Morning diamond chicks, so sorry you are feeling down at the moment, this dieses is enough to get the strongest person down. So let’s hope that something good happens to you all to make you smile again. My son’s birthday today and we are going out tonight, Going to shave the rest of my hair of when I get back as it’s very thin, I’m leaving more hair round the house than my two retrievers put together.
Talking about mom’s I’m very lucky she is staying with me this week as due second chemo Tuesday. Think I have aged here yet again when I had Leukaemia I had to promise I would bury here (as in I would get through it) when we found out about the bc she told me I still had to bury her.
Got to go and get my bloods done fingers crossed they should be good enough I have drunk enough Guinness to help them.
Lots of hugs Carolann.
how are u all doin chicks good luck to anyone having chemo this week( me) i just need to get it started now i think xx
Morning all,
I am ok Donna… I had the ‘FEC flop’ for about 2 days and didn’t feel ‘normal’ until Saturday. It was so lovely to be out in the sunshine rather than tucked up in bed sleeping the day away. I finished my anti sickness tablets yesterday morning which made me a little nervous… But thankfully was fine. I think I was lucky with my particular combination as had already been through the whole sickness after my MX and anaesthetic. Fingers crossed it stays like this!
Good luck to all for impending chemo sessions this week…Donna you will be fine! Make sure you take your anti sickness tablets as soon as possible, drink and rest. Xx
Cold cap all the way for me too Rosey. Wasnt anywhere as bad as I thought. In fact sucking on the ice lolly gave me more of a brain freeze than the cap did! Am trying not to wash my hair everyday, but so far can only manage every other day… Hair feels different already or maybe am imagining things?
Well, it’s a total wash out here, have cake eating and tea drinking planned for this afternoon and if I can be bothered a spot of mini retail to celebrate my first chemo down. I could get used to it… Not sure the OH will agree! Lol
Take care shiny little bird
X Hannah

Hello all,
Back again…I have been away from a computer so have been catching up with what has happened.
Glad you are feeling better Hannah. I think the first two-three days seem to be the worse (they were for me) although I have been very tired the last few days.
I have also had some weird indigestion thing going on which started after I stopped taking the anti - sickness tablets. It actually hurts to eat anything so I have actually lost weight. Has anyone had anything similar?
Also, I need to give myself injections to increase the amount of white blood cells on day 8 and day 12. The last one gave me stinking headaches. Dreading the one today. No-one has mentioned these…is anyone else having them?
My hair is still here (I am on day 12) but for how much longer I don’t know. There is no sign of anything going yet - infact its the opposite - i thought I had a bit of straw in my eyebrow yesterday and then realised it was actually a hair which had suddenly grown to about inch. I cant believe it I hadn’t notice it. I will try the cold cap again next week for the second chemo session. I might forego the wig when it falls out. Itchy head in the hot summer… Also, the ones I have seen are a shade of orange and look like something out of Dallas. I am going for a fitting next week so will see. I have ordered a hat from surburban turban and hannabandana, and have been practising my’ scarf technique’.
Quinny - I have had a period and also hot sweats. Terrible isn’t it? I am staying off caffeine and alcohol (well at least trying) as that apparently makes it worse. Good luck with the Chemo this week
Best wishes to you all.
Lilyx
aww lilly i have got a bit ofintergestion b4 i start chemo thanks 4 the info i dont drink alcohol but a lot of tea? how was your first chemo hun xx
Hi
I had a few rough days after the first chemo - infact I was very sick on the first night, which was scarey. I had not heard of anyone getting sick on the first night. I did not eat much during the day so it may have had something to do with it.
I was also due to have a portacath inserted but they have cancelled this for the moment so I am going to have to stick with the candula for a while. I have had no bruising and vein looks okay.
I think the worse thing is the indigestion - I have never had it before and it it almost feels like something is stuck (which it isn’t) just below the right breast bone (thats the good boobie side). Not one for burping out loud but might just have to try.
xx
yes this is true it does feel like somit stuckhorrible never had b4 but my mom thinks it mite b antobotics im on? i have picc line and i think its starting to settle now thank god cause i felt like i wante to rib it out have u got blackberry with bb or wattup as i will b stopping at me moms and she not got internet? x

Hi all the diamond chicks. I have bounced back again
feeling much more with it again. I got hair shaved off as it was driving me nuts, so OH got his all shaved off in support of me, so we can knock our noggins together. He got a before and after photo taken and people in his work are sponcering him to raise money for breast cancer care in women and men. My second session is on Wed, so I am hoping its just minimal SE again. Got bloods off this morning and see onc. tomorrow, so busy few days ahead. Reading through the forum, everyone seems to be coping. Long may it continue. You all take care. love, Pauline. xxxx
Hi Rosey I found the cold cap really uncomfortable for the first ten minutes but then it was ok. I had quite a persistent headache for 36 hours after but once I’d got the painkillers sorted - that was fine. I hope I’m not being too optimistic but my 2nd chemo is scheduled for Thursday and I have lost very little hair. I’m definitely sold on the cold cap and will continue with it.
Good news on my neutropenia - levels have gone from 0.29 on Friday and worries of needing to be admitted for IV antibiotics and being convinced that this week’s treatment would have to be delayed to 1.69 today which is high enough for the next treatment to go ahead. I have to have another check on Wednesday but the chemo nurse says it is unlikely to drop again. I can’t get my head around this swinging level but apparently that is how it can go and it can change very quickly. Not going to worry about it - I just want to stay on schedule!
Hannah I had a period of my head feeling sensitive and tingly but that passed and my head and hair feel fine . I’m washing mine quite regularly I’m working on the premise that I want to try to preserve my hair to keep a bit of a normal appearance - if I can’t style it and have it looking how I want it - there’s little point putting up with the cold cap to try and keep it - so i’m being gentle and not using straighteners and only using the hair dryer on cool but i am still washng and styling it as normal.
CarolannHowe you have a lovely time celebrating your son’s birthday
Karen I know what you mean about the water I found trying to find something pleasant to drink really difficult. Advice from others that helped me was orange juice and tomato juice; when my mouth had a really bad taste I found pineapple and melon really refreshing and one of the few things that tasted nice especially first thing in a morning
Love to all as we deal with the SEs and next rounds of chemo
Yvonne xx
Yvonne, hope your chemo goes well on Thursday. I know what you mean about blood counts, my next chemo is next week and I’m dreading being told my bloods not right and it be delayed. Well done Pauline and OH for shaving your heads, I must pluck up the courage soon. Lily, I too just had needle in vein on my hand and hope my veins will be ok next time. As for indigestion, yes think most people seem to get that - your doc can give you something for that which should help. Best wishes to all on chemo this week, will be thinking of you all. Xx
It’s day 8 today, first chemo was last Monday. Finally got hit by the tiredness at the weekend and today my period started. I am super crampy and have a headache an the digestion is iffy, not to talk about my appetite disappearing again. Not allowed Iboprofen or Paracetamol according to the docs and really don’t want to take Codeine. Hot water bottle and tea only go so far…
So first minor meltdown today.
Envy all of you who have family living with them. Could do with the distraction and somebody doing the cooking for me. Ok, moan over.
Hoping for a good night’s sleep and improvement tomorrow.
Have sent you a PM Donna with my mobile. Call me any time lovely.
Have noticed my mouth feels a little ‘stripped’ today. Not painful or even uncomfortable, just strange like I ate something too hot. Sound familiar anyone?
Have stocked up on iron efficient foods. Hubby went a little over board on the curly kale and mash colcannon, nice though. Sad to report that my appetite is not a suppressed one:-0 dried apricots and a flack seed capsule for pudding it is then.
Take care peeps x
Good morning Diamond Chicks, I am feeling really chirpy this morning. Had bloods done yesterday and they were good.
Got to phone the dentist at 9:00 to get emergency app. or the next app. is August. Definitely can’t wait that long as don’t dare risk infection from rotten tooth.
Lily, I think you should phone about your indigestion. I am sure they can give you something. There is no need to suffer and I suppose the headaches mean that the injections are working but that is little comfort! Have they recommended any pain killers? Ask if they haven’t.
I was advised that I could take paracetamol for my toothache as long as I took my temperature first and it was normal.
I tried lots of different drinks and ended up with diet coke, and fizzy flavoured water, lemon and lime being the favourite along with an old fashioned cup of tea or 3!
Hannah my mouth was exactly the same! You did make me smile. My appetite isn’t depressed either.
Last night, OH suddenly sat up in bed and said ‘what’s that?’ He sounded really worrried.
‘Its just my wig’ I said.
Relieved sigh. ‘I thought it was a coypu crawling towards my underpants’
‘That would have been very brave,’ I replied and we both collapsed in a fit of giggles. May name my wig Coypy!
As the lady was taking my blood she asked if I was drinking lots as it would help with blood flow and keep my veins nice and plump for chemo. Checked her name badge half expecting it to be Pauline but it wasn’t. Only joking, Pauline. Just goes to show you are giving good advice.
Time to give the house a good clean before chemo. Wish me luck for a dental app. and hope it goes well please.
To all the ladies joining me with chemo this week Good Luck to us all and may our SE’s be slight.
Love all my online family! Lynn xx
Hiya ladies…
Karen and Hannah, glad you’ve picked up. You do reach normal before next one. I did anyway. Everyone s different but I kinda write a week off, not that it’s bad for a week but I’m not myself even on a god day. The 2nd week is much better and third was pretty normal for me last time.
Donna… good luck on Friday. Big hug. I’m away till sat and I know your mum is looking after you, but I will be sending you good karma vibes… X
A few ladies on their second this week, I’m not going to try and name you all because I know I’ll miss some one… But good luck and may your SE be minimal again… X
Hair loss… I shaved my head on Sunday… Nearly 4 weeks after 1st chemo and I still had loads of hair. It’s started to grow back a bit too, am thinking in a week or so it’ll start again. The shedding is irritating tho… So I felt it was the right thing. I think it sounds very promising Yvonne, if you’ve not lost much yet… Fingers crossed for you.
I read here that someone said TAX causes hair loss… My chemo nurse told me it was the erbulatine?? Or whatever you call it in the FEC… The pink one… I kinda had my hopes up that after my next fec my hair might start to recover, I know from being in hospital that your hair has started to grow before before end of last chemo… Why is everything so contradictory?? No wonder we get confused… X
I’m off today for a little break, to Lancaster. With my lovely daughter and my friend and her kids. Looking forward to it. I will check back in at the weekend once I’m home.
Take care of yourselves.
Elli xx
hi chicks. Lynn, love the story of your wig and OH. Don’t think I will wear mine in the house, prob only when I go out in public. I remember a few years ago when my sister had cancer - she passed away unfortunately - she was out with friends and a gust of wind blew her wig off and she had to chase it down the street! Talk about embarrassment, but you’ve got to laugh. Eve, hope you are feeling a bit better today, I think we all have bad days but I am on my third week after 1st chemo now and feel quite normal - might even indulge in a hit of retail therapy this am, could do with a treat. Seems like all I have been buying recently is ginger biscuits, indigestion tablets and bottles of water! Take care everyone. Xx
Morning everyone hope you are all coping well, sounds like you all are. Lynn thought you wig story was very funny, made me smile.I fetched my wig yeasterday it is called Carol i was very pleased with it,the wig lady said my hair was getting very thin and I had some bald patches at the back. Yes I thought that was me teasing the loose bits out and burning them on my brothers fire pit at his barbe, have to say felt very theroputic. So wig lady said she could shave it there and then so I thought why not, so thats it done. WhenI got home my grandaughter was there she did not even know I had come back with different hair, wonderful how children adapt.
So off for second chemo this morning didn’t sleep more than two hours because of the steriods are any of you ladies on dexamethasone 2mg take 4 twice a day?for 4 days. Feeling ok about chemo, did think it was nice what my youngest said last week when I was finally feeling my old self, he said mom its good to have you back, and hes twenty.
Good luck to all the ladies having there second on this week, just remeber after this second one we are all a third of the way through. All that have had theres lets hope you all feel back to your old selves soon.
Love and hugs to you all,Carolann.
