A funny thing happened at After School Club the other night that I meant to share with you. The children were playing hide and seek and one of the weeny ones asked a bigger boy to shut him in the cupboard (the size of an under-the-counter kitchen cabinet) where, because he is so small, he could curl up on the bottom shelf comfortably with the door shut. Anyway. 5 minutes into the game and a mum arrives:
Me: Who have you come for
Mum: Tyler (name changed)
Me: Ah. I’d better let him out of the cupboard then! (opens cupboard, child emerges, luckily grinning from ear to ear)
I THINK she believed me when I said they were playing hide and seek. I hope so! She did see the funny side and said she’d keep him in a cupboard too!
I don’t know if I’ll be asked to cover again, especially as THE SAME NIGHT another boy locked himself in the loo and I had to rescue him with the aid of a table knife deployed as a screw driver. Again, the parent arrived just as I was emerging from the bathroom area, accompanied by the boy and with the knife in my hand. I did explain. Again, I THINK she believed me!
Child in cupboard, knives, doors etc hahaha, an adventure indeed…
Was sooooooooooo tired yesterday, GS was hard work, lots of play with me etc all day long, perhaps I should have played hide and seek???:smileyvery-happy:
It is freezing here, snow on and off all day, went into town always try to avoid Saturdays but needs must, it was actually quiet, so relieved. Stocked up and ready to go haha.
It’s shoulder length, straight and layered but the next day she was caught in the rain and she was horrified because it went into a mass of curls. When she was small it was curly but longer length made it wavy.
So now she will have to “work” her hair haha.
It’s snowing here, actually lying, oh no, with an icy wind, brrrrrrrrrrrr.
What are we having for dinner tonight JCJ??
Have been on the “CBA” bench for hours, nothing done, will need to move asap, if I can be bothered haha.
Ate a bacon roll this morning, not a usual breakfast but it was yummy, memories of Rita’s…
When I was at nurse during the week, jumping on the scales is part of check up, nurse asked if I wanted to know how much I weighed, I declined, too many creme eggs methinks haha xx
Double cross fingers girls please, for first time canula attempt tomorrow, finding it difficult to stop thinking about it…xx
Dinner is roast pork, apple sauce, roasties, roasted parsnips, roasted beetroot, cabbage, carrots and gravy (I forgot the Yorkshire pudding! NOOOOO! Sack the chef?!) followed by damson & apple crumble and custard. You’re welcome.
Are you snowed in FF? I hear it’s bad down there again? We had blizzards yesterday and it’s been b***** cold today with an inch or 2 of snow lying. The roads look to be clear but it’s going to freeze again overnight - don’t think it got much above freezing all day actually.
I’ll have everything crossed for a hassle free lido tomorrow, Katy. Would swinging your arms about a bit help to get the blood pumping so your veins are easier to locate? Just a thought. I know when I used to give blood (when I still could :() I discovered that a brisk walk just before helped them find a vein and speeded up the blood flow (they often complained my blood was “too slow” otherwise!) May be worth a try? But please don’t do it WHILE they’re trying to get the cannula in. Could be messy? :P Hope all goes well and it does its job quickly. xx
Yep, I’m snowed in yet again :smileysad: Not as much snow as last time. No worries about the conservatory roof yet. Most of the main roads have been passable with care today but it’s going to freeze tonight so that will be ice everywhere tomorrow. I have no idea how cold it is, I’m reading a book sitting next to the radiator with Purdie on my knee!
There might be some more snow tonight so I wait to see what the morning brings. I already know school is closed tomorrow, so a snow day for me. :smileyhappy:
Thank you for dinner JCJ, absolutely delicious as usual. Could I request sprouts? They don’t seem to feature on your menu and I love them! Sorry! Am I being picky? I should just be grateful for what I receive every Sunday.
Fingers and toes crossed for you tomorrow, Katy. Hope it all goes easily and the benefits are enormous.
Hope it went ok, Katy. No more ouchy for a while. X
We had sprouts last week, FF, only I forgot to put up the menu (I was in an a***y mood because you all had lamb shanks and I overheated my turkey so it was dry :(). I’m sure we’ve had sprouts before, because I love them too.
Sunny today but definitely “window weather” because it’s flippin’ freezing outside in the wind. On my route to and from work, there is a permanent puddle in the road - water mains leak I suspect - and on the bush above it there is a forest of 3 - 4 ft long icicles where cars have driven through the puddle and water has splashed up and frozen. Like a fairy grotto! I wanted to take a photo but CBA to turn around and go back. Wish I had now because it will probably be gone by tomorrow.
Thank you for dinner JCJ, yum yum, you can leave the sprouts off of my plate as I really don’t like them, have a honorory one at Xmas and that’s it, haha.
2nd attempt today so fingers crossed worked, hurrah, thank you!!
Head/brain has just started to clear was very foggy today and have a thumpy headache, obviously did not drink enough. Did not swing my arms around either but kept my gloves on as having freezing cold hands makes it more difficult as well.
Gosh that sounds really pretty JCJ.
FF, hope you are doing ok.
Mum decided (not really) to sit on the floor yesterday and could not get up so had to get emergency doc out again, same symptoms as last time but not quite as chronic, so stopping the BP pills have not stopped whatever is going on. Pulse rate was dodgy this time so an ECG is to be arranged asap. We have asked warden to check her every day and they will do so until further notice, worrying indeed.
I enjoyed my snow day yesterday. Today Daughter phoned, said she was going to local supermarket did I need anything? She picked me up and we went together to supermarket also the library and pharmacy which were my places to get to. Nice to see her, I’d gone a little stir crazy after three days indoors!
No snow left in town now but I set off early to school as the more rural areas still have snow. I was a little worried about the state of the lanes but it turned out they were clear but there is still loads of snow in the fields.
Hope you are feeling better today Katy, hope Mum is also ok.
Sounds like a nice day FF, did you get lots of books?
Meant to do bed washing today but couldn’t muster the energy haha, tomorrow is another day.
ED popped in for a while, her appt is Sat, she just wants to go herself, can’t really say anything about it as I am just as stubborn, I want to do it all myself too…xx
Yes, I got loads of books, some new ones, some I’ve read before but will happily re-read! I’m also spending far too much money getting books on my kindl. I still much prefer the feel of an actual book but I’m reading more on the kindl. Books for 99p? Yes, I’ll I have them. Unfortunately when the Kindl says reading time for this book is 3 hours 30 mins I feel compelled to sit down and beat that time.
And I always did easily because I read quickly but now the Kindl is catching up with my reading time and sets the bar higher and now it’s not so easy…this device is beginning to read me? Scary? I need to turn the bl***y thing off and go back to a proper paper book. I refuse to be in a competition with a device! Aaagh!
Weather good, nice and spring like but still snow lying out in the rural areas.
Didn’t get the icicle forest photo because when I got back to it yesterday, on my way to work, although it was still partially there, it had started to melt and the dirt from the road traffic had made it look dingy. No longer a fairy grotto: it looked more like strips of paper strewn in the hedge.
Temperatures gradually rising, most of the snow is gone - just the bits where it had drifted quite deeply are left. Actually saw some sunshine most of today.
Fingers crossed for ED on Saturday, Katy, and make sure you get enough rest to recover from lido! I’m sooo tired tonight. Won’t be long out of my bed tonight either!
Glad you’ve discovered the delights of 99p Kindle books, FF; there are loads of free ones too. Don’t feel you have to compete with the b****y thing though, just enjoy the freedom to carry 100s of books about in one hand and be able to read hands free. I read a real book recently and got frustrated that not only did I have to hold the pages open so I couldn’t knit, (or eat my soup for lunch!) I also had to hunt for a bookmark!! I always used to say I loved the feel of a real book too much to give them up, but I’m a complete convert now. So much less clutter too. However, I discovered a down side this week: saw Jack Dee’s book advertised at 99p. Bought it and accidentally clicked “delete from library” instead of “deliver to default devise” as they were next to each other in the drop down menu and I was using my silly small phone. The only way to retrieve it is to buy it again! What? I know it’s only 99p, but that’s outrageous! I bought it already! Grrrr!
Beat the machine FF, hahaha, funny how things play in your head, would prob try and do the same thing hee hee.
Glad you are enjoying the reading machine.
Enjoy your swim tonight JCJ, it’s freezing here so wrap up well.
Had a lovely walk with GS today, at the very end we passed a bakery shop, GS picked a cake and totally devoured it in seconds, his small face was a delight, as was the cake obviously… Arrived home and he had 2 sandwiches in quick succession, hungry boy.
Am still pretty tired, amazing how different the lido is each time??? but feet are much improved woo hoo.
Don’t buy GC easter eggs so a couple of days ago received a text from well known store, have picked my slot time for sale, thought may get a bargain easter gift, not to be as by the time I start looking most of stuff has gone, bit of a con really and superly annoying, grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Remember was saying it’s basically impossible to arrange appt with docs, well they are going online soooooooo we will be able to book appts ourselves, woo hoo, maybe??? xx
No. I was exaggerating! I can’t compete with it, I can only read at my speed :smileyhappy: I just found I could always beat the time to read (and was perhaps a little bit smug!) but I do find it interesting that the time is getting shorter. Obviously the kindl is registering the time I tap to change pages and is adjusting. I just find it a little bit disconcerting that this small device seems to be watching me…Big Brother??
Always said I’d never get one but now I am converted, so easy to slip into handbag just in case there’s a need to kill a few minutes.
There is still snow around down here in spite of the temperature climb, reminds me of a saying of my FIL’s which I can’t quite remember but it was something like “old snow is waiting for new snow”. White Easter?
Exhibition of the chidren’s art tonight at school. Parents, children, teachers, governers, villagers all over the place. I did the best I could and left early, there was just no point. Senior teacher agreed so that was ok.
Glad your feet are feeling better Katy. Hope you had a cake too.
Thank goodness it’s Friday! This seems to have been a very long week!
Went to the chippy as usual tonight and I was so hungry - or, let’s face it, greedy! - that I ate a lot of them before I even got home and now have a burnt finger. Serves me right?!
Hope ED’s appointment goes ok tomorrow and she gets some answers.
Dinner is - or was - roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, roasties, smashed roots, roasted onion, cabbage, sprouts ('specially for FF) and gravy followed by apple strudel (supermarket’s best frozen variety) and ice cream/frozen yoghurt.
Sorry, KTC, but it’s been lovely and warm here today. I pruned the roses and the hydrangea, out in the garden, with no coat on and didn’t even feel cold! Temperature plummeting again tonight though. Of course, by Thursday, when we break up for Easter, the weather will be arctic again, I’m sure.
Spent hours this evening trying to find a cottage to stay in for 2 weeks in August. Don’t want to travel as far as we did last year - not worth OH’s stress! - so I’m looking at Wales. Considering that up until last year we always spent 2 weeks in a tent… In a field… the ‘must have’ list for a cottage is ridiculous. And of course we’ve left it very late so most places are already booked for one or both of the weeks we want .Grrrr Last year’s amazing place will take some living up to. Ho hum.
Thank you for my dinner JCJ, just delicious and the sprouts were so lovely.
Lovely spring day here today all family met at Daughter’s, we were all outside in the garden, chatting in the sunshine until teatime called us in. No new date set for catio building, I was hopeful for the Easter weekend but Son has to work and the weather forecast is…
Four more days to work and then holidays. Yay, so looking forward to days off.
Sunshine but no warmth here, would def need my forty fleeces!
Have you booked anywhere yet JCJ?
Thank you for the hugs, much needed.
Mum went to the shop around the corner yesterday and ended up on the ground, ambulance called, I didn’t know anything about it until today, no injuries apart from a bump on the head. She told paramedics she didn’t want me called. My head is spinning, phoned docs and they informed me there are no heart issues (in a round about manner, patient confidentiality) so I told them what I think is going on so doc will be able to ask the right questions, something needs to be sorted and because she is soooooooooo stubborn it’s difficult.
Next phone call from friend who said she has had a heart attack, stent inserted, will see her next week.
Am sinking…
Went for my muggachoc today, you usually have a complementary small biscuit to accompany drink, cutbacks mean you now have to ask for that tiny biscuit, really?? xx
You are not sinking, there are loads of people here to hold you up. :smileyhappy:
Perhaps try asking your Mum to allow you to access her medical records? SIL has access to his Mum’s as she’s said he can. So now he knows what’s going on with her medically. Laws may be different where you are.
Can I be nosy and ask how old is Mum? Feel free not to answer!
Tiny biscuit cutbacks, whatever next? A muggach…?
No standing about chatting in gardens today, a lot colder but still dry and sunny. Met office forecast says no white Easter for us but that could change, who knows?
