We’re here. Lovely pub lunch on the way. Windy while we were putting the tent up and a few spots of rain after. It’s COLD! I’m wondering why I packed vest tops and shorts! ?
YD has forgotten both her raincoat and her washbag so we’ll be shopping tomorrow!
Oh no, hope you managed shopping and weather is better but good you enjoyed pub lunch, hurrah.
Have a fab time rain or shine.
Last leg of train journey helper was there to meet me and insisted walking me to where the taxi would be, we came out of station and there is a very steep hill put brakes on chariot and turned to thank the man arrrgh chariot took off down the hill and crashed onto main road with me hobbling running after it so lucky no cars whew. Everything was just too easy hahaha…
Poured with rain here the whole day, yuck.
YD had bought an enormous suitcase which leaves no room in car so we will have to get a big taxi, phoning around tomorrow xx
Hope you got that enormous taxi and your YD manages to transport the oversize suitcase!
My YD decided against spending £40+ on another raincoat…having recently bought one!..as it’s not particularly cold so she’s risked getting wet. A flannel, toothbrush and paste purchased and she’s sharing my soap and shampoo. It’s only 4 days. ?
It’s been showery today: we had to scramble inside from the terrace overlooking the reservoir whilst lunching at a restaurant. It rained a couple of times during our walk but we managed to shelter under trees. It absolutely threw it down just as we arrived back at the tent so we just stayed in the car until it stopped. Cold, damp and grey now and more heavy rain forecast overnight. Definitely camping weather! ? Sunny day forecast for tomorrow ??
We’re having a good time anyway and It’s been lovely to walk faster than a geriatric snail and still have company. ?
Glad you are still having a good time despite, remember you said it always rained or was horrible weather when you did camp? You have been lucky last few times? OH doing ok?
Large people carrier haha all booked.
We are just faffing around just now be all go later. We can do it xx
Assistance was fabulous plane was late leaving so we eventually arrived at around 2 this morning.
We were given goodie bags and then up to room. Not the room we booked oh no it’s lovely but smaller than the apartment we booked so YD is going to view one later but it’s further away and not as pretty. I saw this morning think I would rather stay where we are.
Glad you have arrived safely. A pain about the room but I hope it’ll be fine and you enjoy staying there. ?
We are at my house. Tent down wet with a broken pole. YD on the FF bench as the tent is nearly new and this is the 2nd repair! They’re away in it on Monday so she’s frantically trying to source a replacement pole section, online, for next day delivery. ?
Yesterday was a lovely day: sunny and breezy and we had a super picnic and walk in the hills with a pub meal in the evening. Last night was SOO cold ?. We slept using all the blankets (that it seemed daft packing in a heatwave!) and half our clothes. Heavy drizzle all morning with heavier rain forecast so we just packed up wet. Tent will now be even heavier to schlepp on the train.
YD is tired because the new airbed I bought, to replace the bulgy one - probably on its last legs - was too narrow and uncomfortable so she’s not slept well for 4 nights. ?
Camping! Such fun?
Might be our last trip, anyway, as GD starts school in September and they’ll struggle to cope with childcare in the school holidays as it is, without her swanning off with me for 5 days!! ?
Aah well, you had good times apart from weather and at least you managed some time together, glad OH is fine. So annoying about tent pole hopefully she has new one today. Where are they off to?
We have stayed in room, it’s really nice so it’s all ok. Have been around the pool today then after dinner we went to a very busy part of the resort GS was a little overwhelmed so we just waited until he had calmed down wasn’t anything bad thank goodness it was overwhelming for me too haha. Avoiding that area again…xx
When do you get back, Katy? Hope you are having/had a great time and the journey back goes/went smoothly ??
YD managed to find, online, a replacement pole section. It was in stock in an Outdoor shop in Norwich so she sent a photo to her OH who went and got it - checking via WhatsApp (photo showing GD holding it in front of her for scale!) that it was the right one. Isn’t t’Internet a wonderful thing?! Tent mended. Phew!
They’re off today. Camping near Cromer, so not too far from home, until the weekend. YD has gone down with a cold so she was struggling with the simultaneous packing and childcare yesterday. Not helped by their only loo being blocked, late on Saturday, and being ripped off by a dodgy “local emergency plumber” who turned out to NOT be local, and charged a £150 cancellation fee when they managed to fix it themselves. ??
On Saturday, DIL abseiled down a tall building in Norwich in aid of the charity she works for. Rather her than me! ? I just donated some £s ?
Well, I’ve managed to make myself stop reading the old posts on here. After countless hours, I got to page 180something (this page is no. 1) just after we were planning MMU1, in February 2013. I’ve read - and sniggered, chuckled, guffawed - through the Pantivity, the Icetraveganza, Whodunnit and Benchland Olympics. Some of my own posts refer to events, in the real world, that I’d completely forgotten so it’s like reading an hilarious book combined with my (and everyone else’s) personal diary. Addictive, uplifting reading. I’m proud of us. It’s also a lovely memory of all those no longer with us, either because they’ve escaped to Nedland or otherwise ?
Need to get off this CBA bench and finish cutting the enormous privet hedge before lunch and swimming.
PS forgot to say: I really struggle with crowded places too. Never liked them but age, retirement, Covid have made me even more averse to them! Couldn’t even WATCH Glastonbury on the tele!! ?
Sounds like you’re having a good time. I’m sure it would be too hot for me!
OH rang Dr’s on Monday evening as he’s had a blocked ear for ages and Earex (other…) isn’t shifting it. Appointment at 8:45am today with paramedic who’s booked him in with the nurse tomorrow to have it “irrigated”. Ew!!
While I was taxiing him up there, I though I may as well go in and try to make an appointment for me about this suspect carpel tunnel, in my left hand, which is not getting any better. Expecting to be offered an appointment 3 weeks next Wednesday, I was absolutely stunned when the receptionist said, “Can you come back at 12?”
Walked back up for 12. Lovely paramedic listened to all my symptoms and has booked me in with Dr on 18th (same day as car MOT and service, which will be fun: won’t be staying in town for a leisurely breakfast then?! ?) She’s arranged it with the Dr that can do cortisone injections in case that is what is needed. ? She has also booked me in with the physio - at our surgery, not at the hospital, Yay! - to investigate whether the problem in my neck is related or something else. This will be just after we get back from holiday. She says she will probably make a carpel tunnel referral just in case surgery is required, to get me in the queue. It’s all happened very quickly and I feel a bit shell shocked!
I’ve finished cutting the hedge - well, as much as I can reach. I’m hoping next door’s son/son in law/gardener will do the top as it’s not so high from their side. ??
Lots of baby birds in the garden ? and loads of blackcurrants picked and put in the freezer/boxed to give away. Time will tell whether I CBA to make jam!
I’ve been mostly on the tennis bench and will be for the next 2 weeks.
Oh my goodness that’s a fab service. What’s happening with your neck?
If you do need surgery you know what to expect?
Where are you off to with OH? I can’t remember?
We have now graduated to the big pool officially, GS is wearing a swim vest and is loving it he’s so happy doesn’t want to leave. Disco last night with ear defenders he had fun there too, have been successful every night with dinner don’t want to jinx it…
A mystery invisible post. It gets weirder! Just arrived for knitting at the usual time but back in the library and there’s nobody here! I’m never first. Feeling like I’m in a parallel universe.
We were typing at the same time so my last post looks like I’ve completely lost the plot! (What’s new?! ?)
After all our moaning about how difficult it is to get an appointment, I’m well impressed with this new system at our Drs surgery. Lovely paramedic triages everyone and arranges referral or appointment with appropriate person freeing up the Drs to do the stuff that actually NEEDS a Dr.
Paramedic rang me today to say she’s talked it over with the Drs and they want to send me for the electric diagnostic test to see if it is carpal tunnel before doing the injection. Appointment on 18th cancelled and will be rearranged after, if necessary. I’ll get a letter, but I don’t yet know where I’ll have to go for it.
Hurrah! That means I can have a nice relaxing breakfast while the car’s at the garage and won’t have to get back quickly on the bus to be stabbed! Phew.
I think the neck thing is possibly osteoporosis. Someone muttered something about early signs of that at one of my various scans/X-ray. Every so often, my neck clicks and locks. It’s quite uncomfortable until it clicks back, usually pretty quickly. Also, if I fall asleep on my back, I can’t move my neck when I wake up. It’s a bit scary. When I had carpal tunnel in my right hand - 25 years ago!! - I was sent for neck x-rays to check if there was a (trapped nerve?) problem there that was causing my symptoms; hence me mentioning it to the paramedic this time.
Your GS is coping really well with all the new experiences and challenges. That’s such a good thing to build his confidence before he starts school next month. Glad you’re having a good time. Try and stay cool ?
The girls are back from their camping holiday with a dry, undamaged tent despite having all kinds of weather thrown at them from hail to gales, torrential rain and scorching heat. All in 5 days! But they’ve had some good times and it’s all making family memories. ?
Just finishing a complicated cotton baby blanket for an ex colleague who has her first baby in August. I made it for GD and said “never again” but it’s not QUITE so tricky this time.
Also knitting squares - all different patterns but the same colour - for another blanket to sell for charity. Both bkankets using free “wool” via Freecycle and a K&N friend.
We’ll be in a chalet on a small park (right next to an enormous one ?) almost on the beach. Hope it’s as good as it looks?. Last year’s caravan will take some beating!
And it’s finished. There are several mistakes but, hopefully, only I can see them… and I’m giving it away so they won’t torment me! ?
All knitted in one go so very complicated looong rows but no sewing up!
Sewing Group is on Tuesday - my first proper one. I think I’m going to make a new outfit for GD’s teddy. That’ll be a talking point! ? Not sure I can concentrate enough to do my counted cross stitch and meet new people at the same time.
