Hi
Just wondering if anyone has bought a wig online? Will be needing a new one and there are so many sites I don’t know which to choose, or whether to pay a bit more and go to the shop in town! S’pose its difficult if it arrives and not the colour you want?! Anyway any recommendations would be welcome.
Thanks

Hi Smiler
I just recieved my wig this morning that I bought on ebay for £30. It is a gorgeous colour and overall a nice wig. I’m also getting an nhs one fitted tomorrow so I can let you know if there is much difference between those two. Ive not kept my wig on yet though and am still wandering round the house in my beanie.Going to order a few headscarfs too- Ive actually been quite enjoying not having my hair swishing round my face

If you want the ebay site I can pm you it if you want. It was ostrich that suggested it to me and it seems to be a good one.
Hi
Thanks Cat, that sounds great and like the sound of the customer service you received. I’ll have a look at the site later. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Thanks for taking the time to reply Yvonne, hadnt thought of ebay, will search on there. Just fancied a change again, but expensive time with 3 boys, so £30 sounds a lot better than the prices in town! Good luck with the fitting tomorrow.

I got my wig from e-bay and lost count of the times I was complimented on my hair. Not even my friend {who didnt know I was on chemo }realised that it wasn’t my own hair.It was sent over from America and came with stand etc.was real hair and cost £40…The best £40 I’ve ever spent!
That sounds a great deal Josyemarie! Really pleased I posted on here, hadn’t thought of ebay for wigs! Did you buy from an independant seller or shop?

It may be extravagent - but as I have always thought my hair was my best feature and will sad to lose it - I’ve ordered a bespoke one made of real hair. But given some I’ve seen in shops - the £400 I am paying looks like good value - it is the lace cap system - which looks natural and is breathable. The hair is virgin Indian and is really soft. The one I’ve ordered is 25inches. The company I am using is called celebrity hair uk - and they come out to you and show samples and take measurements etc. Bright x
Hi
I got my wig from the NHS they are giving me 2, the one i have been wearing, nobody realised it wasnt my own hair, so its been great. Anyone living in the Glasgow area, I highly recomend Extra Hair on sauchiehall st, the girls there have been fab!.

What style wig looked the most natural amdacc - I think I have to pick one on Friday. I have naturally blonde curly hair and have always fancied a pageboy, but then anybody who knows me would know something was up! Don’t ask me why, but I still can’t feel the urge to shout it from the rooftops?
P.S. Could people pm me the names of the decent websites please? I had a quick look on e-bay, and all that came up were ones from Asia for about £12! Think I deserve a little better than that!
This is the site for the expensive wig I bought. Someone comes out to you, and take your measurements and have lots of samples of hair to chose from. They do all lengths, and you can opt for different densities i.e. if you want a lot of hair in your wig, to something sleeker. It is also possible to choose the degree of curl. The front part is really natural. Mine is arriving on 28 December (they take 3 weeks to make and deliver) - and the examples the lady showed me (Marsha) looked really convincing. Mine cost £390 but that was 30 extra for fast service, and was almost the longest one they do. Shorter styles are much less.
Also just bought a synthetic wig on e-bay for about £40. It looks bearable, but shall keep you informed once it arrives, hopefully in a few days time from the US.

Forgot to say the custom made wig is for all ethnicities - even though ladies on home page are all minority ethnics.
My wig from ebay was the best £30 I ever spent (I even have a spare for any “wig” emergencies), my NHS one is consigned to a box as its horrid. I have recommended the site to others, I think Yvonne got hers from there and I think she likes it. They don’t look that brill on the site but I did extensive - “does this look like a wig” testing and not one comment. Lots of people (including drunk ones at xmas dos) have said how great my hair looks and I know that people who know I am having chemo have had arguments with others over whether I have in fact lost my hair or not when they see me out in my wig.
If you want me to PM you the name of the seller then let me know. The wigs are from the UK not Asia and USA.
Just a thought too, human hair wigs are very HIGH maintenance. Artificial ones, good ones, look fab and you just rinse them in the sink and leave them to dry. Getting ready to go out is easy peesy. Just pop on and go.
Hi Ostrich,
would love know the seller you bought from on ebay, I looked on ebay but didn’t know where to start! Like you I’m impressed with the wigs I’ve had so far and love the low maintenance! Been long blond, short crop& longer at front, and now layered dark shoulder length! I have bought one but no sign of hair growing yet so may need another, I really would like to grow my hair as long as poss under the wig, hence the reason why I’ve gone darker and shoulder length as my hair grew back after first chemo and it was almost black which was a shock as I’ve been blond Highlighted for many years and naturally auburn colour!
Thanks to everyone for replies

Hi smiler
I did get an NHS wig but didn’t feel comfortable or confident in it so bought one from ebay and it was awful. Ended up getting one online from Contrast Wigs. It was about £70 but with a lace/monofilament crown and have absolutely loved it. I bought in July and have worn it every day since. It’s so comfortable and realistic, it’s even got three different coloured steaks. The girl in my local shop asked me where I’d got my streaks done! My ‘real’ hair was short blonde with streaks and I went for a similar coloured bob. It’s so easy to look after - just swish it round in a little water with some washing up liquid, rinse and drip dry. My hair is growing again now (about half to an inch) but I think I’ll still wear it afterwards when I have a bad hair day.
Have a look. I really can recommend them.

mal, I’ve just been looking at contrast wigs, it’s great! I’ve been looking at medium length and there’s 3 or 4 that I love the look of. Thanx so much for the recommendation.

Glad to help smiler.
As I said I can recommend them. Very quick delivery and they will replace if you don’t like the colour or whatever. I’ve been so pleased with mine, if I’d stuck with the NHS wig I think I would have become a recluse!
Take care
Mal
Hi jacqnotyetinthebox
I got a synthetic NHS wig, I opted for something as close to my own hair as possible, I have had so many people tell me it looks like my own hair so Im pretty happy with it. Extra hair sat me down and let me try on a lot of different wigs in various colours. My hair was below my sholders, with a slight kink to it and a fringe.
Good luck in finding one

Hi: Just read thru this and it is interesting where you girls got your wigs. I’ve got two - both under the label of Raquel Welch - both deep auburn with streaks and monofilaments. The first short one i had from the NHS (was about £200) the second I bought from Headcovers site in US and was on offer at about 90. My hairdresser has trimmed, shaped and thinned them - they are far too full to be real - and I have been wearing them since June. Have finished the chemo now - yipeeeeeeee! - and my own hair is coming back but like on of you it is black. However, I was born with black curly hair so thought this would happen.
In the Sunday Times this week there was a piece about wigs and said the biggest UK supplied was Trendsco. Anybody heard of them? Might take a look on their website and see. Will also look at e-bay again but when I did earlier couldn’t see anything.
Human hair wigs are high maintenance, very heavy and expensive. My hairdresser said not to touch them.
One of my girlfriends can’t wait for me to get hair as she wants the longer wig as it looks so good.
Recently had my new hair trimmed up - there were still long straggly bits of pre-chemo hair - and when I put the wig back on, said I think I prefer me with very short hair. So eventually may go Judy Dench and keep it really short. Will have to buy hats to keep my ears warm though.
Looking good through all this is soooooo important - even going bald you still need to feel good about yourself. MInd you, I am the type that puts her face on to take the dog for a walk!! But at 61 you have to do everything you can.
Chins up girls and all have a great Christmas.
Julia
