I hope your doctors put you mind at ease over the coming weeks.
Harryduck, yes, same here regarding friends although most have been great. One friend in particular has been wonderful and is great company, my illness almost seems to go over her head and this makes me feel very normal. Your hospital sounds lovely, showing Elizabeth round - did you tell them she is the May buddies mascot?
Squeakymouse, I hope you enjoy your trip to Northern Ireland and I hope the weather is kind to you.
Rattles, as mentioned above I did try and post before you went into hospital. Hope all went well today and it won’t be long before you are back home and the road to recovery. Looking forward to your post when you are.
Ginger1, thank you for your well wishes to everyone. I had my 2 Taxol yesterday, thankfully my arm didn’t hurt like last time and I feel very well today - so well I did a complete housework sweep, loos, hoovering, ironing, even sweep up the patio, perhaps the steroids have something to do with it!
Emylou9, glad you are feeling better. I’m in Cheltenham to, I go to the Cheltenham Oncology Centre, perhaps I’ll see you there.
To everyone else hope all the May buddies are feeling ok and SE are to a minimum.
Hope my post gets to the site this time.

Hi lovlies.
Good luck Rattles; We are all thinking of you xxx
Well this is me, in all my glory! My OH has taken to calling me Ripley (from alien) but my bristles are now falling out, so I will soon be Jojak. My friends have threatened to get me lollypops
Am feeling a little better after my antibiotics, but am so tired all the time, fell asleep at lunch and woke up at 5! Am also having crazy dreams and bad heartburn. This really is a joy isn’t it?!
Welcome kitten-mad. love the name too. My OH is letting me get a kitten and I’ve been looking at them online today, so excited!!!
Hope everyone is feeling well today xxx

Wow!! Looking good babe. Xxx will have to get on the laprop and change mine. Don’t seem to be able to do it from the iPhone?
Xx

I couldn’t do it on the iPad either. Apple fail. Let’s all get our heads out. It’s the one place we don’t have to feel worried or embarrassed x

Hahaha,
Love your picture JosieJo75. I’ll try and post mine, your hair looks a dam sight better than mine. Quite alarmed when I notice the hair, down there, seemed to be falling out, well, I suppose it was grey anyway and my OH always wanted me to get a great bushy wig for it - his little fantasy I suppose. I wonder if they do them on the NH!
Love claire

Blimey I find one on my heah itchy

Welcome to kittenmad - when I got my wig the lady said to wash every 4 weeks with baby shampoo I think and then leave to dry overnight. In the 3 weeks since I had my head shaved I’ve worn the wig twice - once to a meeting at work (big boss was there) and the other time to a school assembly ( both times whipped it off as soon as I could! - I’m much happier in a scarf) I’ll change my photo tomorrow when I’ve got someone to take a photo of me baldy!

Hello ladies
Just popping in from the March thread to wish you all well. I pop onto your thread now and again to see how you are doing and you all sound a lovely bunch of supportive ladies. You even have you r own mascot! Wow, I am impressed! You will get through this c**p and come out the other end, helped along the way by each other. I am due my last chemo next Tuesday and have had various problems and changes to my treatment, but I have found the support from the marvellous Marchies invaluable. Keep going ladies, you are all fantastic.
Someone was asking about caring for your wig. When I got mine, I also bought some special shampoo and conditioner and was told to wash it once a month and leave it to dry naturally overnight. Don’t put it near any heat source, not even in the aering cupboard or near a radiator and NEVER go near the oven in it or, like me, you may singe the top! I also brought some conditioning spray to use very frequently, depending on how much you wear it. I am not sure whether you actually need the special shampoo etc, or whether you could use ordinary (someone mentioned baby shampoo) , but this is just what I was told.
With much love and hugs

Hello ladies

I too am a March lady and had my last treat yesterday, yay. Regarding wigs I too was advised wash monthly or more frequently if you wear it a lot. I find when I get hot it’s the wig line that gets a little soggy and sweaty. I’ve washed mine a few times now. Patchit and I got ours in the same place, and we’re sold wig shampoo and conditioner, but I think this is actually a bit of a con at £7a each. A mild neutral oh shampoo and conditioner should do the same. Wash the wig in tepid water not hot, and gently wring out. Then you use the conditioner, this is important as remember most of these are man made and need conditioner to stay soft. Once conditioned again gently wring it out and then place on a towel to get excess water off. Don’t wring out by hand as it can mis shape. Then place on wig stand and leave to dry, mine is short but dries in a few hours, don’t put near any heat sources though. Also I spray mine with a conditioning spray, another expensive purchase but worth it. I usually liberally spray at night then brush through with wire brush another purchase then it’s good to go. It’s scary the first time you wash it as you imagine all sorts of mishaps but it’s actually not harder than hand washing delicate clothes. Good luck ladies.

Best of luck to you all

Hi there all you lovely ladies.
Hope you are all not suffering too badly.
Rattles - I hope all is ok with you after your op yesterday, big hugs to you. x
I had my PICC lin eput in yesterday - which I was absolutely dreading but turned out to be very painless, even easier that having a blood test - whtever was I worried about. Then followed immediately by my 2nd TAC chemo.
JosieJo - thanks for the recommendation of the limbo, used it for the first tie this morning - it is great, love it.
Polarbear hope you are doing ok and get some positive news form onc.
I had my head shaved on wednesday as it was falling out in handfuls, my lovely hairdresser came round and gave me a no 1 - looking a bit patchy and a bit sore and itchy. have been out in my wig twice now but feel much more comfortable in my headscarves and kids are getting used to seeing m in the scarves.
The first time my boys saw me in the wig was at school and 2 out of 3 of my boys came straight out of their class and announced at the tops of their voices: ‘Mummy you are wearing your wig aren’t you?’ Got a few funny looks from the people who don’t know my situation.
Welcom to kittenmad, sorry you have to join this club but I hope you will get some good support from all the lovley ladies on here. It is always such a comfort to share our experiences with the only other people who truly know what we are going through.
Keep well all, Rattles take care we are all thinking of you
lots of love
