Howdie Hampshire Gals,
four of us (Kirsti, Valia, Sarah et moi) enjoyed a nice sunny afternoon in Winchester. We thought it would be a good idea to plan a meet up the last week of each month, the arranger can pick the day. thought it would keep the flow going and ensure that if someone misses a date another will be coming up. I am away at the end of June so Valia will post a date and location.
Anne I hope your treatment is moving forward - hope to hear from you when you feel able.
So watch this space and enjpy the sun.
Cheers fo now - Jacquixx
It was a lovely afternoon indeed. Lovely to see you again Jacqui and Kristi and great to meet you Sarah.
Jacqui, good luck with your scan results. Hope you managed that litre of water ok
Will post the next day and place soon.
Take care girls and enjoy the sun

hi ladies
Sorry I missed out on the May meet up. I had a late oncology appt on the Thurs, and I wasnât sure up to then what would be going on with my treatment, its a long story! However everything went as OK as it could so it meant I was definitely off, with my husband, the next morning to collect my daughter, from Paris! Unlike beanbob it wasnât a holiday, just getting her back home after spending 3 years at university out there and another 9 months in her first job. I had meant to write a post on here but time just disappeared. Will look out for the next meet up and I hope to be able to join you.
Well done to all those with recent good news and I hope everyone elseâs treatment is working well.

Hello
Well paris seems to be the place to go at the moment. I hope âas well as can be expectedâ is not bad news Nicky.
I had the result of my CT scan an as I thought the news was not brilliant. The umours in my Left lung have grown and one is beginning to obstruct the air way and a new one has popped up in my right lung. The ONC suggested I have some chemo - Capetamin however as I am reasonably asymtomatic he is willing to let me leave it for a couple of months - this will give my a chance to get work sorted and have my holiday on the IOW. On the plus side the bone mets are stable.
My main thought is oh b*//r.
Hope to see some of you folks in August.
Bon soir Jacqui x
Hi Jacqi,
Sorry to hear about the results of your scans. It is good you take your time to sort out your life and not panick.
Sending you all my love

Hello Hampshire girls.
Next meeting will be on Monday 2nd of July. It will be in Winchester in a lovely cafe called ginger for two.
I went in today and I asked the lovely owner if we could book a table for our group and also asked for free drinks (tea and coffee). The lovely lady (her name is Jane) was very generous and said that she will happily accomodate our meeting and she will provide our tea for free
Keep the date in your diaries. Monday the 2nd of July at 2pm.
Looking forward to see you all there.

Hello Ladies, I am just doing a quick update for Anne - she is sorry she hasnât been in touch but things have been, let us say, a little difficult of late!
We had a phone call from JulieD the other day as she was wondering how things were going.
Anne as you probably remember went on steroids for the swelling round her brain tumours, these sent her hyper and so she ended up in macmillan at christchurch for a fortnight while they found a balance with the steroids and pain relief. Eventually they took her of morphine and changed her to oxycontin. Being in there and the fantastic way the staff looked after her has allayed a lot of her fears of the place. She had also seen a psychiatrst as she was strugging with severe depression and he had sugested a change of anti-depressants to seroxat which had worked well for her previously. the changeover made her feel suicidal and she decided (with the gpâs blessing) to up her anti anxiety meds to higher levels. This worked up to a point but eventually on friday/saturday last week the dose was so high that it induced what the paramedics and CPN called âa paradoxical effectâ in that she went hyper manic and was having tremours and spasms and sky high anxiety together with more suicidal feelings.
The upshot was that they gave her 2 haloperidal injuections that knocked her socks off and she slept for nearly 36 hours apart for waking for food drink and the loo.
On Monday her benzoâs were reduced dramatically to a level that will stop her going into massive withdrawal, but still help her with the anxiety.
Today the depression seems to be finally lifting a bit and it is the first day for ages that she hasnât woken up feeling depressed.
She is still anxious, but that is because tomorrow we travel down to plymouth so that she can finally have her stereotactic radio surgery on her brain tumours!!
She knows that the day is going to be long and not very pleasent, but is happy that having waited since january something is being done.
I have read through the previous posts and we are very sad to hear of all the setbacks others have been having and wish everyone lots of love luck and hope and hopefully you will all get back on track.
we will be travelling back from plymouth on friday and we will update you on how things have gone and maybe Anne will make it to the next meet-up.
Best wishes
Danny and Anne
sorry it posted twice
Hello Danny and Anne
thankyou so much for posting - you have been in our thoughts Anne. Depression and anxiety is an awful condition to deal with. Cancer is hard enough to cope with , with out this added burden. it must be a real relief to finally get the stereotactic radiotherapy - I know that you where so worried about having whole head rads.
Once you feel up to it do PM your contact phone and perhaps we can organise the odd visit for a chat an cup of tea to keep you going until you a well enough to go out.
Please take a big cyberhug - Jacqui xxx
Iâm hoping to be at the next meet on 1 July (thanks Valia for organising). Feeling quite buoyant after my WLE 2 days ago. Best wishes to Anne for the trip to Plymouth.

Well lady luck conspired to kick us in the teeth yet again.
We went to plymouth and Anne had the frame screwed to her head at about 8.30am she then had a CT scan and the radiologists spent the day working out the plan for the machine. At 5.30 in the evening we were taken to the radiology department after a very tiring and quite painful day for Anne. We were told that it might be another 20 mins before they started because they had to check the plan on the machine. An hour later Anne was taken in and bolted to the table. about half an hour later they asked me to go in to see anne as she was anxious. They then told us that there was a problem with the machine and that they were tring to fix it. About 20 mins later they still had problems and Anne was unbolted and we then went to the waiting room again while theygot all sorts of engineers physisists and random people to look at it. By this time Anne was really strugling with anxiety. After about an hour and a half they still hadnât fixed it and Anne couldnât stand it any longer and asked them t remove the frame. We came home on Friday and now we have to wait for them to decide what happens next. They apparently got the thing fixed at about 9.30. I was told that it was an issue with the interface between computer and machine and that it is a known issue that sometimes happens on ordinary radio therapy to.
We are devastated that after waiting 6 months for this treatment and now Anne is mentally and physically drained.
I will let you know when we hear anything
Regards Danny
Anne & Danny, Iâm speechless, but it sounds like Anne did very well to tolerate it for as long as she did. Hope you get another appointment soon and wish Anne well in building herself back up for it.

So sorry to hear about the mess up with the radiotherapy Danny. What a terrible time you both had. You and Anne must be feeling so frustrated and let down by the whole system at the moment. Coping with mets is doable when everything is ticking along ok but when the mechanics let us down then everything becomes a mountain and life becomes that much harder to deal with. As good as the NHS is in many respects, it also lets us down very badly in other situations.
I sincerely hope that things are sorted out for Anne soon and that she is able to have her radio in the near future. Could she be treated at a London hospital instead?
Please give my best wishes to Anne and let her know that all the Hampshire gals are thinking of her and wishing her well.
Love to you both. Liz x
Hi Hamphire Ladies
i have not been posting much at the moment as I am having such problems with my treatment for my secondaries and also trying to regulate my heart medication. So frustrating but I hope to speak with a specialist cardiologist this week to see whatâs the best way forward. Having said that I had some good results in the week of shrinkage with the liver mets, despite not being on the optimum treatment, and a clear brain scan so a little breathing space for me until my next round of appointments.
So sorry to hear from Danny about all of the problems that Anne had last week, how frustrating - to say the least. I really hope the appointment can be re scheduled and it goes smoothly this time, I canât even begin to understand how stressful and anxious this must be for you both.
i would love to be at the next meeting arranged for Mon 2nd but donât think I will be able to get there. I will keep you posted if I can make it.
good luck to everyone and their various treatments, not an easy time for some of us.
Nicky x
Just giving you all an update ahead of seeing you on the 1st. Results from WLE showed one margin not clear, so Iâm going back under the knife on the 2nd to have a bit more taken out.
I know itâs debatable whether itâs worthwhile, but given my secondaries virtually disappeared in chemo & itâs a simple op, I figure I may as well give myself the best chance of avoiding further spread⊠Sarah
Just a quick update, we are off to plymouth tomorrow so that anne can have a face mask made, then a CT scan. Then back again next wednesday for the treatment. They have assured us that the stereotactic treatment will be exactly as before but with the mask instead of the frame (next frame appointment slot is in August because they need a surgeon to fit it, this way they can do it straight away).
Will update again when I can.
God luck and thoughts to all those having issues again at thre moment xxx
(And everyne else too)
