Stop feeling guilty, small rant (BENCHLAND) (Part 1)

7th August for Morecambe, J, and some of us are at Travelodge on 6th as well. “Worms” was a deliberate mis-use of … What do you call those thungs we use to communicate… Oh yes, words.
As it happens, I did use to mess around with worms, many moons ago in the course of my Biology studies!!

Happy birthay to me!
Never thought I’d reach 53!
Happy birthday to me-e!
Lazy a**e day for me.

Revcat - I was so sorry to hear your news, thinking of you and her family.
Happy Birthday JCJ! Congratulations on your good news. I also used to mess about with worms, I used to Worm Charm in my Young Farmer days!
Welcome BadBambi, I will be joining you on the benches today, the anti nausea bench would be great - had a bad day yesterday after FEC3 . Feeling cheated as I sailed through FEC2. hey ho.
Jenane, it’s great to see you are still living the train trip - I can’t quite let it go either. Well done for finishing Chemo.
A BBQ sounds like a great idea, gator burgers would be good, as long as we could catch one!
Best wishes all,
Christine x

Happy Birthday to You, Squashed Tomatoes and Stew… hope you are having a nice day, JCJ!
Christine, I hope that nauseous feeling passes off soon.
Thanks for Morecambe dates reminder - I’ll be booking a B&B for the 6th & 7th. I haven’t decided on how to get there yet!

Happy Birthday JCJ and many, many more happy returns.

Thinking of you with hair cut Bambi - hope it has gone OK for you. For me it was gut-wrenchingly awful as I’d always had very long hair. But now two and a half years later I love my short hair - never ever would have guessed that was possible! It’s my eyebrows I miss… !

Lovely sunny day in Glasgow. Living life fully. Just digging a new 'Well of Hope" for anyone who needs some. diggy dig dig…

Rev, why don’t you explore eyebrow tattos? a friend had this done when she lost them due to stress and she’s got the best groomed eyebrows in the village!!! Her hair, eyelashes and (whisper) fluffy bits grew back OK just not her eyebrows
We’ve had sunshine today, so walks with Our Millie who is now on the Knac###d Bench - are dogs allowed on the benches? If not she will cuddle up to the camels on a pile of leaves. HOW did we ever get camels in Benchland - I blame that Ali woman. Could we train them to stamp on alligators and numpties??
Saw my hospital friend from the Bed Across on Friday and she looks really well, recon doing nicely and NO BONE METS cos she had a scan - so pleased for her.
It’s The Voice tonight - I shall be in a Tom Jones daze all evening…
Take care everyone, spring has finally sprung HURRAY

grumpy

Just caught up with The Voice from LAST week! Opera! My word, but those two could sing!
Happy birthday JCJ… not going to out -do the songs, but I do know THREE (genuine) verses for happy birthday! (two additional to the one we all know…)

mmmmm… eyebrow tattoing - really work? I’m with RevCat on this, and miss mine… one was a very odd shape anyway, my head having been sliced open as a teenager, but something’s better than not a lot!

Soddit always sits on my lap on the benches…
friends coming for dinner tonight … they’ll get the meal we prepared last week for other friends (and then discovered that we were due there, half an hour before appointed time!!!) At least tonight is easy!

So sorry you’re feeling ruff Christine - remember it well… hang on in there - half of them done…

Jane xx

Happy Birthday JCJ - hope you’re doing something nice to celebrate.
I’ve had a good day, really quiet, nothing to do but please myself so a good book has been read, cross stitch advanced a little further (another few years and I might finish it!)
Grandaughter popped in before she started work and told me all her troubles about a boy in her life! Made me promise not to tell her mother! It is a storm in a teacup but of course it’s serious to her. I handed out advice which probably won’t be taken but it’s reminded me about being a teenager and how difficult it is. At least she feels that she can confide in me. Just call me Agony Aunt FF!

I have wrangled several alligators into submission and am now BBQ’g them, I think they’re just about ready so who wants one?

I’m there - burgers of Ali… no… camelburgers… no… oh heck, pass another glass…

Here you are Jane. Tomato sauce? Mayonnaise? Rest assured, nothing to do with Ali or camels. Alli(gator) burgers only. Definitley organic as only fed on guilt.
Passing another glass…anyone who doesn’t fancy an alliburger can find vegetarian options, or cake if you want to skip straight to dessert, to the left of the BBQ area.

Bung us an alliburger, FF. MM obviously doesn’t know our prowess at alligator wrangling: “if we can catch one” indeed!!

Felt every minute of my 53 years - and some - today: YD given me her ‘old’ phone as she’s upgraded hers. It wouldn’t work with my sim card, even though she said she’d unlocked it from her provider. I went to the O2 shop to ask for help. Very nice man tested phone with another O2 sim card and said it was because my sim was too old (prob 15 years!!) He said he’d give me a new sim. I asked if I could keep the same number as it’s easy to remember. “Sure,” he replies, “Can you just turn on your old phone for me?” Do you know, I couldn’t for the life of me remember how to turn the da*n thing on, I’ve had it for 5 years and I only had the ‘new’ phone TODAY!! Felt such an eejit, but fortunately he beetled off to get the new card and got waylayed by another customer, which gave me time to come to my senses! Then, horror of horrors when he asked me for my mobile number (you know, the one I wanted to keep because it was so easy to remember?!) My mind went blank and I just looked at him. He must have thought me a right doddery fool! At least it’s working now though

Wow, those gator burgers hit the spot! I’ll have some hote chutney with mine. Yum.
I’ve just swapped my phone and assured the salesperson that I had a sim card, as I waved my old phone at him. However, trying set the phone up in the car home, I discovered that I needed a microsim. So I had to go back to the shop and ask for another one… I used to be very technologically savvy, but then I had teenagers…

Happy birthday JCJ, I’m sorry I missed it! Hope it was fun
So, dinner’s cooking, I can’t do the ironing yet (because it’s still in the washer, oops) so what’s a girl to do other than pour a glass of wine and catch up on here? How are you all? Hello to BadBambi (love that name!) The burgers sound rather nice, is it BBQ weather in Benchland? The camels are fed up with the rain, I’ve packed them off to Australia to visit their relatives and get some sunshine, soggy camel is a most unpleasant smell.
‘worms…’ now I can’t remember all the words, but in the Brownies we used to sing a song about worms. This is as much as I can remember, and please note its all JCJ’s fault for getting her worms mixed up (we use that phrase around here a lot, maybe it’s a midlands thing?) anyway: *clears throat*
“nobody loves me, everybody hates me, I’m going out to eat worms. Short thick slimy ones, long thin gooey ones, lovely lovely lovely worms…” Please tell me I’m not the only one to have sung that (and , saddest of all, remembered it)

Nobody loves me, everybody hates me,
I’m going down the garden to eat worms
Short, fat, squishy ones, long thin wriggly ones
See them squiggle and squirm
Bite their heads off, shlurp all the juice out
Throw their skins away
Oh what fun it is to eat…
Worms three times a day!

That’s the version we used to sing in the Brownies and Guides. Perhaps THAT’s a Midlands thing too?

LOL, we used to sing that too (I was a midlands Brownie) but my dad taught me and he grew up in the North East. Perhaps a Northern thing?

“Singing” whilst getting dinner and realised I got the last bit wrong:
…Throw their skins away
Nobody knows
How fast one grows
On worms three times a day
Isn’t that just mad? I can remember that from *ahem* years ago but I’d struggle to tell you what I did YESTERDAY!! :-[

“bite their heads orf, schlurp all’t juice out” ah yes, it’s all coming back to me

I was a southern Brownie, and I sang it too…

I was never a Brownie but we sang it at school. Wouldn’t have remembered all the words though.

We sang it at school too… slightly different words though…

No body likes me, everybody hates me
Think I’ll go and eat worms
Long thin slimy ones
Short fat fuzzy ones
Gooey, gooey, gooey, gooey worms.
When the long thin slimey ones slip down easily
The short fat fuzzy ones stick -
When the short fat fuzzy ones stick between your teeth
The juice goes shhhhhhhhhlrrrrrrp
Lovely!

That was East Midlands… but was also known in North West in this version…

so, when we’re in our dotages, and in an old people’s home, and the youngsters come in to sing to us, we’ll all ask for the one about WORMS???
he he

have a good week… I hit an unexpected chemo-wall yesterday - after nearly 2 years! Good night’s sleep though, so today should be better…

sun’s shining, which is always a good start…
