Glad you’re back safe, FF. I’d just finished saying to OH that I was a bit concerned you hadn’t announced safe arrival home yet. For once, it’s fantastic to be proved wrong!!
I finished my (brilliant) Kindle (other…) book on my way home and am now going to settle down with my Enid Blyton (hahaha tablet changed Blyton to Bottom!!) and my SM mints.
Strewth! Googled (other…) Scarborough news and saw videos of the torrential rain. Indeed, glad we weren’t on that coast!!
Think you need a senior moment mint, KTC, you responded to a DM in Benchland! That’ll confuse everyone.
Reading my Enid “Bottom” book and it’s given me an idea for new Benchland japes: The Thirsty Three and the Mystery of the Vanishing Cakes. This opens the door for a series: just substitute “chips”, “tea”, “fruit (from scones)”, “camels” etc for “Cakes”. It could run and run? Must stock up on ginger beer and ice creams.
Being a (relatively) good girl as eating fish & chips cooked in oven with both mushy AND garden peas. Slightly healthier than usual Friday chip shop treat. I hoovered (well, Henried) my car at long flippin’ last, too (instead of just shaking the mats!) Now, where did I put that halo?
Really missed my Rita breakfast this morning, sorry that I couldn’t do it justice yesterday but the cold sausages went down well at Strensham services.
Started to sort out out the Library (second bedroom/store room) today. That actually means I’ve moved the piles of books on the stairs up to the landing. Tomorrow (maybe) into the room and hopefully onto the shelves.
Shopped for the basics, bread, milk, meat, veg etc. so how did the chocolate peanuts get into the trolley?
Oh dear JCJ , The Thirsty Three and the Vanishing Cakes? It can’t run and run, as we know how it ends… we ate all the cakes and drank all the tea.
I’ll confuse everyone too…any of the four with a slight leaning towards the haunted one!
You may remember that I mentioned that on the road into Morecambe I didn’t know if the speed limit was 30 or 40 and that there was a speed camera.
I found out the limit this morning when the speeding summons arrived!! It IS a 30 mph limit and I was apparently doing 36.! Oops… my first ever speeding fine in 40 odd years of driving. It’s a fair cop, guv, (but they could put up signs!). Morecambe trip slightly more expensive than I thought :smileysad::smileytongue:
Done more sorting out today, everything that belonged upstairs and was downstairs ( books, dry washing, books, odds and ends, more books) is now upstairs. Tomorrow…get the books back on the shelves, paperwork filed and generally tidy up…maybe…could be Monday…or Tuesday… I’ve been to the Library and got more books to read…:smileyhappy:
Expecting family tomorrow so have stocked up on biscuits again.
They are always trying to catch people out:smileyfrustrated:
Had a busy morning, catching up with those “do it later” jobs.
Sat down and was busy munching late breakfast, early lunch, when the phone rang, Auntie and cousin from another city, in town, and could we meet up. So quick rush around and out the door, lovely surprise:smileyhappy:.
Came home and immediately went onto the “zzzz” bench, had an awful sleep last night but think myself lucky as that only happens once in a blue moon would hate it to be a constant like so many others have to suffer. xx
So only a middling fair cop then, the residential area, the street lights made me wonder and really if I wasn’t sure I should have erred on the side of caution! Oh well, I’ll know next year. FYI I went through Lancaster on the way to the M6 going home.
How lovely to have an unexpected visit from family, biscuits were not needed at my house as my visit from family didn’t happen but they may come tomorrow. Will wait and see.
2nd bedroom/storeroom/library thoroughly sorted, cleaned and everything put away. Some items going to go to the tip. So I’m on the smug bench…job well done.
Joining you on the Smug bench, FF. I picked 7lb plums off our tree this morning and turned them into 15 (smallish) jars of jam. We’ll eat some of it, but most of it will be sold for charity.
Half way through the process, I realised the enormous 5Kg bag of sugar had less left in it than I thought, so I had to go down to the village to buy more. An unexpected mile walk!
Also did the ironing, stripped my bed, and made the Sunday roast dinner.
Now on the Smug bench knitting a giraffe.
Whilst waiting for the jam to cook, I fetched a dining chair into the kitchen because I needed to sit down but didn’t want to go into another room in case the jam burnt. I got up to give it a stir and boiling hot jam spat up at me. Burnt my finger so I dived for the sink and the cold tap. Forgot about the chair and kicked it as I turned. Nearly broke my ****** toe! Ouchy! Ouchy! All OK now. No trip to A&E required. Thank goodness.
I’m taking great care of my toes, I know things come in threes!
Family over today, biscuits eaten and crisps, also some of the contents of the dog! I have a dog biscuit barrel that holds goodies for the GC. All GC’s ask what’s in the dog?.. Daughter seems to have a bee in her bonnet about a family holiday in Scotland, in February, with snowy winter sports? Sounds alright…but I had trouble with the noise from 5 GC in the 2 hours they were here…a week of that? No! And fly to Inverness? I swore I would never get on a 'plane again after Menorca. Perhaps it will come to nothing? Exactly how do you politely say, actually I don’t want to spend a week on holiday with you?
Babysitting the 12 and 3 yr old tomorrow while parents go with 23 yr old to her “appointment”. I’ve been informed of other things since MMU5.
I’ve read a book, now catching up on recorded tv. US open on tv too, Blue tennis yay!
FF, I am appalled! You really shouldn’t feed dog biscuits to the GC! Oh. Dog biscuit-barrell not dog-biscuit barrell!
Good luck with the lido tomorrow - hope it all goes smoothly.
I am on the Smug bench again, only I’ve raised it up on stilts, like a tennis umpire’s chair. There’s a permanent halo attached just above head height and a fully integrated sound system that delivers applause and cheering. Why so cocky? I hear you ask: I have ticked THREE (yes, three) things off my holiday to do list today. Cleaned kitchen cupboards. Cleaned oven (didn’t need much as I’m -so far- keeping to my promise to myself to do it regularly) Then I went into town (regretted that decision because it was SO hot! :() and bought curtains for the little bedroom
Tonight I have removed the broken blind that’s been annoying me for YEARS , hemmed up the curtains and fitted them using that pole I bought to temporarily fix the shower leakage problem. BINGO! Pole only £11 and curtains £16 (could have spent nearer £50 on them) so I’ve treated myself to a new duvet cover set that I hope will match the new teal curtains. One day, I might get around to redecorating the room. One day. Maybe. For the moment, the teal looks quite good with the grey walls.
Typing this in HTML not rich text, because it’s playing silly b.s tonight, so I hope the formatting’s not all over the shop!
I’ve nearly eaten all my fudge too. Yum yum. Would have done if I wasn’t also scoffing choccies bought for me by pupils & colleagues! Going to have withdrawal when they’ve all gone!
The girls are camping in mid-Wales this week. So far they’ve had super weather, for once, I hope it holds for them.
Can’t watch the blue tennis - doesn’t seem to be on free TV - listened to the Conta match on radio whilst hemming the curtains.
Curtains fell down this morning! Good job they were only light, so no injuries sustained. Glad I didn’t get the heavier blackout curtains I liked, or it may have been me “blacking out” - as my bed is directly under the window!! Have jammed the rail in a bit tighter. Will see how that works. May have to devise some sort of fixing to hold the rail in place.
Just having a wee snackerel for lunch before getting back to gardening. An estate agent would label our garden “mature” by which you should understand “overgrown”, so I’m hacking back hedges and shrubs! Being good and wearing long sleeved top, trousers, socks and gloves. Ain’t no beasties going to be biting me this time!! Ain’t no Lynn going to get me either!
Who needs an alarm clock? Just fit your curtains up to fall on your head when needed hahaha:smileyhappy:
What’s wrong with you JCJ??? Are you trying to make us feel GUILTY, you and your halo indeed:smileyhappy:
You are really being sooooooooo good!
Yes had to read FF’s post a couple of times dog biscuit barrel for your poor GC hee hee, bad Nana.
Hope things were ok today.
Transport fine, canula c***, had to have a doc come and fit it after numerous attempts. All ok after that, had a sickness tab in middle of treatment and it has worked miracles, woo hoo!
This time am starving had soup, sandwiches and pudding in hos, came home muggatea and biscuit, then tea, another muggatea and caramel slice and am still hungry? xx
Just loving your definition of a bite to eat “a wee snackerel” will adopt that forthwith. I need to do some gardening as well, although mine is a courtyard garden, no flower beds, no grass, just pots and paving and gravel, the weeds still grow. It’s like everything else , one day I’ll be so fed up wih them that I’ll get rid of them.
I can’t claim credit for the phrase, FF; I’ve borrowed it from somewhere - possibly Winnie the Pooh!
Spent most of yesterday doing battle with the vegetation, unearthing a robin’s nest (no longer in use) and a large, very cute mouse in the process. Went to S----------- (rhymes with pain berries) for the big shop and dinner. Finished shopping just before 6, put it in the car, went to go upstairs to café. Sign on wall: Due to unforseen circumstances, cafe closes at 5pm today. Oh no!! Resists inner child’s desire to lie on the floor kicking and screaming. We decided to try the other big supermarket A*** (but not the one that’s an anagram of dial) In order to get there we passed McD, P.E. (no not games lesson: pizzas) C (mostly coffee) and N (chicken) and had to cross dozens of busy roads (well, 4 probably - but one was 4 lanes of traffic!). I don’t do new fangled dining!
Anyway, A***'s menu not as interesting as S*******'s so my inner toddler is still not pacified - (was anticipating having my favourite ham, egg & chips but not an option here :(). We finally decided on lasagne and ordered 2. Sat down with our mugsatea. 20 minutes later, girl arrives with ONE lasagne meal and plonks it in front of me, “Enjoy your meal”, and goes to walk off. “Excuse me! We ordered two!” “No, just one.” “We ordered AND PAID FOR two”. Girl on counter, overhears and agrees (luckily, as we had no receipt) profuse apologies and another 20 minutes later the second meal arrives - preceded by a free mugatea. Fortunately, I had the foresight to pass OH the first plateful, because he eats soooo slowly (always did, but the PD has made him 10X slower!) We actually finished eating at the same time! Imagine if I’d eaten that first one! I’d have lost the will to live waiting, and the frozen stuff would have been a puddle in the boot of the car!!
Raining today so I can’t continue with the wilderness taming. Shame?! Will have to sit here, in my nightie, with a mugatea instead. Gutted.
That sounds like an ordeal, not happy tea out, grrrrrrrrrrrr!
Am soooooooooo tired, amazing how different you feel each time and my feet are superly sore, have not been out at all…but one positive I don’t feel sick hahaha.
You have got to laugh, boo hoo!
Sunshine and showers here.
Quiet night, early bed, tomorrow’s another day :smileyhappy:xx
You would expect to feel the same after every dose., as it’s the same medicine…as you say strange how it’s different. Hope the feet are better tomorrow.
I’ve managed to fall over the hoover extendable stair hose and landed sideways in a heap on said stairs. Have bruised upper arm and shoulder and hip. Can’t move arm above shoulder level. Arnica cream and paracetamol are my best friends at the moment.
Sunshine and showers here too. Watching some brilliant tennis from some of the younger generation that are coming up.
