Hi Delly! Welcome to Benchland! I thought you needed to visit the shed, for a moment there (lost pottery shed - storage of comestibles (calorie free and suitable for any diet restrictions, of course), marbles and plots for those who have lost them!)
Now I am intrigued and will have to spend a week or two re-reading the whole thread to remind myself what the wipers were to which you refer!
We have done some bonkers things in here but it got us through some tough times together!
I am very confused - seen the chap about my balance/tottering/falling over and came away with stuff to squirt up my NOSE… well at least it wasn’t for anywhere more ‘delicate’.
Ear nose and throat very closely linked, Grumpy, and ear problems often cause balance/tottery problems. Could that be the reason? Or maybe you just need to lay off the glitterberry juice?
Hi Delly, welcome to Benchland, come and sit on the tea and cake bench with me and we’ll have a chinwag!
Also intrigued about the wipers, don’t remember that but then I don’t remember much these days. My memory is rapidly turning into a forgettery! Perhaps JCJ will remind me…
MY house now looks as if I’m moving, there are boxes everywhere waiting to go into the loft. Half of my conservatory and a good part of my sitting room. They will go up tomorrow night, I wouldn’t let SIL do it tonight, I sent him home to daughter who was on her own.
Daughter and I went food shopping today and just as we got back SIL was moving out the disputed wardrobe and taking it to the tip. His “displeasure” at having to get rid of what he wanted to keep was evident. I kept WELL out of the way. I wish we’d been 10 minutes later and he would have been gone. When he returned the atmosphere between them was rather “frosty”. Daughter had offered him two possible compromises over it but he wouldn’t take them…so what else could she do? All back to normal tonight, he’s got over it by being left alone this afternoon. There’s now a clear way to the bathroom and more room in the hallway! Much better.
Lots to do tomorrow, my car being MOT’d, daughter’s Dr. appt., stuff to take to charity shop, more stuff to take to tip and still boxes to unpack. I’d love to collapse on the knackered bench but I haven’t got the time!!!
Comestible = item of food (Oxford English Dictionary)
To get the true depth of our daftness, you need to read from the beginning - or perhaps a couple of pages in. Christmas 2013 was particularly ridiculous, I believe, with our Pantivity on Ice (mixture of pantomime, nativity and Dancing on Ice!) or there was the synchronised swimming/diving extravaganza (after we’d wrangled the alligators from the lake of guilt, and made them into alliburgers, of course!) You read it here first (and let’s face it: NOWHERE else!! )
The ‘potted meat sandwiches’, and ‘LASHINGS of ginger beer,’ were a reference to The Famous Five books we all read in our youth!
We had a plan for a new adventure but unfortunately I have forgotten what it was??? Know it involves lycra, oh now I remember the Chariot Race, wearing togas etc…
Was with some BC friends today and the number of times we couldn’t remember what we were going to say or what we were talking about?? Geez it’s embarrassing but really it’s all ok cause we’re all the same, haha!
Car failed MOT :smileysad: Won’t get it back until tomorrow. Front coil spring on suspension broken. That’ll be these lumpy bumpy country lanes full of potholes then! Not too expensive though thank goodness. Hope I’ll have car back tomorrow.
Daughter’s appt with Dr. went well. I nipped in first and gave a brief explanation then daughter came in and Dr. was really kind and caring. She’s being referred for councelling by Dr. and was given a leaflet to call another councelling service where she can refer herself. (See which one gives her an appt first). Dr then phoned her about 2 hours later with an update and that I call excellent service from a GP! She wouldn’t increase the dose of the meds today said she had to sort of “observe” daughter over the course of a month to see if current dose working. What she actually said was close to " we need to wait a month, so come back in a fortnight, and if you make an appt for next week, we’ll up the dosage then"!!! So we’re going back next week. I reckon we were in there a good 20 minutes or more.
More unpacking after that, got the bathroom sorted out while SIL fixed the immersion heater for the hot water. By 2pm there was quite warm water but I’ve had a text tonight to say that it is not working properly. Oh dear!
School - I’ve got some floor cleaner! AT LONG LAST! However it is just a cleaner not a disinfectant as well. I shall just politely clarify that they wish me to use cleaner and not disinfect anything? I shall see what they say to that.
I had a “quick” look back through the Benchland posts to satisfy my curiosity about the wipers. 4 hours later - nothing I planned to do tonight achieved. And I’ve only got as far as July 2012 - our first panto. It makes addictive reading! So many memories, both hilarious and emotional!!
I’m glad the doc’s appointment went well, FF, and that she was so supportive. I’m sure your daughter will get the help she needs. Pain about the MOT - mine’s due soon too, and I know I have to have the cambelt (no Hudl, not ‘camel’!)done this time too.
I’m on the Very Worried Bench tonight. Sister rushed into A&E over the weekend with suspected heart attack. This happened 2 weeks ago too! Last time, they decided it was part of her GVHD (if that’s right - never can remember acronyms - know it’s similar to, but NOT ADHD!) - the transplanted cells are fighting her cells - a reverse rejection problem, which is not uncommon, or particularly alarming, apparently. This time, they say it’s still not her heart, but she’s been in intensive care unit all day - it seems to be lung and kidney problems. I just had a text from BIL. Feel so helpless!
FF, that is fabulous:smileyhappy:!! How wonderful to have a doc that LISTENS and acts upon things, you must feel soooooooo relieved…and daughter has a doc she trusts, brilliant news.
Aaaah JCJ, hugs flying your way, your poor sister she has come through so much, fingers crossed things calm down for her.
Geez Ali you have solved the disappearing disenfectent mystery, it’s the CAMELS FF!
Delly/Doolally, you seem to be made for this thread:smileyhappy:, big warning Watch out for the alligators and if wandering do not go into or near the “Spider Sanctuary” which is beside the caves.
Agree Ali forum helped sooooooooo much, Benchland will always be close to my heart, it was lovely to come here and laugh non stop at all the capers…for that I will be forever grateful to all that have graced Benchland!
So will raise a glass of the old glitterberry juice to all the friends I have made here, you’re the best!!
Sooooooooooooooooo will now go and sit on the “CSL” bench or the “getting nostalgic and teary” bench!!! hahaha xx
Haha! Our extravaganzas are so realistic, Delly can’t tell the fiction from the fact. Love it!!
New prescription picked up today: Mylan. Never heard of it! (Though do I have a vague recollection of someonenelse mentioning it recently?? Such an overdeveloped forgettery lately!) So another set of potential new SEs. Grrrrr!
Sister still in ICU, but at least they are letting her have her phone now. She’s tweeted a couple of times this afternoon. She is out of immediate danger but making very slow progress. She needs to be moved to the renal unit in Birmingham, apparently, but not while she needs oxygen
Just popped back to see how you’re all doing. VERY pleased to see Benchland still being used, and our original exploits still amusing… what do you mean ‘nutters’? Kept me SANE!! Big wave to all my friends ?
Hi Jane, nice to hear from you. Hope you are well and happy.
JCJ - glad that your sister is a little better. I hope the improvement continues even if it is slow. How worrying for you.
I should have known Hump and Dink were somehow involved at school. Just their idea of a jolly jape.:smileyhappy: Promise you it’s true Delly, I couldn’t make up such a fiasco. However, girls, at the moment I have all that I need (at a cost to me of £1, don’t mind that) but probably fun and games again when next order put in.
Got my car back now so all good, just waiting for the bill to arrive. A guesstimate of about £130? Not bad as it has sailed through the last two tests. Told that it was probably done by hitting a pothole at speed. Easy done when they are filled with rainwater and I don’t realise how deep they are (several times)!
Tomorrow daughter and I are having a “day off” and going to local garden centre to get a pressie for her MIL’s 90th birthday. They have a lovely restaurant there and we have a voucher for breakfast. Buy one get one free. That’s us sorted.
Buy one get one free breakfast was interesting. Edible but much prefer breakfast at Rita’s. Won’t be in a rush to take up that offer again. Daughter got a lovely pressie for the 90th birthday and I bought some artificial plants for my garden. Low maintenance is not an option, I want NO maintenance! Plastic greenery is the way to go :smileyhappy:
Hope your sister is better again today JCJ, even if just a little bit.
Another part bought today for daughter’s immersion heater, SIL knew what problem was after first fix didn’t work and another new part bought today and hopefully fitted tonight. Worktop bought today for their kitchen and collected tonight, sawn to size tomorrow and fitted?? It’s all a “project” but a second hand bit of worktop for £10 will help immensely at the moment.
Sister ever so slightly improved today. She tweeted that she’s had a wash, teeth clean and glasses on which made her feel sooo much better! (First time since the weekend?!)
They have taken her off the oxygen this evening and her levels were staying up, so, hopefully, her lungs are working again. There’s still talk ("all very vague at the moment ") of transferring her to Birmingham, to the renal unit. She’s currently in Worcester Hospital - (lives in Herefordshire). If she does come to Brum, it’ll be a mixed blessing - long way for her OH to come, but not so far for me to visit! She should have been at QE for her weekly follow up appointment today anyway!
I’m off to my bed. Utterly exhausted. Observed lesson (teacher, not me. My turn in couple of weeks :() but I was in supporting her so felt under pressure to " perform ". Kids absolutely vile this afto. Grrrrr! :smileymad:
Hello Jane, lovely to hear from you:smileyhappy:!! Hope you are having a superly, duperly fab holiday!
Who was that naughty schoolgirl who led the others astray, something to do with glitterberry juice, Jane???
Good news that your sister is picking up JCJ, no wonder you’re tired…
FF, That’s funny cause was going to ask you if it was better than Rita’s haha! Think it’s brilliant that SIL can do DIY, makes such a difference, is new house nearer to you??
Off to other town tomorrow about burning mouth syndrome, feel really it’s a waste of time and effort but dentist said she thought I should go, sooooooooo cannot be bothered.
Had GS while ED was at school he’s a non stop eating machine, we have NEVER had a baby in the family that so loves food, the only thing so far he wasn’t too keen on was parsnips, he gets sooooooooo excited and does a shaky arm thing when food is brought near him, makes me laugh:smileyhappy:!! xx
So tired last time I posted - forgot to say “Hi!” To GIJ *waves".
Absolutely kn****** now. Been teaching all day (Y5/6) as supply teacher who was booked was CR*"* yesterday and school decided they’d rather have me! Kids were pretty hideous, but at least I’m having tomorrow afternoon out of class to compensate (if they can get a supply) so it was almost worth it!
Met a couple of friends/ex colleagues at the local garden centre for a cuppa and a catch up after school (which was lucky as it meant I couldn’t stay and do all the marking! ). Said GC had *whispers* Christmas display up!! I had to walk through that bit of the store with my eyes nearly shut Waaay to early to be looking at that stuff! (May have virtually half-inched some sparkly things for decorating Morecambe prom for the chariot racing! How’s your mum coming along with the practising, KTC? Nearly ready yet? Can we book a date?)
Sister has been told it was pleurisy, pericarditis (swelling of muscles around heart) and kidney failure. I like the way she said “was” - seems to imply she’s still improving! :)
Yes Katy, daughter’s new house is closer to me. She was about 10 mins by car and now it’s about 5 mins. She is now within walking distance of GD’s school too, a 20 min. walk round by the road but much shorter across the fields. Sure they will still go by car in bad weather though, and the fields are really only for use in spring/summer. Can’t arrive at school wet and muddy!
Immersion heater part fitted last night and they now have hot water. Yay! The flue pipe for the woodburner however is proving problematical. The woodburner has a 6" outlet flue and the flue pipe that SIL bought s/h is 5". Although he could easily make up a part to join the one to the other…building regs won’t allow it. A new 6" flue? About £1500! Ouch!! However we have discovered that the flue that he bought s/h for £200 he could easily sell again for about £800. They are dependant on halogen heaters at the moment (thank heavens it’s not really cold yet). Once woodburner is going they will be opening windows to cool down. Woodburner also heats the hot water so once it’s up and running they won’t need the immersion heater on, eating the electricity.
Daughter has an appt with a councellor on 19th Oct. The one where she could refer herself. The one the GP tried had a very long waiting list. Whether she will have to go on a waiting list after this initial consultation I don’t know, I hope not. I hope this is the start of the therapy. If there IS a long wait we will go private, GP said she would get us some names (and there’s always Google).
