Surgery scares

Thank you, tbh my fear is over riding everything at present. I probably need to speak to the surgeon about the steps… What kind of things have people asked? Xx

A helpful tip is to think about all the questions you want to ask before your appointment- write them down and take it in with you.

You say your surgeon has recommended a mastectomy - have they discussed reconstruction options or remaining flat with you and how you feel about these options?

From personal experience, I didn’t find the single mastectomy nearly as traumatic as I thought and I made a quick recovery. I opted for a skin sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction with an implant but your surgeon will discuss what they feel is most appropriate to you.

Hope this helps a little and please feel free to ask me anything else - don’t struggle alone with your thoughts x.

Thank you so much. The challenge is that with ibc they can’t immediately reconstruct & it’s this that’s really getting to me along with the fact that I don’t currently have enough fat on my stomach to use for the reccomended path…

I hope you get more clarity and answers soon sbee and begin to find a treatment plan that’s right for you x

Thank you, sadly they told me that there’s no alternative

I have a small cup size so just went for wide strap vests to reduce impact on the breast /lymph scar areas. Just a gown for the first couple of days in hospital, helps when trying to get to the loo in time when one of your arms doesn’t work properly… I didn’t need my dignity anway… ;). Once home just very loose fitting PJ shorts so you can pull them down with one hand. Once you are going out you will have both hands back to avoid any issues with speed and agility.

Hi Tiamaria, just wanted to check in and see how you’re doing a few weeks down the line. Recovering well I’m hoping xx

Hi Motherducky. Lovely to hear from you. I’m
Ok thanks. Just sore in different places! My new boob and under arm is sore from the biopsy. Tummy area still delicate. I’ve been very tired the last 3 days. Have read the healing process does that to you so hopefully it’s a good thing.

I’m managing 7000 step walks (slowly!) but not a lot else. I have to remind myself it’s only 2.5 weeks so still a bit of a way to go.

Hospital are happy with everything and I got my pathology results which were better than expected and now no radiotherapy needed and hopefully no chemo. Just awaiting oncotype test results on 19/8.

Hope you are ok. When do you go in again? x
