Starting Chemo in May 2012

Gillian - so glad I am not the only one who felt like that.
Rattles - lots of love and cuddles are winging their way to you from Scotland - hope you get good news very soon. Stay strong, this is simply not fair after all you have been through. Em and Squeaky - all the very best for your operations - hope all goes well.
Had my first Radio today - wasn’t anywhere near as bad as expected - only 24 to go…

Take care all

Thanks everyone for your best wishes for the op. i go to the hospital for 11 to have the op in the afternoon. I haven’t told squeamish hubby about the drains, I hope to keep them hidden under long floaty tops!

I have had achey legs after walking up stairs but it is just like the ache you get after exercise not the Tax ache.

Hope Rattles and her daughter are ok

Squeakymouse xx

A big thank you from me too for all your good wishes. Good luck for tomorrow Squeaky - I will be thinking about you and all the other brave ladies on our thread when I go in tomorrow and then I won’t feel so scared and alone!! Going to take my toenail varnish off in a minute which is also a scarey prospect as last time I saw my toenails some of them were a disgusting bluey/black colour. … X

Rattles. I am sending all the positive vibes and crossing everything for your daughter. thinking of you and your family. We are all here if you need to talk or need reassurance or hub über cuddle.
im off for my radiotherapy planning tomorrow, so should be starting soon.

mich love to everyone else xxxx

Em - good luck to you too, I too will be thinking of everyone on here but may not be able to post for a few days.

Hey Buddies, I am out of theatre and back on ward, full of painkillers so no pain or sickness as yet! Phew…x ps thinking of you all, especially Squeaky, xxxx

Emylou glad you are out of theatre, time to rest up now , sending lots of virtual hugs xx

Emylou, pleased to hear you have had your op and have no pain. Hope you manage to get out of hospital quickly.
I’d like to share my good news, saw ONC today after finishing chemo to go through scan. It worked! Abdominal nodes now so small they are not concerned about them and even better, it had never been in my liver it was just a cyst. I am so pleased and now will thoroughly enjoy my weekend in Cornwall.
Rattles, still sending positive vibes to your daughter. Hope she is ok.
Claire x

Oh wow Claire that is fantastic news- well done!!! You can really enjoy that holiday in Cornwall now, Em x

Claire - that is brilliant news. I’m so pleased for you. Have a great time in Cornwall, and hope you get some sunshine!
Em - great that your op is done, and that you’re feeling ok. I was only in a couple of nights after my op, so hopefully you will be home soon. No doubt you’ll have the physio come round and get you doing the post-op exercises!
Squeaky - hope you’re doing ok too.
Love and positive vibes to Rattles and her daughter.
I had my drain out today after my mini-op - I’m such a wuss that they offered my ora-morph while they removed it, so I was a bit out of it! Surgeon says no infection there now, so I just need to keep taking the antibiotics and crossing my fingers. Hope to have final chemo on Wednesday. Hair is definitely trying to grow back after the delay, so it’ll be interesting to see whether the final FEC makes it fall out again!
Alix xx

Rattles - so sorry to hear about your daughter - thinking of you.
Claire - so glad to hear your news
Emylou - glad your op went well - hope you’re home soon.
I have 6 rads left to go! Breast is very pink and I’m now wearing vest tops as it’s too sore to wear a bra. I have some dressings to just to stop the skin rubbing under my breast but other than that it’s going well.
Julie

Fab news Claire must bet be elated.
pso glad op went well Em, lets hope the sickness stays away.
Hope everything continues to go well Alix.
Positive thoughts continuing for rattles and your daughter

Julie youRe going to be first of the buddies to finish treatment I think, good for you- glad boob not too sore, x Alix -hope your recon continues to improve now and you won’t need further work on it. Thinking of you Rattles and your little girl, X squeaky I hope your op went well and you are recovering ok-been thinking of you, x. Thanks to all you buddies for your good wishes, I came home last night so only one night in hospital. Drain was removed before I left. Slept well last night thank goodness as the night in hospital was impossible to sleep as a woman was brought in at 2am and proceeded to shout at the nurses all night long, keeping everyone else awake! She then had the cheek to complain the next day that she hadn’t slept at all the night before!! I did make friends with the lady in the bed next to me though who was in for a bad back but told me she had had breast cancer herself 10yrs ago when she was only 37. My surgeon popped in very quickly to see me before I left and said she was pleased with how the op went so just have to hope the healing goes ok now. Having dressing off in a week and path results in about 2 weeks. Enjoy the weekend if you can Buddies, lots to love Em x

Hi Ladies,

I am just out of hospital, I would have posted before but couldn’t post on my phone for some reason. Op went OK but I was very sick afterwards and had to stay in another night - after making it all the way thru chemo without being sick once. A bit bruised but pain not too bad at the moment. Drain is out. Managed to break my painkiller machine which kept going in to alarm in the middle of the night! I sneaked a look at my notes while I was there and my cancer was 80 mm x 60 mm and grade 3.

Claire - fantastic news, hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Em - glad your op went ok, hope you are not too sore.

Squeakymouse xx

Squeaky, glad you’re home and that your op went ok. I felt less sore once drain was removed. Managed a shower today and am up and about, just pottering. Trying to remember not to use my right arm too much. Have you had advice about exercises ? My bcn said not to do anything much for at least a week but I’ve read that other people start straight away…x

Em - my bcn said I should start doing exercises straight away so I did (including holding camera up to get a video of the Vulcan bomber flying over our house!) but suggest you go with what yours advised you as everyone’s surgery is different so there might be a good reason why she advised you not to start straight away.

Squeakymouse xx

Hello buddies,
squeaky mouse and Em, you sound like you are doing very well, though I am sorry you were sick squeaky mouse. I have been sick almost every time too…I did think of you both on Thursday. Em, re excercises, if any help, I was doing set A, but gently, very soon. Think the trick is little and often.
Claire, was so, so pleased to hear your news. You must be so relieved, hopefully you are away and enjoying yourself. Alix, too. Fingers crossed that things settle down.
Well, we are home, and all is well. So, thinking that someone, somewhere was finally looking out for us- my daughter had something called lymphdentis- basically an infection of a lymph node. She had a few days (lost count) on iv antibiotics. Now home and on quite large amounts of oral antibiotics, but so, so much better. We went to A and E on Sunday, saw a paediatrician and an ENT doctor, then another doctor and a haemotologist who did a biopsy. On the Monday, the doctors told me that they did not think the swelling was an infection, but indicative of something much more serious. So, for about 24 hours I was completley beside myself with worry as he thought it was lymphoma. I am sure you can all imagine, knowing what its like to go through cancer treatment. The thought of my daughter going through that…It was bad enough that she went through a biopsy and scans. Anyway, thankfully the biopsy showed nothng sinister. Was so relieved that all the stress and discomfort that followed was totally fine, even though the lymphedentis serious enough.
Thank you all so much for your support. Can’t help but think that it made a difference to the outcome. Feeling very grateful that we are all at home and not in hospital. There were some very poorly children who are still there though, as we know not everyone is so lucky.
I will catch up properly when we are a bit more sorted, so sorry not to include everyone.
Rattles xx

Phew… So lovely to hear from you rattles. Glad your daughter is home and it is not as serious as lymphoma. Sounds truely terrifying. I cannot think of anything worse than your child being ill. I hope she continues on the up and up. this year is quite something isn’t it?!
Squeakymouse and Emylou: I hope you are both healing well. One more stage out the way. My bc nurse says it helps to break treatment iinto chunks rather than see it as one long journey. I started rads, so far quite underwhelming! Chemo seems like it was sooooo long ago. It’s amazing how quickly one can forget. I am quite tired out though. Not convinced its the rads as have only just started them.

the puppies are now four weeks old and are so cute. They went out in the garden for the first time today. A big milestone for them! They didn’t know there was an outside. i still haven’t put a photo on as I use the iPad and can’t change the profile optic (or is it me?) Two homes needed…

Hi all
Rattles - thanks for posting, and so pleased that your daughter is ok. Must have been horrible waiting for the outcome. Glad you’re home and that the diagnosis, whilst not nice, is soooo much better than it could have been.
Em & Squeaky, good to hear from you both.
Doggirl - glad rads is going ok, I think it’s normal to feel tired after the trauma of diagnosis and treatment. Sounds like the puppies will be keeping you busy!
I’m having daily visits from the district nurse to change the dressings on my op site - due to see the surgeon on Thursday, but would is still discharging serous fluid (apologies if this is too much info!) which is what happened before the infection last time. Don’t think I’ll get my final chemo on Weds unless things take a turn for the better… Still, me and OH are off to Newcastle for the night, as we have tickets to see Sandi Toksvig. The district nurse is happy for us to go, and that’s good enough for me!
Love to everyone
Alix xx

Rattles-so glad your daughter is home and on the mend, what a relief for you, x Alix enjoy Sandy Toksvig tonight- I love her, she is so funny!! I am still feeling ok post op and have started my exercises too. I just find it hard to take it easy especially as I’ve been feeling so much better since chemo finished. Love to all you Buddies, x
