Taste buds haywire

That’s our new name! Booby Bonkers??

I must say before I went into work I was slightly nervous even though not everyone knows. I was even worried about facing the chefs! I just seemed to put of my comfort zone and I’m usually so outgoing and funny!
I didn’t wear my wig as the hat I have usually covers my hair anyway and the wig is quite warm on.

CherryB, you are right, the first thing anyone notices usually is my hair as I’ve had it different all of the time depending where I’m going or what theme event I have on at work.
But I guess it’s a small price to pay as its part of our treatment and it shows rhat the drugs are helping us delete any unwanted bits in our body!

When the chemo drugs were going through the line at first I felt a little bitter towards them as they were going to give me side effects but then I realised that they are our ally so I started to talk to them and asked them to go easy on me whilst they are doing their job! Very strange I am!

So every side effect I have I convince myself that’s the next step to recovery.

My customers said to me that they can’t believe how calm and smiley I was all day! I answered it’s because I’m on the way to recovery and if I do feel down I just won’t come out…so you won’t see me sad.

Chaffinch…I need a bobbly hat too! Thank goodness its winter and people wont suspect anything! Not that Im bothered but I jyst cant be bothered talking about it sometimes! I was just chuckling to myself about your 2 little moles! People draw them on to look sexy! I rhink I might just so that and one on my cheek too! Cheeky!

Having a wig and hats sorted means you are in control…and being in control does help.xx

I have had a bit of a wobble tonight. My daughter said mum i dont want you to have this treatment so i said ‘ok I’ll leave it then’ and she said oh no mum youve got to have it!! I would love life to be normal again!! I am getting on, just being ‘me’ but will i still be ‘me’ after all this? Sorry just having a moment xx

I’ve had the same thought, I hope that I will still be me on the other side of this or at lest a recognizable version of me. My dad had chemo & rads earlier this year and he is still struggling although he is 75 but was previously very fit and active. He is not keen on his new normal right now. I feel like I am awaiting sentencing at times. I am pretty positive most of the time but struggling hormonally at the moment a month after surgery and having my Mirena coil removed so that’s not helping. Hubby has had a down day today too. Our son went back to uni 400 miles away yesterday and our youngest starts uni next Sunday so if is a big period of change for us along with rapidly ailing elderly parents. Sorry whinge over just needed to let it out. A new week in the morning, wishing us all a good night.

She is 12 Helena and doesnt want to tell her friends - although she has told her best friend! My kids friends are always here and i drop them to school too. That will change for a bit though. I have been really positive with my children. I have reassured them but also told them that the treatment may make me tired etc and that i may not be able to go to everything for a while. My husband is great too. My mum , who has alzheimers, also lives with us but getting lots of help and support from family with this. I suppose it is just the journeying into the unknown at the moment. Thanks for listening and for being there xx

Sending a hug to you Chaffinch. We can do this xx

I went to sleep about 10 so missed a lot but it’s 4.30 and I am awake catching up.
I am sure hair loss affects us all differently and at the moment it’s not high on my agenda because I am shaving with my sister for brave the shave and we have over a thousand pound in sponsors however I am sure when the time comes I will find it somewhat upsetting. When I said to my hubby about wearing bandanas at home rather than wig all the time he said you put up with my shaved head for years why would your lack of hair be any different he is trying to say and do the right thing but he does not get that it’s NOT the same x

Wow ck 5 hours in work you did well x
Jen good luck at school today

Pain has woke me but meeting bc nurses at 9.30 for drain snd wound check I didn’t realise this 2nd op would be so much tougher

Michelle how did you get on when you went for check sorry if I have missed on another thread xx

Hope all goes well with wound check this morning. My surgeon seemed surprised when I said I was relieved not to be having more surgery, they don’t see the recovery! Sending you gentle hugs.

Thanks will be back on later hopefully drain free x

Hope all healing well SueW
It’s strange when we don’t come on for a day, it feels like I’ve missed all you lovely ladies and probably likewise too!

Well, day 8 after first chemo and I’m having Shepherds Pie for brekkie! Totally messed up meal times, eating whatever when I need to! Rather like my naps! I was eating at 1am in the morning too!!!

Jencat, go easy at work today.xx

Chaffinch and SueW
Your hubbys are trying to say and do the right thing…but it’s difficult for them too.xx

I 've put a hold on my date and my ex has been showing support but I’ve told him to be careful as he can’t let his woman know. Anyway, that’s for him to deal with, not me!!! I need to think about myself and get all the support I need.xxx

Drain still in but dressings changed and wounds bathed got to go back again Wednesday.
Ck defineltly take support where you can and let your ex worry about his new relationship xx

I am SueW
Time to rhink about me now! How’s the wound?x

Said wounds healing nicely I said this was much more painful nurse said it’s because 2nd op only 4 weeks after first and wouldn’t have fully healed from that yet so it will have heightened all the nerve endings again x

Jencat how was school today? Cb

Sorry pressed post to soon was about to type ck how was your day

How everyone else too ? X

Evening lovelies

Glad you’re all doing ok, just nipping on to quickly say hello. Am in Domestic Goddess mode, cleaning the fridge and scrubbing the kitchen and bathroom so everywhere is sparkling clean and pristine for my soon to be feeble immune system. Anything else I need to sort out urgently before my imminent chemo?? Haven’t got my Murray mints yet!!! ? I also don’t really like Shepherd’s pie so need to find a similar comfort food equivalent… ? Hard to know what I’ll feel like though. Just read an excerpt from Victoria Derbyshire’s chemo diary in The Times. I found her YouTube videos quite comforting but her written word makes it sound far more brutal than I’m hoping xx

Whilst your in goddess mode my floor needs mopping lol x
Once my drain is out next step onco appointment must admit I am a little anxious as it is a whole new area of confusion to look forward too x

Jen glad you had a good day plenty of rest tonight ready for tomorrow x

CherryB
You might not like Shepherds pie now bit you might during chemo. I never are it b4 and now had it 3 days in a row! You will know what you fancy or dont at the time and just find a way of getting it!
Hope you’ve got pink feathery Marigolds!

Hi SueW
Had a lovely morning at Maggie’s and then rested after Tai Chi class which tired me out. Glad wound healing well!
