Got to the end of the week and still feel OK… a little bit of work over the weekend (well, home visit today to plan a funeral and taking service in a local church tomorrow that needs a little preparation todoay) but apart from that, nothing… about to walk the dog. Perhaps I should get dressed first?

Floppy flutterbies don’t sound good! I admire those of you with the courage to go for a recon. I’ve not even been offered one! (not that I’m bothered about that)…

Hope you all have a flitting weekend, flitting from one gorgeous thing to another, as true butterflies…

Ami xx

What a great mother’s day for you Doz…that’s what its all about…This Wednesday I go for my prosthesis fitting so don’t know how I feel about that really? Am taking a friend along for her honest opinion… she says she doesn’t want me to come back looking like Jordan!!My daughter’s coming back next week from uni and so can’t wait to see her…

I’m having some problems with hypersensitivity over operation site and was wondering if any of you have had the same and if so what has helped?

Elsa I have a partial prosthesis and its really comfortable .Have a few friends with full prosthesis and if you didn’t know they had one you would never know.Only thing is they are freezing cold in the mornings so I usually warm mine in hot water.Don’t know what you can do about sensitivity but its early days for you and hopefully will lessen as the weeks go by.

Elsa,
the mastectomy site will be sensitive for a while. The best thing to do is massage it gently with some Bio oil or Aloe vera gel. You have to massage the area so that the scar does not harden. Once this area has settled you will be able to get a contact prothesis which are amazing and you can wear any bra you want with them.

For the time being you will be offered a prothesis that fits into a pocket in your bra. the hospital may customise your own bra for you or you can get a mastectomy bra. If you have had a mx you are VAT exempt! I have small boobs or should I say boob 32B so I have tshirst bras from British Home stores and I but my own pocket in and if not wearing my contact I just wear my softie in the pocket.

Tips for fitting. Take a tight fitting tshirt with you so you can see your shape better in the mirror. I had a nightmare with my fitting, my then breast care nurse was not the best and kept giving me the wrong size. To cut a long story short I rang the manufactures and asked what size I should have, and now know one can tell, and when I dance it moves with me ( the contact one).

Well good luck with your fitting, its not going to be a nice day, just take your time.
xx

thanks for your comments, I think my breast care nurse is new to the job so don’t know how Wednesday is going to pan out! It’s good to hear that you are able to wear any bra you like…Has your scar softened over time…I’m massaging mine every day and at the moment am using rose oil.

I was wondering about cold mornings and wearing my prosthesis so thanks for that tip. Doesn’t bear thinking about…brrr!

Hi Elsa
It is understandable you have sesitivity, it takes a long time to heal properly. About my prosthesis. I went to the hospital for an appointment and whilst there mentioned about coming for my prosthesis fitting. They fitted me there and then. With the help of the BC nurse I tried different shapes and sizes until one felt right. I didn’t have a tight top on so the nurse held it tight from behind and we looked in a full length mirror. Neither of us could tell the difference when finished and I have a largish bust. The whole thing didn’t take long and I had no problems as there is something for all shapes. Now I have to actually remember I’m different to before all this, until I undress, that is!! So don’t worry about your appointment, flutterby, it’s just like trying anything else on.
