I’ve just read back through this whole thread and am appalled! Sandra and Nigela, please please please insist on further investigations. You should not have to put up with such casual, incomplete treatment. Really cross on your behalf
Hi Sass
Was there any rash to be seen? I do not have a rash-just thsi itchy feeling. The very middle looks like a pin has gone thru it. Wonder if I am just looking for things really.
Nigela x
Nigela, it began with itchiness which progressed to bleeding and then to a rash.
How long did it take the itchiness to progress to the bleeding stage?
Nigela x
Hard to remember now, but probably six months or so. Clearly, everyone is different, and you must do whatever feels right for you. I just know that, for me, a biopsy would be the only thing to set my mind at rest.

It is uncanny that the 3 of us have similar sympyoms and checks and we have doubts about the mammograms and ultra sounds if weve been lucky to get one, but it’s dificult getting anyone to listen.
I felt a fool when i saw my GP last week when she told me the thickening around the nipple was normal, but it looks like orange peel, its how the muscles reacts around the nipple she said, so we believe them and go away and try not to worry BUT it’s still there nagging away and you’ve still got the symptoms etc and it stop’s you going back.
Sassie i’m really sorry your partner is going through bc and i hope she isn’t suffering too much with all her treatment, i really do feel for every woman who has to go through it and having a fight with the doctors etc who don’t listen we know our own body’s. xx

Thinking of you all. Partner’s mastectomy booked for the 22nd of this month. Be glad to get it over with!
Hi Sassie
Thanks for your advice about getting furthe investigations, I’ve often wondered how people have said mammos etc were clear but they still got a diagnosis. It really is about hopefully getting peace of mind or treatment started if needed.
Wishing your partner and you well - supporting someone thru must bring its own problems!
Thanks for taking the time when you’ve got your own problems - think it highlights how lovely and supportive the people on this site are and how valuable it is.
And Kim I thought the fact that the 3 of us are going thru the same kind of sympoms and doubts quite uncanny - never found this when I’ve visited the site before!
All the Best

Hi All
Must admit I cannot stop looking at my breast and thinking alot of the time the middle dos look poked in-just the very middle of the nipple. I just don’t feel that I can go back to GP again and say I wanted an ultra sound really to put my mind at rest. I still feel the tender bit in my neck also.
Gp said last time that she would laugh if I went back after an ok mamo! so it is back to fingers crossed time again! will wait till year up then go for a bupa check-however apparently I was told that once I turn 50 they are only allowed to give you one every two years! how crazy is that-when I have ben checked 12 to 18 months fo years by them cos i have the benign breast disease! to suddenly go less cos I am older! Gov have decided it!
Nigela x
It’s so frustrating with the doctors etc how dare they say they’ll laugh after a clear mammogram, i think that is disgusting and how they make us feel.
I asked if ive been discharged and she said yes so i’ll have to wait 4 years 4 mths till i’m 50 and then your not going to be seen because it depends on your areas check up times.
Nigella what is your benign condition ? just wondered with your regulary mammo’s, do you have them privately yourself or the nhs ?
My GP said they don’t like giving them to much because of exposing the body to too much radiation because it can cause cancer aswell, so it’s like banging your head against the wall.

Hi Kim
Well about 17 years ago after going to the GP for about a year or more-so if it had been anything serious then-it would have been too alte! I was told the pains I had in my left breast were just down to lifting a heavy baby! Used to get awful pains under arm pit too-it didnt do alot for me thinking i had something bad whilst looking after my young son! However they would not send me to the clinic so I got a breast check apt with bupa-as I was just in early 30s then they don’t do a mamo-but when they examined me and realised just how lumpy i was and the pain-they got me in for one-paid a bit extra. used to cost around a hundred then now its closer to 200. You can get a female health check with them too-this includes smear and mamo for over 40s. They recommended redoing the mamo every 12 to 18 months so I asked my Gp if this was excessive and them just wanting the money and she actually said "no in an ideal world they would check people after 40 even but its all down to cost-that is why it cuts off at 70-tho you can request one. I know I wonder too if I have done more damage having them-but they reckon it is low dose. I now been told have to wait 2 years! I will lie if I have too-but was going to have the nhs one each time it came around and bupa in between-however having had the one the nhs did in our local hospital-it was so old-she was cranking it up by hand-no word of a lie-she had to alter the compression by hand-the bupa machine is so quick and relativley painless! so i will carry on going for those i think and ignore the nhs-as you say a friend of mine was over 53 by the time she was called for her first one. Our place here missed loads of women who should have been called back for needle biopsies-16 now have advanced cancer-it is disgusting. I have been told that bupa get them checked twice by two different consultants. I will wait another 12 months I think and then get a bupa one done-I would say do thsi. They are in al main cities-I use the blackpool one as it is so friendly and quick-nice Doctor there too-lady.
All the best Kim

Hi Nigela
I agree with Kim, I think it’s disgusting for any professional medical person to say they will laugh at you about this - don’t they realise how worrying it is to have this hanging over you?
Just a thought - do BUPA offer Ultrasounds or MRIs?
I’m with you Kim, I really don’t feel I could go back to GP (possibly would if I had a definite lump but not sure) - which is wrong I know, but I feel like a time waster, correction they’ve made me feel like a time waster.
I don’t know if its because it is a new (one stop) clinic but there’s a feedback form on their website, I’d started to fill it in (didn’t read too good for them!) til I got to the section asking about diagnosis (weight loss?)- but as soon as I can I’m going to fill it in and maybe write a letter of complaint - we’re lead to believe that the changes going on are a possible cancer symptom and deserve to have full examinations/tests and if they don’t know I’m not satisfied they can’t rectify anything - that’s the theory anyway - probably be ignored!
Best wishes
Sandra X
Hi Sandra not sure if they do offer this- I expect if they think there is a problem they refer you back to your Gp-as they asked me to do!(thinking they will get the ultra sound arranged) then got that attitude! you just daren’t go back to the doctors! I think you can even get a GP appointment with a bupa doctor for about £70.00 then they refer you on if they think you need it.
