well meaning (but annoying!) things people say!!

Ninja that is absolutely appalling! I would definately write in to complain as this is a terrible was for a credit controller to behave, and certainly would not be condoned in the company I work for (although not a parking company!). I sure they would want to know and make sure this doesn’t happen again.

Thanks, guys. I know the name of the parking company cos they invoice me.
I’m a contractor, not NHS staff, based in an NHS department.
My HR is effing useless and over 200 miles away so they won’t support me. Hell, I haven’t even had a ‘get well’ card…

Oh Ninja, what a horrible experience.
You shouldn’t have to deal with this on your own - it’s bigger than that.
You do need to put the details in writing, in an unemotional, factual way, but definitely saying how it made you feel.
Do you belong to a Union? Otherwise hand it over to your Line Manager or Occ. Health.
You are covered by the Equal Opps Act and she was out of order - aside from the financial aspect. She should not behave like that with anyone, let alone someone in your situation.
Please let us know how you get on. Good luck

Oh poo !!!

No occy health, no union, and my LM is sh*te. I haven’t heard from him since I went off in April for chemo. NOT ONE WORD. He’s not local either and he wouldn’t consider it any of his business.
I, (and my assistants, who I treat like my extended family) are very much on our own.

What an utter utter utter B*tch!!! You know, normally I’d never wish this kind of thing on anyone but I’m sure some exceptions can be made.

Horrible horrible c*w, tell me where their office is  Picking on my mate and upsetting her!

Bummer Ninja,
The Equality and Human Rights Commission has a great website.
There is a Helpline where you can speak to a real person!
They give great advice.

equalityhumanrights.com

You may already know about them.
I used to advise disabled people on employment issues and many of my customers had practical, positive advice from them.
Sometimes at times like this you feel you haven’t got the mental or physical stamina to stand up for yourself, but there is help available.
People like that thoughtless woman should not be able to get away with her behaviour. Sounds as though your employers are not much better - silence and no support is not acceptable either.

Ninja- that is outrageous! That women deserves to be publicly hauled over the coals (pref still glowing). Write that letter, she can’t be allowed to behave like that.

You need to send letters Ninja … or get someone to do it for you… and send them registered delivery to the Chief Exec … and a copy to the local paper… I’m very good at letters if you need help… message me. Chin up girl xxx

Ninja, I am sitting her fuming after reading this. I will bloody phone them up and complain on your behalf if you want!!! God I am furious, write to the local newspaper, they would just love to hear a story about someone with cancer being treated like this in an “NHS” car park!! Its ironic, that of all places its an NHS car park that is doing that. I know contractors will run it, but they should have some bloody empathy.

xxx

It’s not an NHS car park - there is no space for staff; the NHS car park has its own facebook page; it’s that difficult to get in.

I have to park in a commercial par park but lots of the hospital staff have to do the same so we get an NHS discount

I dont care who owns or runs the car park, she had no right to spesk to you in that matter when you explained your situation. The newspapers would have a field day. Besides which you hadn’t used it … you were ill … do you have a contract … what does that say … do you have to cancel? Even so, I agree, when you have cancer you tend to overlook so many things because you have other priorities. And rightly so and she should have understood that and been more compassionate.

Oh, I know, telling me that “she didn’t need this”

WTF? I didn’t need blo*dy cancer! never mind being spoken to like that when I hadn’t lost my rag, I’d only cried FFS.

I do not have a contract - nothing in writing other than the invoices each quarter that don’t say “you need to give a month’s notice”, they just say “Car park ops” then the amount to pay.

I still feel too upset to phone them up - I’d just get the horrible woman again and I’m welling up again just thinking about it.

Forget about it for now Ninja… that woman will get her come uppance!

How is the lynch mob / posse coming along? Can it be diverted to her desk?

I’m saddled up too! Jobsworth or what! Letter - then you don’t have to face the woman… and if Angilav can write it for you, maybe that would help… take any offers of help… too much to handle at the moment! Have a hug! Bother- fell of me hoss!

perhaps when you have calmed down a bit you could ring back and ask to speak to her supervisor, tell them how insensative she was.

I’m calm - I just cry so easily since my Dx that I just know that I wouldn’t be able to handle this. I’m usually so good at this sort of thing - I have to deal with some VERY awkward things at work so I know that I can be very firm and fair - or I was…not any more. especially when I have to discuss my Dx.

looks like i will have to saddle up and join the posse then

i’m exactly the same Ninja - especially a week or so after Dexies - the slightest thing has me welling up and turning into a blubbering wreck. It does make you want to avoid personal contact where you might lose control - so the letter thing is a really good idea.

As you well know, it also ramps up the stakes and make them take your complaint seriously.

Accept all offers - letters, posse, horses - and I’m sure we can find some dogs as well!
