I have heard that there are different brands of Tamoxifen, some seeem to be better re side effects than others, am I right?
If so which make/brand should I try to get hold of as I am due to start next week and wondered if I can get my chemist to obtain the best type…any advice welcome
Hugs Suze xx
Hi suze,Some people have different side effects depending on which brand they use,I think its something to do with the bulking agent.I have had quite a few different brands and have the same side effects whatever one I take.I dont think you can choose which brand you have,(maybe wrong though).Good luck and
Wishing you all the best. Melxx
Hi Suzi
I had Wockhardt to begin with and they made me feel sick. I looked into it and saw that APS were supposed to be better so have switched to them. I was lucky that my pharmacist has said he will get them in for me in the future. Spoke to my onc and he said the same it’s the bulking agents they put in. Unfortunately Nolvadex the original makers don’t make it any more.
Hope that helps

Hi
Thank you Mel and Jayne for your advice…sorry Mel that’s what I meant (different brands i just worded it wrongly), I know some have said they coped on some brands better than others. I didn’t know it was down to the bulking agents so thanks for that… now I need to find a pharmacy which will order the brand that I want to order.
MANY THANKS AGAIN

HI Sue,
I too was on APS Tamox and found them much better for me SEs wise, like everyone says it is the bulking agents which cause most of the different SEs, different brands suit different people so sometimes its a bit trial and error untill you find the one which is best for you, most chemists buy in whatever is cheapest that week i was told , but if you ask your onc/GP to state a particular brand on the scripts then the pharmacy has to get it in and supply it for you, My onc did this when i first started Tamox and i always got the APS brand after that.
Hope this helps.
All the best

Hi sue, tamoxifen time, yeehaa! That means the Chemo is over!!! My chemist gave me aps, seems ok ish so far touch wood not tempting fate. If you want that and your chemist won’t stock it then you can always pop over here to get it from my local chemist and then we can go for cupcakes.

Alternatively of course if that’s the one you want, and your local chemist do stock it, you could then come over here to check that the boxes are the same colour… And then we could go for cupcakes!
Linda. Vickie,
thank you both…seems aps is favourite. Thanks for the vote!
Vickie…may give the tamoxifen a slip and cut straight to the cupcakes regime of surpressal lol
Thanks suze xx
Hi
I found the wockhardt suited me a bit better than the APS, and also tried taking it at a different time of day until I found the best time for me.
Thank you cup of tea… I think it may be trial and error then to see which brand suits me best and good to know about trying different times of the day also
Thanks again Suze x
I found uk generics brand gave me less intestinal side effects, and now pharmacy order this for me
thank you chris, it’s good to get a nimber of opinions from 1st hand angle. Much appreciated
Sue
Hi, i stick to APS,i always use the same pharmacy as they got it on record that i want that brand. ask your pharmacist once you find a brand that suits you and they will order it for you.
angela.
ive always had wockhart and as someone else picked up my prescription this time i got APS. Ive itched all over for 3 weeks!! Assume this brand does not suit me!
Back to Wockhart for me
S
I was on wockhart and after a few months the flushes etc settled down, the sleepless nights went and I was pretty much ok.
I had 4 months on that and then went back to the same pharmacy and was given Generics (UK) brand, in a green casing. Not sure if it is coincidence, as although I am feeling fine physically, I am a bit tearful and feel quite emotional.
Has anyone else experienced this on Generics? It has been two weeks.
Hi all you ladies - I picked up my prescription last week (two in fact as they seem to have got ahead of themselves!). Checked the opened the bags and found one box marked “Mixed Brands”. Inside were pills from 3 different companies. Shall be able to do my own drugs trial !! Not sure if I want to try them as the Wockhart one seems ok no major problems although have terrible joint pain.
Think I will take them back to Boots as not suitable.

Hi,
It’s APS that works for me…have a look at the thread that i have just bumped up re allergic reactions to E454 in Tamoxifen…

how do you go about trying different brands? if i ask my pharmacist at the dr and they agree to let me try a different brand, how long do i try it for and would they then not be well annoyed if i said i wanted to go back on the origional
i feel pretty rubbish most of the time but im worried if i change i will set off a bunch of all new s e that i dont want to go through again lol
thanks for your comments. I ended up with APS. My pharmacist only stocked wockhardt but got APS for me when I requested it.
So far nothing drastic to report, a few disturbed nights, a few minor flushes but so far so good.
Sue
Gretchen i have just had a month of generics and ive itched and cried all month. I felt really hormonal and a bit hysterical at times!
There is definatly something in different brands.
