Glad you’re there safe. I’ve been checking Benchland every 5 minutes since 8 o’clock. :)
Have a restful night. My train arrival time now changed to 14:02 so I’ve now got a 40 minute wait at Lancaster. I have a sandwich and some fruit from Sains****'s. I guess that’s when I’ll eat that!
See you soon. Can’t wait.
Gutted we won’t be seeing you, FF - or the promised Purdie photos!
Glad you’ve arrived safely Katy. My mistake was being pigheaded enough to think that I could act as usual and it’s backfired on me big time! Perhaps if I’d taken action some months ago, instead of sticking my head in the sand :smileysad:
Fair warning though girls, next date for MMU will need to be a week earlier, in the teens rather than the twenties. Also I will do as you do Katy and travel on the Monday by train.
Have a lovely time, get out your unbrellas the forecast is not great. Give my best wishes to Grumpy.
Covered some miles along the prom these last 2 days - in between the showers. Boosted Norecambe tea sales considerably! I have a camel misbehaving in my bag!
Oh no, no, no, FF don’t crawl up the M.way - makes *my* knees scream just thinking about that! I like your idea of going by train on the Monday so you can rest and enjoy the next day, like Katy does (as opposed to “What Katy Does” or even “What Katy Does Next”?! :)) However, as I said to Katy, you will have to ignore each other so you CAN rest and recover; otherwise you’re just starting MMU a day earlier! .The train takes longer but at least you can relax a bit more than when you are driving?
I’m struggling to get back into it. Hence still sitting here in my dressing gown with a coffee. Washing machine is on. Blue glass collection is back on the landing window sill, but that’s as far as I’ve got in my great long list of jobs to do today!
Hope you are not having to run around too much today, KTC, so you can recover from your coastal hikes! xx
So am I, can’t get off the “CBA” bench…such bad behaviour!
Think the more I have to do the “lazier” I feel:smileyfrustrated:
Well, well, was home for around 10 mins yesterday and had just opened all the windows when a fly flew in, utterly detest flies and go a bit crazy trying to get rid, soooooooooooo decided to swat it, missed fly but think i may have broken my finger hahaha. It is treble it’s normal size, a little hot and painful. Will ask chemist when I go into town, can kill two birds with one stone tonight if it is, visit Mum then off to A&E:smileyvery-happy:
It’s tiring thinking about it so will have to sit a little longer xx
You might get lucky and be seen more quickly with it being Bank Holiday, and people busy doing other stuff? I don’t know what A&E’s are like in your part of UK x
Oh good grief, Katy, what are you like? Even if it’s broken though they’ll probably only strap it to your other fingers rather than put a cast on.
You know what I call flies - that’s even more appropriate now?!
Had a spurt of activity: 4 loads of washing done - drying on airer because it started to rain just as I went to peg out the first lot. Intermittent showers and sunshine ever since; cleaned bathroom; defrosted and cleaned freezer; simultaneously copied 4 audio CDs for YD (I make a compilation CD every year, for the car, for our little camping trip and she likes them so much she wants copies for her car for her commute to work :))
In a while, I’ll walk up and fetch my prescription, post the CDs and get my Friday chippies (will studiously ignore the fact that I’ve had chips twice this week already!) Having a little rest on the CBA bench first tho’.
Hello paulas:smileyhappy: unfortunately it’s not a bank holiday here…so there were 10 people in front of me and emergency admissions…but was taken after around an hour waiting so not too bad, 3 xrays later confirmed broken finger!! So finger taped, must admit was scared to bits about Lynn going into my fingers, prob more worried about that than the broken finger, everyone elses fingers crossed please. Am firmly placed on the “what a twit” bench.
Made it up to see Mum before visiting finished so was pleased about that.
Gosh you did loads JCJ and all in one day, shows what a trip to the seaside can do:smileyhappy:
Sun is shining today, we have had heavy showers since I arrived home, yuck!
Got the book JCJ, 3rd charity shop, woo hoo so started reading last night xx
10 people in front of you …and emergencies…and you only waited an hour? That’s amazing :smileyhappy:
Sorry you have a broken finger, hope the fly died a painful death. Recommend you get a cat, any fly that comes into my house now gets chased, caught and eaten by Purdie. Wasps and bees are left strictly alone, How does she know? I will cross all my fingers that the fly will not cause more problems re Lynn.
Hope Mum is doing well.
JCJ, what do you call flies? You have been busy indeed. A rest on the CBA bench is a good idea. Chips eaten in Norecambe do not count.
It’s got quite a colder here today and the forecast for tomorrow is rain, rain, and more rain. Typical Bank Holiday weather.
There were a lot of flies in the cottage in Wales, and loads of them persistently bothered me, especially the first night I used the hot tub - buzzing in my face then falling in the water. I’d scoop out the “dead” bodies and the da** things would miraculously resuscitate. The process would repeat. I started swearing at them. Two word phrase ending in “off”. After a few days swatting at them and swearing, I joked with OH that it was a good job there were no small children around or they would assume flies were called "f*** off"s! Me? Foul mouthed?
I thought the same as FF, Katy, an hour in A&E? You did well there!
Cleaned the oven yesterday too - didn’t need much because I’m still sticking to my promise to do it regularly (and using teflon shelf liners). Got my chips. Went to sit on a bench to eat them. Rain!! Had to stand under a tree and scoff them!
Today, I’ve not been quite so productive, but I have cut the lawn edge (hands and knees - ouchy- with an old kitchen knife) and uncovered the path again. That job has been on my “holiday to do” list for the last 3 holidays so I’m glad I’ve finally got around to it - between the showers. Lots of rain forecast for tomorrow.
Fingers crossed that Lyn stays away, Katy. Get a fly swatter so you won’t be tempted to break any more fingers.
Hope you enjoy the book after all that effort to find it!
Dinner is baked ham, roasties, Yorkshire pudding, broccoli, cabbage, peas and my newly invented ham gravy, followed by bread and butter pudding and ice cream.
I’ve been slaving away all afternoon making spiced Bramley apple chutney to use up some of the apples from our tree. We have hundreds this year!! The whole house stinks of boiling vinegar despite me having the extractor on, the door shut and the window open!
I think we’ll be giving a lot of apples away!! There’s a limit to the amount of room in the freezer - and to the amount of time I want to spend prepping them!!
When I was on an exchange many moons ago in France, lady of the house made a choc bread pudding, was the most delicious thing I had ever tasted, did get recipe and was made at home, but it disappeared…so if anyone knows how to make this…
You are being superly busy JCJ, in fact it’s making me tired just reading about your escapades:smileyhappy:, no really it’s fab when you do get all those “I’ll do it later jobs”, done.
Well non stop rain here today, luckily no venturing out for me, hurrah. Have been catching up with paperwork, bit difficult with broken finger:smileyvery-happy:
Unexpected invitation to a family dinner out at a Carvery today. Daughter and Son decided to book this meal and each had presumed that the other had told me. No, they hadn’t! Fortunately they spoke to each other this morning and realised I didn’t know. I got a phone call from Daughter…“.we’re going out to dinner, get ready, I’m picking you up in 15 minutes”.
Aaargh, that’s the fastest I’ve ever got washed, changed, made up and ready to go out.
Lovely meal, great company and then back to Son’s to have cups of tea and lots of conversation. Also to look at their newly decorated kitchen and living room. DIL has a talent for interior design and both rooms now look like a show home. I’m taking a little bit of credit as I taught them how to hang wallpaper!
Weather has been dreadful today, persistent rain and cold enough that I didn’t care that it was still August, I put the heating on this morning.
It chucked it down all day yesterday but there was only one short, light shower today. Another busy day: we got some men in to move a massive old TV from front bedroom (ES acquired it years ago when his then GF’s father wanted rid of it. ES nearly gave himself a heart attack and hernia carrying it upstairs, so we weren’t going to attempt to move it!) They put it in the car so we could take it to the recycling place (got the men there to take it out.) OH has had a clear out in the garage so we took a load of stuff for recycling and to the Age Concern shop there. Whilst there, I spotted some blue glass for my collection - get rid of some clutter, gain some more?!
Then I spent the afternoon doing jobs in the garden before cooking bangers, cheesy mash, gravy and veg for dinner (*proper* bangers - none of that vegi rubbish! :)) I have just stripped out the old sealant from around the bath because the shower is leaking into the garage. Got to pluck up the courage to reseal it tomorrow. Not my forte! May have to resort to the second shower curtain again!!
Opticians appointment tomorrow to see if the pesky cataract is any worse. We’ll probably treat ourselves to lunch in town.
Gradually ticking off those “holiday to do” jobs. Can’t believe we’ll be back at work this time next week. Where did that time go?!
Woohoo! First time cannula. This is becoming a habit? Hope the lido does its stuff with minimum ickiness! Hope tomorrow’s meeting is productive and not too stressful!
The ‘men’ were a company that advertised a disposal service in a local advertising magazine that we have delivered free. The other ‘men’ were council employees at the tip!
Resealed the bath this morning, so hopefully the water won’t run down into the garage when I use the shower. Quite impressed with myself! - and with ES who actually responded to my text with a long reply full of instructions!
Opticians appointment this afternoon. Prescription virtually unchanged. Slight macular damage which is only marginally worse than last time, but she wants to see me annually now to monitor it. This MAY be caused by Tapoxyfen or it COULD just be my age! :smileyfrustrated: She showed me the photos of inside my eyes, taken both this time and two years ago. I nearly had heart failure because the right one this time had a massive black area in the middle!! Arghhh! When I asked she said “Oh, that’s just a shadow” and pointed to a teeny silvery spot that was the “damage”. Phew!! Nothing to worry about re cataract either, because it’s no worse than 4 years ago. Hurrah! No reason to stop taking Tamoxifen, but she says we’ll monitor it closely.
New glasses not needed and had voucher for free eye test, so I came out with nothing to pay! Woohoo! Can treat myself to some new clothes with the money saved! Wandered around a few shops and realised I CBA. Bought some knickers (packing for 2 weeks holiday made me realise the dire state of my pant situation!!) a hot pork & stuffing bap and a mugatea and came home! The last of the big spenders?!
Henrying (as opposed to hoovering! :)) done. OH got dinner - he’s either forgotten his ar*ey request, or he’s decided the holiday is over!!
