starting my pink road of cemo, 15th nov

hahaha laffing loads here, visions of the sick bowl being kicked across the room. got to laff eh hun

so sorry it was cancelled today, talk about mind games.
jules, im loving the idea of us all in the car picking up all the pinkies on the way.

i swear cemo has really f***ed up my thoughts, lol

ive just ate chips and curry sauce, i wasnt even hungry but the munchies had crept in.

P.S I have read the tips for chemo bit but, in advance of first session Friday Can I have recommendations of absolute must-haves!! So far a thermometer and loads of chocolate is about it (chocolate is always a necessity in case it isn’t on a list you have read!!!) xxx

absolute must haves …
sherbet lemons for metallic taste
sensitive mouthwash and soft toothbrush/bonjela /corsodyl
bottled juice/flavoured water( drink at least 6-8 glasses before chemo)
travel bands
sick bowl -even just to kick along kitchen in temper
anti-sickness pills ( from hospital)
antihistamine( for chemo glow)itchy eyes
thermometer
nice food to stock freezer and nibbles of crackers cream cheese and tonic water/ice -cream chocolate for when munchies set in with steroids)
tissues for runny nose/eyes
aqueous cream to start rubbing in skin

this is my absolute minimum that i couldnt have done without

OMG Kaz thats how i started with the munchies i was a size 10(not) pre-chemo xx

julie,
whats aqueous cream

Dima…that’s so unfair, best of luck for tomorrow and can we still be friends ;)? And I thought having to jam in a return visit to the dentist for 08.45 before chemo was bad. Bit like my op when the nurse gave me my paracetamol pre-med and THEN said she wasn’t sure if op would be delayed til after the medical photographer had taken pics at 15.30 (it was midday and we’d left for hospital at 07.00!)and the delay would have rendered the premed totally useless. I finally lost my composure, burst into tears and went and sat in the car for half an hour in the sun with OH! It wasn’t. Luckily for all concerned…growl.

Anyhow, had my home chemo this morning. Now eye muscles gone nuts (just like with the general/co-codamine), slight headache, slightly tingly fingers, odd short cycles of exhaustion and reasonably okness but thinking is an issue (05.15 start yesterday not helping probably and waking early this morning. Checked out my Facebook as diversion from the infusions…sad or what?!

Kaz its just cheap (99)P moisturising cream they recommend it cos its mild for skin when you having Rads and you can wash with it or put it in the bath ( lovely for hard skin on feet) but i started using it even after my surgery and it healed my skin lovely after surgery aswell ( you can get it off your gp aswell)I used it under my armpit aswell when i couldnt use deoderant during rads and to wash under there x

Kaz if you just ask at a chemist they have larger pots behind the counter. ( on reading that sounded like something really dodgy) It’s fab stuff just very mild water based (hence aqueous) cream so dissolves in water & rubs in beautifully. very safe & used by people with all sorts of skin things like eczema. very cheap too.
LOL I had visions of a flying bowl in slow motion dima.

Em - you did also make me laugh cos you said “Hove actually” cos that’s what people from hove say!!! LOL. I have friends in Hove too.

I was offered the cold cap at my ONC meeting but can’t be bothered. It’s a bit like reading threads about rubbing bio oil on your MX scar. don’t rally care what it looks like as long as it’s not hurting or uncomfortable. Mind you my BCN did say when she looked at mine yesterday “HMMM - yes well all the swelling has made it very lumpy hasn’t it - But you are having a reconstruction aren’t you?” - SO I guess if she thinks it’s bad it must be!!! - OH couldn’t give a monkeys & keeps telling me how lovely I am so that’s what really matters.

Julie

I’ve seen you & others say sherbet lemons for metallic taste but doesn’t that irritate the sore mouth???

Sounds like I have some shopping ahead of me!! Better stock up on my chemo bits and bobs-then wig appt a week on Weds-good excuse for shopping this chemo business lol!

Jo-I literally live 5 mins from Brighton town centre but we are the first or second road that’s Hove so I love the whole Hove “actually” business because it’s true-oh and it makes me sound posher as I’m sure that’s why those in the back end of Hove say it  I actually worked in Horsham before being signed off so know it very well too!

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow! I have appt with oncologist to get my oncotype DX report results from America back so will hopefully get more “me” specific info tomorrow-hmmm intriguing!

Also waiting for results of Genetisist (eccentric man) who I saw last week-twas a very strange appointment as warning if any of you have one scheduled-he stared at me, measured my apparently big head (humph), asked how long various lumps and bumps I has never noticed had been on my hands, forehead etc and so on … Bizarre-I just expected a blood test not all the other shennanigans!! I think it was because there are other genes to Braca which can lead to bc! Anyone else had the same?

Oh and are there any good alternatives to tonic water because I just cannot stomach it!!!
Em xx

Suck bits of ice cube during the C part of the FEC…takes ten minutes. I’ll see how much I get away with the mouth bits and report back!

I am using Palmers Skin Therapy Oil for the scars and to stop adhesions etc to the implant and help the skin stretch. It’s really good I find. Boots do a massage oil which is plain oils. Fun in the bath…

Sherbet Lemons are worth a go; Thanks Julie. I’ve been enjoying Maynards sours ( not easily obtainable) and Bovril ( not necessarily in combo). My odd chemo taste buds meant lots of things taste of soap. I’d be very grateful for suggestions to relieve this for next round. Lost my sweet tooth but gained three pounds: How can that be?
Sue

flat leomande
melon/grapes
egg on toast

cream, thanx jo and jules, ill give it a go,
it sounds like it wil be good for my neck scar. thats 8 weeks after surgery and is looking good but gets itchy.
just Ate a pack of jam /cream ring busicuits. lol

Thanks Poppy
I will give the flat lemonade a try and the fruit. I’m already doing eggs and toast. Anything savoury rings my bell at the moment.

pineapple and lemony things are good for the mouth millykins it stimulates the the salivary glands and keeps the mouth moist so less likely to get sore.pinapplecubes are good too.As for drinks flat lemonade or fruit flavoured water ginger ale,and strangely enough i went mad for cold milk and ice-cream ( things i dont normally like also pickles and strong flavoured foods like curries and sweet and sour … very odd ha ha)and dont forget all the blinking celery i ate so much that i thought i had threadworms!!!

Emma…well done sorting oncotype DX. I didn’t find out about it til after I’d seen the onc and as it was a different hospital from the onc holding the histology it was just all too much on top of my post op appointments. Not an easy decision if your figures are anything other than very low.

Yep, eggs, rice crackers and marmite here this morning. Softer than toast (well our toast as I hate it cold and soggy and trying to avoid abrasion). 16 hours after FEC1 my finger tips and inside of my mouth but not tongue feel slightly “burnt” so hoping I pretty much got away with it with the flavoured mini ice cubes…will chip it next time so it gets to all bits for those ten minutes of C admin. Also very dry hands and feet so on with the pure aloe vera for those. Bought a tube to save my plants from quaking!

Going to take less dex today and next time won’t take the full dose on day 1 either. Sorting out my own milk thistle and aspirin dosage (onc nurse fine with these). Absolutely no sickness/nausea so far…but no chilli sauce or curry either :((. So Emend very recommended…ask for it when you first see onc, you know you’re worth it.

Other minor niggle is very dry eyes which came on last night. Trying to avoid conjunctivitis etc. Just got a txt from my onc nurse…Hypermellows??? drops? Any other ideas? Atm it’s -3 and grey out there and I’m wearing sunglasses fgs!

Canada dry ginger ale’s the biz…not sweet and makes a nice change from ginger/mint tea or milk.

How’re the Mon group doing?

With the mouth dryness (which murders teeth too :(((( ), I got some Biotene dry mouth, low foam toothpaste from Boots to go with the extra soft toothbrush so trying that three or so times a day. My nurse said no Corsodyl unless I get ulcers…so got it for then.

bacca my onc said i could take an anti-histamine or allergy relief drops ( boots) for itchy eyes but mine soon wore off in a few days.My mouth just used to feel a bit furry as if you’d ate something too hot and then again wore off after a few days and agree with bacca, my dentist said only use corsadyl if you actually get mouth ulcers cos its strong just to use sensitive alcohol free mouthwash.Ive also been taking aspirin 75 mgs 2-3 x weekly ( not every day)xxJulie

That was quick typing jbt ;)! The anti chemo brain aspirin is what I’m working on. Easily accessible…and don’t fancy trying to get Ritalin out of the onc (or taking it tbh). If you’re taking 75mg I’ll go back and find the rec dosage for heart clot prevention…the standard tabs around here are 300s so 1/2 is 150 (see it’s working…lol). More reading…
