Starting chemo in September

Hi Ladies - nipping in from the august chemo thread. I have just had fec 3 and I too have had mouth problems and soreness/bad taste. Pineapple juice seems to work for me and for some strange reason tastes really nice on chemo. Worth a try maybe?

Good luck to all you September girls

Morning Ladies
Hope you have all had a good weekend and are feeling ok today.

I didnā€™t feel to good over weekend very tired no energy what so ever slept on sofa for most of yesterday (I dont like laying in bed all
day) and having hot flushes something I havenā€™t had for 10 years,
Today Iā€™m feeling slightly better, I wish my energy would come back I hate feeling like this.
Is anyone else feeling like this, Iā€™m on my 6th day after 1st fec.

Good luck to anyone having their chemo this week.

Sue

Hi ya Gals
Hope this week gonna be ok for everybody.
Gingeā€¦love your comment about looking in the mirror and seeing someone else. I WISH I could see someone else. Theres only ugly old meā€¦Must remember to but a new mirror!
SGLā€¦what a week you have had. Hope its a bit easier on you over the next few days. Wish I had a remedy for mouth ulcersā€¦my Grandpa used to put cayenne pepper on themā€¦burns them up and dries them within hours, but I REALY DO NOT recommend it. Only tried it ONCEā€¦!!
Treenā€¦I was a dismal pathetic wreck when I heard I had BC. I was still snivelling when they put the chemo drip in, but once it started, it was almost like sayingā€¦OK its out of my hands nowā€¦lets just get the show on the road and get it over with. Its early days for meā€¦only had one session so farā€¦next one is on Fridayā€¦must the SE not NEARLY been as bad as I thoughtā€¦Hope it will be the same for you.

Thanks to all about the advice re not shaving. Gonna go on the ATTACK now with a pair of scissors and do the NO 3 or 4 thing when I need to.
Big hugs to ya all
Lil

Hello everyone, sorry I am bein quiet, but I am feeling pretty poo!

Hubby had a gp appointment today with our lovely lady doc, he mentioned what had happened to me and she told him to call me on the mobile (we live two mins walk away) and she saw me. I have a temp again, so she ordered blood tests to be done and will be fast tracked back to her today. She said my throat is infected and my glands are up so shes given me some antibiotics to start. She has also given me a difflam spray to put straight on the ulcers as well as the mouth wash. Because off the trouble they had with my veins yesterday, she thinks I now have Flaubitus (sp)??!! Its really painful!

I dont think I am neutropenic, just think its the infection making me have a temp, but I will know soon.

The Marsden have said, if she thinks I should be hospitalised, that she should ring the emergency number there to request a bed for me rather than me go through that dreadful A and E department at my local hospital.

Ginge and Southernlucy, I do hope you are having a better day today, its all pants isnt it. Big hugs to you both.

Vodka girl, hope things continue to be better for you.

Sunshine1, big hugs, I had to have three ops, so I know how rubbish it feels to keep having to have them.

Lil, pepper ouchy ouchy ouchy lol my dad swears by bicarbonte soda and that smarts too, and after the lovely message you sent me, Iam pretty sure you are beautiful inside and out, so there lol

Annie, well done on your first fec, may your side effects be few and mild. Dont do what I did which was rush about as normal, take it easy and listen to your body, or you will pay like I am doing!!

HJV, I hope the bowel problems have started to sort themselves out, I am going little and often and my bum hurts, so using nappy rash cream!!

Hello to you Jay, hope you are ok.

If I have forgotten anyone, sorry and have a huge hug.

xxxxx

sgl so sorry you are still feeling poorly I hope things improve for you soon.

Jay I hope you are doing ok

I am a bit lost with everyone so I hope you are all doing ok, big hugs to everyone.

Hello Ladiesā€¦

SGL, So pleased your doctor saw you today, I really hope things improve very soon for you, I think you have suffered enoughā€¦

hjv, Well done for getting back to work, probably did you good didnt itā€¦

Ruby, Thank you for the tip, anything is worth a tryā€¦

Sue, As you know I am the same as you day 6, no hot flushes, but energy levels are very up and down, so I guess thats normal, we just have to go with it I surposeā€¦
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better dayā€¦

Take care Allā€¦

Hi Girls
Oh you poor thing SGL , big hugs to you.
I am starting first of 6 fec next week, probably day after my birthday!
I am dreading it as so many of you seem to have had nasty side affects but at the same time want it over and done with.
Went to doc today and got some anti depressants. I feel ok but this journey has been so up and down and I feel they will help me through the chemo.
I cannot wait to have my life back!!!
Lots of love to you all.

Hi Sozzaā€¦

The side effects arent great but there are things to help us deal with them, I guess we are still finding what solutions suit us bestā€¦
I too was offered anti depressants, but at the time didnt want them, that said if at any time I think I do I wouldnt hesitate, anything to make this journey even just a little easierā€¦

We will support you, and you will be fineā€¦

Make sure you get spoilt rotten for your birthday, coz you deserve itā€¦

Love Jay X

Hello everyone not been on for a while you have all been rather busy and some new faces too!
I feel a bit of a fraud 1st FEC no probs felt tired for about 4 days some very mild nausea and that was it - sorry to all of you who have suffered but my first chemo was kind to me. My hair was coming out due to my reaction to the skin drugs so chemo has just made it thin even more so mines been shaved off last thurs the hospital wig lady/hairdresser could see quite a difference in less than a week post chemo so itā€™s gone and I feel quite liberated and rather like it in a perverse kinda way! Picture will be changing to the new me! I HATE THAT wig - scarves are for me and keep buying more colours of t-shirts and hijab bonnets and itā€™s working well with my flower clips etc. Hope you are all well and some chemo kindness finds you xxx

Just a quick message to Sozza - I know some of the girls have really suffered, but I, too, like Sandipants have escaped FEC 1 with minimal (barely noticeable) side effects. Yes, tired for a few days and a teeny tiny bit nauseous - but in my case, the fear has proved a gazillion times worse than the reality. Now I just await hair loss with dreadā€¦ boo, hoo. xxxx

Sandipantsā€¦ just seen your new pic. You look fab! Good for you. x

Sozza,i agree with Jay, try not to worry too much about the side effects, they really do differ so much between different people. I can honestly say that like Sandipantsshell, i didnt suffer very much at all during FEC1. My worst side effect was costipation caused by the anti-emetics but that was probably my fault for not taking any meds for it quickly enough.
SGL, youā€™re having such a rough time, bless u, hope your ulcers are clearing up.
Jay, yes i think going back to work today did do me good, im not going to be silly about it & do too much but just when i feel up to it.
Sandipantshell, so glad u didnt suffer too much either, i really feel for those that do, mind u i dont know what the next one will bring yet! You look fab in your pic, well done u, i dont know if im gonna be brave enough to shave mine off, im still waiting for it to start falling out then iā€™ll go from there.

Sandipants thatā€™s a brilliant picture - you look fabulous! Hope I can look as good when the time comes. The guys at work reckon I should have fun with it and come in wearing a great big purple Afro wig. Hmm, Iā€™ll have to see what I can do. In the meantime a Mohican hairstyle was suggested. Not so sure about that one. Havenā€™t ordered any scarves yet - hope theyā€™re quick delivery!
Iā€™m getting really nervous now. Bloods and ECG on Wednesday, fec1 on Thursday - aargh!!

Hi Sandipantsā€¦

You look greatā€¦

Glad to hear you havent suffered much either, long may it continueā€¦

Love Jay X

Hoping everyone else is asleep at this point (3am) but tomorrow if anyone has any info on joint pain following GCSF Iā€™d appreciate it. Despite analgesia and hot water bottles I think something is drilling holes in my back and hips. Having to have GCSF because of low white cell count and subsequent infection. Rats

Hi girls I havenā€™t been a regular poster but have been reading your comments and feel I know you all. I thought I would share the hair thing. I didnā€™t use cold cap. Day 13 post first FEC (last Thursday) it started to come out when I ran my fingers through my hair about 10 strands at a time - my teenage daughter gave me a pixie cut that night. It was pretty good, but every day I have had to hoover big time - hair is everywhere! It is now thin and the parting is getting widerā€¦ yuck! I donā€™t know why I thought it wouldnā€™t happen to me! - has been horrific and I wish I had had it cut short before. So time to go for a number 1 or 2 for me today! I have found a brilliant halo hairpiece (from Trendco) which I will wear with a scarf or a hat and way more comfortable than a wig which I will save for work - even my difficult to please teenagers think it looks quite cool! Hope you are all coping - its time for my second round of fun on Friday Love LL
